Roster Update - Hicks (G) Cut, Gilyard (WR) signed, 2 PS signees

Guard Hawthorne Hicks, signed off the Colts practice squad a couple of weeks ago was released.  WR Mardy Gilyard who was recently released by the Eagles was signed to the active roster. Our old friend, OL Dennis Landolt was added to the practice squad and WR Eddie McGee who spend some time with the Raiders was also added to the practice squad.  Still one spot left on the Practice Squad - I'm sure they would love Hicks to pass through waivers and be signed to the PS.

Re: Roster Update - Hicks (G) Cut, Gilyard (WR) signed, 2 PS

I have no more faith that Tannenbaum knows what the hell he is doing anymore ? Our active roster and practice squad is constantly like "musical chairs" ! If you notice the top 10 teams in the league and read the transaction wire like I do everyday, you notice they rarely are moving players on and off their rosters ? They are steady, consistent and sound, and that helps create a secure 53 player roster.

But when players are worried the "Turk" will come knocking on their door, they are anxious and worried. Get a strong 53 Tannenbaum and stick with it.banghead

Go Jets...Cyborg

Well, our WR group is banged up with 2 players suffering concussions last week so he had to do something.  Weird Gilyard was the pick over bringing Hill back.  Hmmmm.

I REALLY want Hicks to clear waivers and stick on the PS.  Guard is a position the Jets need to keep looking at players and I'd love Hicks to develop.

I know that the Colts were very disappointed to lose him off their practice squad.  I wonder about Caleb S who we got from the Packers.  He has been on the roster for almost two years, but has been active maybe a handful of times.  How good can he be if he can't beat out Vlad and Slauson?  Would be a shame if we lose a guy like Hicks, who may be a higher ceiling developmental guy in exchange for JAG.

Hayworth Hicks 6'3"/336 G was picked up by the K.C. Chiefs as Tanny tried to sneak him back to our P.S.. This could come back to haunt us with Slauson & Moore both free agents.

I wouldn't worry about Slauson, he is gone after this season. He is HATING being platooned with Vlad. No way he resigns with us.

Re: Roster Update - Hicks (G) Cut, Gilyard (WR) signed, 2 PS

JGROTE, I just don't see us drafting a guard or tackle with our # 1 pick and I doubt Warmack will still be on the board in the 2nd round ?

OLB - Pace & Thomas might both be gone.
RB - Greene is a free agent.
TE - Keller is a free agent.
G - Slauson will be in Dallas next season, and Moore is old and expensive.
S - Landry is a free agent & Bell is old.
RT - Is Howard really the answer.
QB - Sanchez sucks, Tebow is worse, and McElroy is a great back-up QB.

One way we could fill several of those holes is by trading Revis. We could get a Kings ransom for him ? But then we lose the best CB tandem in the NFL.

While I think Warmack is good, I don't see us going there rd 1.  OLB seems like the obvious pick, IMO...but o-line is a close second.  If Jones, Moore, Montgomery, and Mingo are gone when we pick...likely we take o-line or Eifert TE.

I don't think we take QB, RB, or S rd 1...which leaves OLB and o-line, IMO, with an outside shot at TE maybe (I don't see us taking WR).

RE: Roster Update - Hicks (G) Cut, Gilyard (WR) signed, 2 PS sig

Chance Warmack is a beast. It all depends on who is on the board when you pick, but if Rex and Sparano are still here, it would be hard for them to pass up a massive run blocking guard. (also, one position guards tend to slide 1/2 round or so in the draft )

Agree with this assessment.
Some thoughts:
I think that OLB will be made the first draft priorities.
Since we have so many needs, maybe we trade down our first round
pick to get a few for depth, and end up getting more of a good OLB,
then one more likely to be great.

I think we need to get another QB. If not in free agency, then take a chance
on a prospect in rounds 2-4, groom him and hope we can have one for the future.

Austin Howard is good depth, but not a starter - he seems to get beat a lot
by speed rushers. I think we may go with two OL in the draft and maybe something
in FA.

We need to draft a running back(Taylor, Franklin, other).

If an offensive weapon is available then we could take a shot -
someone that a defensive coordinator actually needs to account
for - Tavon Austin?

TE, S, another WR all would be good.

I think we can get another year out of Bryant Thomas, as we have so
many needs we can't address all our needs in one year.

Of course if we actually trade Revis, we will be better able to address these
needs, but add CB to them.

RE: Roster Update - Hicks (G) Cut, Gilyard (WR) signed, 2 PS sig

Trading down would be the way to go, given our many needs. I just don't trust Tanny to execute that strategy. All he has done here is trade up, which is one of the main reasons (along with huge contracts to guys like Holmes, Harris and Sanchez) why we are where we are from a depth perspective. We need a GM that can pull out all the stops to reverse the trend and repair the entire roster, not just the 22 starters.

I seriously doubt we go TE with our first pick, especially since Keller wants to return and Cumberland has been showing some positive catches recently.

I'll play along.....

Pace and Thomas--- both long gone after this season
Greene--- dont resign--  Sign Reggie Bush to play with Powell
Keller--- dont resign..  Get a run blocking TE and team with Rueland
Slauson and Moore---- Let them go (along with Vlad)
Landry---- must resign (top priority)
Howard-- Keep as depth.  Sign Jake Long and convert him to RT
McElroy--- keep as a Chad like game manager

Trade Revis.....

Draft OLB--  top pick
CB  next pick and team with Cro-- move Wilson back to nickle
Draft G
Draft RB
Draft TE
Best available for each other pick

FA  Guard
FA  Free Safety
FA  Inside Backer (team with Harris)
FA  Back up QB
Move Davis to OLB

Insure as solid run game and let McElroy manage it.  Also while were dreaming  switch to a 4-3 with Wilk and Coples (DE) and Ellis and Pouha (T)   Harris Davis and drafted OLB, Cro and drafted CB  Landry and FA safety

Offense   Dbrick,  Drafted G, Mango, FA guard, Long  McElroy, Bush/Powell, Rueland/ FA or drafted TE, Holmes, Hill, Kerley.

Not a bad group...... (hey I can dream)......

Jake Long LT is one of the highest paid tackles in the NFL, and he'll want his last contract to be his "golden parachute" !

Yeah....and no to signing him.  I'd rather resign Revis than add Jake Long.  Vollmer, RT Pats would be a cheaper option but I wouldn't mind stealing OG Levitre from the bills.  He's been a really good runblocker for them over the past two seasons.  He'd be an upgrade at one of our 2 OG openings.
