Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

Ok! Woosahhh! Serenity 1, 2, 3! Back from hibernation leaving the summer time blues behind with a great World Cup & my disappointing Rangers. Smh! Sigh...

I would be very surprised if BIG BLUE smell .500. I think things have to go very well for this squad to even smell .500. That's how bad this Offense is. I'll touch on the Defense but allow me to state the obvious. Ah, the Great Wall of feces (OL). I remember venting on this OL as D worse in the NFL. Passing on Zack Martin & David Yankey (both should've been drafted) when they were clearly available is a testament why this team in going nowhere, nowhere fast. It is a testament why JR is one of D worse GM's in the business. I stay firm with my opinion of JR. Despicable isn't the word to describe what a horrendous job JR & the front office have done with this Offense. To draft a ST player in the first round is beyond me. Beckham wasn't even the go to WR in LSU. David Wilson is the other buster in case y'all wondering. I mean... Does protecting Eli even come across the front office futile minds? Protecting Eli with QUALITY OFFENSIVE LINEMAN doesn't cross their hollow heads?! 5-0 In pre season is as impressive as kids getting awarded for mediocrity in anything. The WCO isn't tailored made for inaccurate immobile QB with horrible offensive linemen & poor receiving corps. This draft was generally deep, there were BETTER WR available, a handful of TE available, & of course, OL available to address the team's weaknesses. That's just on Offense. With the garbage OLine, Eli has no chance having a successful 2014 campaign & no business taking snaps under Center with his immobile self. Eli should be & stay in Shotgun formation much like Brady does. NE knows what they're doing. There's a reason why they're always in the hunt. This WCO is a disaster waiting to happen. Who is McApooh fooling? This offensive scheme is for mobile QB like Nassib which is why he had success in pre season. This organization does things backwards. They do very few things right & when they do, the front office gets glorified. Smh! Few things are bright on offense i.e., Cruz, the entire RB unit, &...dassit pa-PI! No mas! I would say the kid Corey Washington reminds me of a then UFA rookie named Cruz. A lot of potential that kid Washington yes? If Washington doesn't make the team over Manningham, or the other low expectation WR busters, then this team will only state the obvious (clueless). If Washington makes it, then it means they do very few things right.

Now the D. Remember I said Beason wasn't enough? Remember I said if something happens to Beason we're back to the Stone Age? McClain is a nice complementary piece to Beason but he's not a MIKE. No sir he's not. Better than Herzlich? Damn right! But McClain isn't a Mike. For that they should've drafted Chris Borland or Shane Skov which, the 49ers drafted/acquired (smart team). The DL doesn't look much improve. Where's the pass rush!? WHERE!? Where's Moore? Where's Idonije? Very underrated DE (Idonije). Giants love giving 9 lives to high draft busters. Kiwi is one of them. That dude is just as ordinary as they get. He couldn't give you 10 sacks as a starter if his life depended on it. Kiwi opted to comeback for less money for a reason, cause he knows he wouldn't cut it elsewhere much like another former bust (Ross) couldn't cut it in Jax. All this team does is draft 1st round busters (generally speaking). The DL is suspect at best. With Beason, the LB unit is solid. However, Beason hasn't played a 16 gm season since 2010. That's enough concern in itself. Secondary is the brightest unit in the D. Bravo! JR & co. got something right for a change. I know, a rare thing. Zack Bowman & Chandler Fenner should make the team. Bowman + Fenner > Amukamara.

The return game is yet again weak. No Holliday no Beckham sight. Smh! There are more question marks than assertiveness. Secondary, RB, Kicking/Punting are the only bright spots in the team. I was wrong about the two SB teams before the season began & I hope I'm wrong this time around. However, then we actually had better, stronger OLine/WR/TE units than we do today. I just don't see a playoff this year. If we don't, I truly hope JR is axed.

Agree with the premature assessment. I'll at least wait and watch some meaningful games before I get frustrated and vent.

Thank you Mr. Negative.

The moment you brought up Shane Skov, I stopped reading. There was a reason teams were turned off by Skov and he didn't get drafted. He didn't hold any workouts and only did the combine. Not much to hold your hat on if you planned on getting drafted. Can't blame Reese or the Giants for that. But then again, Reese doesn't make the draft picks. That's a popular misconception that people fail to realize after being told many of times on here. I'm under the assumption (with no evidence whatsoever) that Skov bombed everything so he could land with the 49ers and his former coach.

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

I think you've set things up in your mind that you aren't going to be disappointed and you might enjoy a few wins.

Look back at the 2004 roster, there are quite a few similarities.

I think they are a 8-8 team, but if things all work in their favor maybe they'll be 9-7.
I don't think they are better than the Eagles and we always have problem with the Eagles, so I don't see
a playoff this year. But, I don't think they'll be out of it until near the end.

And if I'm wrong, hooray!biggrin

I just don't know if I can stand a 4-12 year, here. They'll need a suicide watch forum, to talk some guys down.

