Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

The question was who will be right ?  Not who do I think it should be. I still don't have any faith Buddy Jr has the heart to make the switch stick.  That's why Sanchez has his 1 vote so far. I hope I am wrong.

Out of pure curiosity, I would love to hear the reasoning behind the vote for Mark...

Ooops, sorry, I hit the "Post" button too quick. Thanks for your post, Nick. I am too a little suspicious of the lack of guts to announce the change, but I hope it happens and ends the frustration.

Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

i fully expect mcelroy to start.  rex doesn't have a choice.  to me, him not naming a starter right now is more about breaking the news to the team before he announces it publicly, and not them actually evaluating the two.

there's no way rex can justify not giving mcelroy the start.  not the way sanchez has been playing.

I also think Woody, Mike T, and Rex will sit in a room with the PR staff on the messaging of this move.

Questions about Sanchez being due $8+ mill next year coming up and McElroy making the vet min on a rookie deal and what that says about the contract extension are going to arise and as a group they have to decide how to answer that question.  By not announcing McElroy the starter now, he can work out a script with the PR staff on how to answer some of the questions like that (and why not pull Mark during the Pats game for Tebow, why wasn't McElroy active more games, etc, etc).

I do understand that. It is the correct thing most coaches would and should do.

I can just hear him say something like I have been a coach forever and even though Greg did a nice job on Sunday I still think Mark gives us the best chance to win.

I want to be wrong so bad it hurts. I would really like to see what Greg has the rest of the way to help me decide what we need to do in the off season

Now, OLB is painfully obvious (though Thomas looked great today)...but say what you want Powell and Green looked awesome today.  How much do we need to upgrade o-line and RB?  I honestly haven't known because our QB play has been so bad.  I don't know that McElroy fixes that...but I can't say how good our running game and o-line is but I will say it looked a hell of a lot better the second half today and can't wait to see it from here on out.

I voted GMC.  I just wish it could have happened in the 2nd half of the last pats game.

McElroy reminds me of Peyton.  Not because of his skills, but because of the way he elevates the players around him.

He comes in:

All of a sudden Greene and Powell get more than 2 yards.

All of a sudden, Cumberland gets a TD and positive catches.

All of a sudden our O-line actually blocks well.

Our offense was free to play because they didn't have to cringe at the thought of a drive killing INT/fumble.

RE: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

It would be an absolute s*** storm if Sanchez gets the starting nod vs Jax. I cannot imagine anything more controversial than if Rex made that decision. He's made me wonder what goes on in his head more than a few times this year, but I can't believe he'd do anything that stupid.

Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

Anybody not named Sanchez would've brought out the animal in our receivers, rushers, and defense today and made the crowd go crazy, IMO. McElroy was a sight for sore eyes. That's all he was. That said, Sanchez gets to start next week. Rex sent the message, which was I am not scared to bench you, and will give him an opportunity to bounce back. Make no mistake about it.

Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

Rex had to eat a lot of crow to switch to McElroy; however, with the Jags game being in Jacksonville, I bet he goes back to Sanchez. He does not have to worry about the home crowd, and it would be a good game for Sanchez to look good again.

I like McElroy, but I'm betting on Sanchez starting the game.noidea

I am horribly afraid that Woody will tell Rex that if it isn't Sanchez, it's Tebow.

I just don't think the team will take it very well if Sanchez gets the start. My take, and I am inferring this from what I saw on the field yesterday, is that the team is ready to move on from Sanchez.

Nick our off season is going to be the same. In this order is what we need thru free agency and draft. McElroy may turn out to be an upgrade over Sanchez but he is not winning a playoff game ever. Yes Sanchez did but that was well before he Ed Whitsoned us, hopefully you understand that reference.

1. Pass rushing OLB
2. QB most likely a 2nd or 3rd round pick
3. Fress Safety. We have 2 SS starting for us right now
4. OL help G and T

Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

I believe that if you took a secret vote the team would be decidedly behind GM. My gut says they will start Sanchez but he will be on a very very very short leash. For the record though I am against that and think GM should get the start.

Re: Starting QB at Jacksonville?

Jacksonville stinks.   This is a perfect time to further evaluate McElroy...  He can make a few mistakes and we should still win.   I thought it was amazing how the offense really started to jell once the kid came in.  Blocking was better, run game improved, (D played well most of the game).   I think Mark is done in NY..... if his agent is smart, restructure his deal, and work a trade somewhere in offseason.   If GME can win 3 of the next 4, I would look for a quality backup in FA (like Moore) and give the kid the shot next year.   And yes.... he reminds me very much of Pennington........  (love Chad to be the next QB coach.. and coach the kid)

gotta agree. not making excuses so don't get me wrong, but the team is done w/ Mark. Before the awful pick in scoring position to KR, Mark dropped a beauty to Shil on the sidelines...that should've been caught inside the 10; who knows what happens?

the "baited" pick where Mark threw the bomb perfectly over the shoulder...how about making a play as a defender, Shil? Let alone, make the catch...it's your ball too!!!

But the team did seem pumped & Rex can't overlook it...shoot, #84 actually made catches for #14.
