Westhoff talking about coming back next year
...and I'm fine with that. While our special teams has been the worst it has been in a decade this season, I still think he's one of the best in the business and you have to give him credit for the great years Folk and Malone are having (I haven't been this satisfied with our kicking situation in some time).
Overall, I'd like to see him back regardless of the remainder of the coaching staff. Thought?

Re: Westhoff talking about coming back next year
I pray he comes back. ST's, particularly the return game, about the most exciting thing to look forward to with the Jets, and he's the main reason why. I've watch Justin Miller, Leon Washington, and Brad Smith move on to different teams and never again be heard from. Odds are McKnight will be next if he retires, IMO.

Re: Westhoff talking about coming back next year
i'd hope he comes back. it would be a shame if he left after such an awful year by STs. he deserves to go out on a high note, and not on perhaps his worst ST of his career.
any link on this report?

If he returns, it wouldn't be until 2014 at the earliest and not with the Jets. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nf...etirement-brief

Re: Westhoff talking about coming back next year
I read a story in Jets Confidential about Tannenbaum that really ticks me off ! You guys remember Emanuel Cook S and special teams player. Tanny cut him because he was joking around in the weight room instead of pumping iron @ the time ? Tanny asked to see Cook in his office and released him without discussing with the coaches. The Cooks & Patrick Turner's of the World, were good special teams player's. That's why I get upset when Tanny is constantly playing musical chairs with the team. No continuity. Go Jets...Cyborg

Re: Westhoff talking about coming back next year
I know I am in the minority but I think it is time for him to go along with the rest of this coaching staff. Blocked punts and Field goals, fumbles on punt returms, fake punt for big yardage in yesterdays game, and of course the back breaker the McCourty kick return in New England. This is the most un prepared team in the NFL and special teams as I just pointed out have been a disaster this year

They rarely were outta postion. So please forgive me for disagreeing with you that this was Westhoff's fault & not (in some small part) giving him less to work with. I know Tebow gets a lotta talk being the personal punt protector, but I'd rather have Stanton as a backup QB, and a guy who doesn't allow a lane to our kicker...ala' Tebow.

No need for forgiveness I love the guy I just feel that we have not had a great year on ST where in the past we have always had the best ST in the NFL

I think it's time for new blood on the sidelines there. Hopefully he has groomed a protege for us.

Agree he has been outcoached all year... time to hang them up. SFCJETSFAN wrote: I know I am in the minority but I think it is time for him to go along with the rest of this coaching staff. Maybe it's the protege that has been calling the games lately and that's why they've been so bad lately (kind of like Rex with Pettine). Could also account for him thinking about coming back for one more year to help get the replacement trained up better.

RE: Westhoff talking about coming back next year
maybe the problem is obvious...Tannenbaum. Who exactly do you think Westhoff uses on ST? He uses the rest of the roster outside most starters, but who has been incessantly flipping bodies? Tannenbaum. Has this been worth it? Khalil Bell.....nice job. I'm tired of this pencil pusher......yes that is who he is.......making personnel decisions.
