Prospect Watch - Scouting the Bowl Games

Prospect Watch - Scouting the Bowl Games

Definitely watching this game.. Not a huge fan of QB Geno Smith of WV but gotta give a look.  A lot of people love QB Ryan Nassib from Syracuse.  Need to get a good look both I think may end up top 15 if not higher.

I love Nassib's accuracy and smarts

Smith has the athleticism, strong arm and size.

(title edited - we can use this thread to discuss prospects for all the remaining bowl games)

I have really grown to love Nassib this season but I'd be shocked if he goes top 15. weather sucks for this matchup but Nassib has looked good so far.

Good weather to see if they'd be good jets though.

Agree but I think Nassib is the guy that will get into the top 15 this year.  Should be a 2nd rd'er but if his work outs are good I think he gets up there.

You could be right. I watched 3 of his games this year and really liked him. Reminds me a little of Dalton to be honest. I've seen him projected all over the board, as high as 2nd as low as 5th. I think he should go 2nd rd but a lot depends on the upcoming bowls, workouts, and combine. I think Bray will blow people away physically. the kid has amazing raw ability. I want to see what Wilson does in the senior bowl. he has a chance to move himself way up with a strong performance and he'll be going against Trufant in that game (should be fun to watch). I love trufant (very underrated, IMO).

Wow I never heard Nassib being thought of in rd 1. What do you guys think of Glennon?

I like him more than Nassib. :D I think Nassib goes rd 2 or 3 and it is Glennon, Wilson, Barkley, and Bray fighting for the 2nd qb taken. Nassib and Dyer are my two dark horses to sneak into rd 2.

I honestly think there is going to be a run on qbs late rd 1/and rd 2.

Nassib needed a big game here to help his stock. Watch Geno in the 2nd half. He starting to get a rhythm. I think he's gonna put wvu on his shoulders and lead them to victory. Nassib started hot and cooled off. Syracuse is relying on their run game and wvu is relying on Geno.

I have not seen a QB in a bowl game yet, that I would use a # 1 pick on next April. Geno Smith looked a Deer lost in the headlights !

Go Jets...Cyborg

Geno Smith will be taken high by some team looking for this years RG3 but i just have a feeling that he is going to be a colossal bust at the NFL level.West Virginia does not have the best track record either, It made Pat White look like an allstar in college and he couldn't even hack it in the CFL after we cut him.

I still think if barkley is sitting there for the taking when you guys pick you should take the chance on him, As a passing QB there is none who have the passing potential of Barkley, I still think he is going to be a stud player in the NFL.

From watching Mike Glennon versus Florida State and Tennessee the top defenses he has faced.. I hope you guys pick him in the first round as a dolphins fan.

I really do....

Do you think Barkley will make it to the second rd like most are currently predicting (especially now that he suffered a shoulder injury) or you think he goes top 15 some place? He's definitely a wild card this draft. I'm as shocked as you that he sucked this year, especially with that talent around (both wrs and his rb will be starters in the nfl one day, IMO).

RE: Prospect Watch (QB's) West Virginia vs Syracuse

I'm not a big fan of USC quarterbacks playing in New York. I know Geno Smith isn't a sure bet, but I really like what I've seen from him when I watched a couple WVU games this season. He isn't as fast as I thought, but he is quick and agile. He can make every throw required, and take a look at his college completion percentages: 65.3%, 64.8%, 65.8%, 71.2%. Three seasons as a starter.

Jets & Hawkeyes. I must enjoy torturing myself. >.<

He struggled reading Syracuse's D yesterday and held the ball too long, IMO. He also didn't play well in the elements, which is a much for AFC East qbs. I think Geno is going to be a very good qb and Barkley can be a very good qb, but they both need the right situation with a good oc like norv turner, sean payton, harbough, or reid. While I think both can be successful, I don't know if the jets are the right team for them.

Nassib stood tall and took some big hits yesterday. He had a little more zip on his passes yesterday, but didn't throw a tight spiral like I would have liked to see. Even one of his TDs was the perfect read but a tipped ball that with a better spiral would have been perfect. However, the weather did suck...but that is December AFC East weather.

I'm interested in Zachary Dysert from Miami Ohio. He is 6-4 , 230 lbs and has broken nearly all of Ben Rothlisberger's records. Anyone know if he has a bowl game coming up?

He and Nassib are two guys I am really interested in as developmental QBs, especially if we can get one of them in the 3rd round.  Just not confident that they will last that long in this QB-poor draft.  We may be forced to take one in 2nd round to the detriment of fortifying another position of need.

There seems to be a number of solid developmental QB's available. I don't see the team using a 2nd on a guy who may not even be better than McElroy next season. Team needs starters on the OL and LB among other needs.

Agree, except the part about McElroy.  I don't think McElroy has the arm that some of the kids that I have in mind possess.  I think our ideal QB/draft scenario has to include first and foremost an elite OC and QB coach, and a developmental QB that can be had in 3rd round like Dysert or Nassib.   I firmly believe that Sanchez will be on the roster next year due to the obvious cap issues, and an elite coach with an appropriate system might coax some productivity out of the 'albatross'.  Meanwhile we have a big, strong armed kid in the wings learning and developing.  The scenario also allows us to get the OLB and OL players  in the first two rounds that we so desparately need.

A new GM will most likely try to find his guy in his first draft. Not sure of the round. I would add Landry Jones and EJ Manuel to that list of mid round guys to develop.

Does McElroy have a future with the Jets if team drafted a QB? Even if Sanchez returns the team will need a guy capable of coming in and starting.

Nassib and Walls the TE were both impressive I thought. Nassib looks the part and went through his progressions well. Also his accuracy was pretty darn good too.
