Blasphemy!!

Blasphemy!!

Well I may be melting down the holy grail but in a truly fair, even and unbiased world, is there any gravitas to my thinking that Ryan Nassib should be the opening day QB this year...he did a really nice job against a first string Jets defense tonight and the Jets are not a shabby D.Truly, it looks like Ryan is more suited to the WCO than Eli is, even Painter has had less problems so, is it possible to bench a franchise?..OKAY...ATTACK!!!noidea

Re: Blasphemy!!

The old adage - the backup QB is always the most popular guy on the team with fans. There's no possible way in the world Nassib starts the season ahead of our 2 time Superbowl MVP, who is learning a new system and struggling.... Honestly, this strikes me as an opinion of someone that doesn't get it.

If you start Nassib, Eli is done in NY. Do you really think we're at that point with Eli?

Re: Blasphemy!!

He has looked better, your eyes are not deceiving you, but its only preseason and Eli is a two-time Super Bowl MVP. That means he'll start the year, obviously, and get plenty of rope. That said, if the Giants start the year badly again, like last year, and Eli is really struggling, I do believe they'll go to Nassib. The Giants would save themselves a lot of money and resources if Nassib can be their next starting quarterback and save them from scouting quarterbacks and moving around in the draft to obtain the one they want, and then signing him and then developing him. Nassib is already under a very cheap contract (4th round pick) and they wouldn't have to use another draft pick on a quarterback. Nassib is also in his second season so he's not a rookie, and he's familiar with this new offense and he's getting better and better at it. The Giants WANT Ryan Nassib to be their next quarterback, trust me. So if the season goes south, he'll be in there gaining valuable experience as well as showing what he can do. If he plays well, he's the next QB, if not then the massive effort begins to find the next quarterback as Eli won't be back in 2015 in this scenario.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

Re: Blasphemy!!

Thanks for the comments guys...Cowboy, just putting this out as a talking point; no way in tgis football universe do I want to see Eli sit...chalk this up to my devil advocacy(Eli's jersey is the only Jint laundry I own!!)

Leagued...your comment is exactly in line with what i was thinking...Nassib's progress is truly a welcome occurrence and bodes well for the team's future but I have to believe that Eli will come around to Doo's system and do well enough to win games - of course the question is when and I also believe that Jennings and Williams will pick up the slack in the running game as well as catching passes out of the backfield...my nextmridiculous question would be:

Should we sit JPP in favor of DaMonster? Or does McClain open instead of Beason?

Let's play ball!

There are 20 million reasons Eli starts. After all, who - in their right mind -  volunteers to go into Mara's office and tell him he's paying $20 mill for a guy to hold a clipboard? eek

Re: Blasphemy!!

Right...it always comes down to the money, don't it. Anyway, I have faith in Eli's work ethic, that he will work as hard as it takes to get right with the program...he will do as well as his O line protection allows him.

Re: Blasphemy!!

after watching the game, and watching eli run , run and run some more from the jets 2 to 4 man rush vs our OL....a conclusion as to having nassib start is not the answer.

If Eli is no longer the answer, then we got to ask a lot of questions.
Is Nassib the replacement? Do we need to draft a franchise QB and accept the 2-3 yr development time.
Which players on the team will not be along for the ride. Example might as well let Brown go, because we
need 2-3 to get the 'promise land', IF WE ARE LUCKY. Hopefully this is just a stutter step. Unfortunately
for me Eli, doesn't right now inspire confidence. Eli is in his 11th year, this problem is going to need
addressing soon. It has been my experience players lose it after 13 yrs, no matter how good. His brother
may be giving us Giant fans false hope.

I'm sure TC and the organization have the answer from a football angle, but from a marketing angle,
who here is on board for the next 3 years of no playoffs? Once Eli is sat down or not signed, then we
all know we are in for some lean years.

Another question, was WCO offense brought in for Nazzib? If so then the handwritting is on the wall.
If the Giants had confidence in Eli, I would have thought they would have brought in Sullivan to be the OC.
It's the offense that plays to Eli's strengths and TC preference as a coach.

Don't expect too much honesty from the Giant FO, they are never honest about anything. Might be
purposeful, but I don't listen to what they have to say. Beckham is OK, right! Wilson, has not reinjured
his neck, right!

Re: Blasphemy!!

I think Eli needs to do a better job stepping into the pocket and either picking a receiver to try and throw the ball to, or just throwing it away when the play is just not there.

I also feel like we have been pretty conservative with our offensive playbook in the preseason.   I hope this isn't a sign of things to come during the regular season.   There were a couple of times where I was wondering why we didn't just try and take a shot downfield on a couple of the 3rd and longs.    But......I suppose we will all find out.

I was a little discouraged when Eli missed Randle early in the first quarter.    He was pretty open and that could have led to a touchdown.    I was happy that Eli executed in that last drive.   I'm ok with him using those half rollouts.    We were freaking out last season wondering why KG never moved the pocket.   Not saying Eli should be doing this on 50% of his snaps......but I think it's useful to keep aggressive defenses on their toes.

Nassib looked better than he's ever looked in a Giants uniform.    I am happy to see that.   I hope he can keep it up.

Yes, lets star Nassib who has played against 2nd and 3rd stringers. *sarcasm off*

All we know about Nassib is that he leads our backups who are better then other team's backups.

TheShade beat me to the reply. If Eli the Man goes down so go'eth the season. Nassib is a nice kid with that "P" to be a NFL QB. Will he, ask TC.

Re: Blasphemy!!

If Eli does not start performing at a much higher level than he has in the last couple of years, it is time to start thinking of trading him if that is even possible.  I would hate to think of another year of totally ineffective offense.    Maybe fixing the OL is not the only issue.  Eli has had some great runs but there are no guarantees he has that much left in the tank.  I hope he flips the switch and plays great, but if he doesn't.....................

Nothing lasts forever!

He's a cap killer. No one would trade for him w/o Giants eating some salary and that's not going to happen. Besides, do you really believe Mara would trade him? They are going to do everything they can to have him retire a Giant. They will make another attempt to fix the line this offseason. Eli won't be the fall guy and, given the how the line has looked, he probably shouldn't be. Unless this team "gels" in a way that does not seem possible at this time, it's going to be a long, disappointing season.

You are probably right in all of your assumptions.  When I talked about a trade, I must have time traveled back to an era before caps and ridiculous salaries

Ahhh, when football was great, defense ruled the day, and commercials did not add an extra hour to game time. I miss it, too, my friend. I miss it, too. wink