Let's put it this way. We're all Giant fans. Sometimes the team isn't as loyal to us, but we are a band of
brothers. If it's going to be bad, then so be it. I lived through some very bleak seasons, for both the Giants
and myself.pirate It will make the future all the more better when we win. But, the carping and complaining
should be left for the Yankee fans, not Giant fans. Here's hoping for a great season. cool

I am pretty much looking at 6-10 at best.  My expectations for this team are at an all time low.  My goal for this season is to watch, cheer and hope for the best.  My focus will be mostly the development of the young players and who will be here in years to come.  I'll basically take the approach that I use when watching preseason games. Don't focus on wins as much as development of the youngsters. And if they prove me wrong and come together and get to the playoffs and make a run...then I'll be pleasantly surprised and consider it a bonus.

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

Vent all u want...it's a REALITY scenario with only 2
OL that were on the team as starters not to
mention a new OC and a few receivers...
I mean really....what's the deal with you guys saying
they won't make the playoffs.
Look at the present situation of how long many of
these guys ever played together.

Only the DL has had more time together...the secondary
is a whole new set.

jelling!!!!....won't come to any sort of level of
play till mid season at best.
The players!!! We have them...it'll take time but
I think we have a beast of a line-up

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

I think we're about a 500 team.

I reasonably think 9-7 is within reach (75%) and I think 10-6 is a bit of a stretch (25%).

If you want to look at it negatively, I think 7-9 is a realistic finish and 6-10 is a bit of a stretch as well.

I think we played much better the 2nd half of last year....I think we will surprise a lot of teams and fans this year.

I think the Giants are better than the Red Sox type fans we've become on this forum expect from them this year.

I would like to think we can make the playoffs with a 9-7 record and make a run in the playoffs...maybe get lucky like we have before.

We've seen it happen before.....

Why can't it happen again.

If the damn injury bug leaves us alone for a year, and we get some lucky breaks....hopefully we will all be bitching about who our 3rd wr should be in a playoff game.

Regardless....I'll be hooting/hollering and screaming/yelling when my beloved Big Blue take the field every week this year.

Try and remember that fellas.

Skov finished the 2013 season with 109 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, good enough to make him a third-team AP All-American. Shhh!!!

But Mat Berhe is worth a 5th rd pick though? Ah hahahaha! Another Michael Johnson but slower. Right on braw! You know what's up! o_O

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

I'm with you homie. I really Am. But based on the reality of the OL, Eli & this WCO which is basically oil & water, I don't see it developing, ever. Ever! Some systems are not suited on certain personnel. We don't have the personnel to run the WCO. We just don't. Trash is trash, & the OL is probably D worse in the league. There's a reason why Eli led the league with 27 INT. It's because he was running for his life. Granted, Eli always been a TO machine but when he's running for dear life his TO increases. Whether forced fumble, forcing a bad pass because he has a helmet on his gut, is all relative. Listen! I too will be rooting hard for GMEN, but I'm not expecting a division tittle. I can assure you that won't happen. Philly is too strong. Second place is realistic but that second place could very well be 6-10/7-9. I don't believe 8-8 will cut a WC spot. Not even sure 9-7 would either. Memba, Cards missed playoffs at 10-6. Food for thought. We're not touching 10-6. Trust & believe.

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

I had a dream last night where I was watching a Giants game and as the announcer was introducing the team he said, "The 0-13 New York Giants". I swear I'm not making this up, lol. Usually when I get dreams about my sports teams they're pretty accurate, for better or worse.

Interesting

In 86 the day BEFORE Bears vs Giants I woke up sweating and telling my parents at the breakfast table: "Simms is gonna get killed. he is gonna be sacked 20 times. Giants lose"

Simms got sacked 12 times, hit another 15 and the Giants lost 21-0

after the game my Dad deadpanned: "ok, what is the (NJ) pick 4 for tomorrow?"

me: "I didn't dream that"

Dad talking to mom: "useless in his dreams as well. why doesn't he dream about finding a job and moving out?"

biggrin

Heh, that's interesting.

I remember the night before the Giants played the Eagles in '89 at Giants Stadium, I had a bad dream about that game too. Sure enough, the Giants lost and Cunningham rubbed it in their faces by punting the ball for 90+ yards.

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

Yea, rookie PR/KR/RB Dave Meggett got screamed at by parcells when he came to the sideline, grabbed his facemask and I think his words were (censored of course) "if you ever let a punt by you like that again, you are cut"... that punt hit near the 40 and the wind + old Giants stadium turf/concrete...took it to the 1 or so...disaster, cause Eagles Defense was awesome those years.

Meggett would turn into one of the NYG's best returners in their history.

0-13 is as possible as 13-0 this year

Its been a long time since I could not get a read on this team, so I go with my normal positive 10-6 and hope for best!

Re: Why GMEN will miss playoffs... AGAIN!

Sigh!!!!  We haven't even started the season yet and already the naysayers are out.  We won't make the playoffs, Eli sucks, Reese can't draft, Beckham was a waste of a pick.  Really people?  Let's play a game that actually counts for something before we write the team, players, and GM off.

So, if you feel the team is going to suck again and not make the playoffs don't watch.  Why put yourself through what you know will be nothing but heartache and agony. Safe yourself that pain.

Me, I will wait for games to actually be played that count.  I will watch and root the Giants on instead of already counting them out.

What I am most thankful for is that the pessimistic thoughts of fans are not what determine the season.  Luckily they actually play the games to determine the outcome.

Time will tell about JR s selections but so far he looks good in his choice of Nassib .
