Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

...Nicks sure didn't look like he was "done" to me. There's a silver lining to this if our GM actually learns a lesson and never tries to do contract negotiations through press conference anymore. banghead  Of course, given how awful the offense looks, maybe he won't be our GM after this season ends.

I never criticised Nicks last season, because I never doubted his ability. He is a huge loss. It's only a pre season game, but the guy can play. I also blame the GM for Nicks disappointing season, it affected his play

Who are we kiddin', the Giants could go 1-15 and Reese would still be here. No way Mara fires him.

Nicks is a spoiled football player. Two or three games into the season he will become the malcontent he was with the Giants. Good riddance.

You know this how? If that's your opinion of someone you never met, never worked with, and never shared a locker room with, ok. Say it's your opinion. You are allowed your opinion. But do not present it as fact.

I think there were a lot of things going on behind the scenes between Nicks and the Giants that we weren't  privy to and will never know the full details about.

Re: Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

This was Hakeem Nicks being extremely motivated. This is the best he'll do with the Colts. The first play or two he got nothing and was slammed down hard by J. Williams which pissed him off. He got up yelling something at Williams. After that, every time he had the ball in his hands he was running like a man possessed and was trying to stuff it in the Giants faces. Too bad he didn't have that kind of fire the last two years or else he'd be a lifetime Giant.

I also think the game showed that he lacks class and intelligence. He made that stupid penalty which wiped out a huge gain and he laughed and smiled after he did it for about a good minute or two. He thought it was funny or cool what he did by waving at the defenders. To be honest it just made me glad that he's not on the team anymore. I still do not think that Hakeem Nicks is going to be a big time player ever again and I am glad that a player whose work ethic has been questioned by two organizations is no longer on the one that I root for.

+1
This guy has or had the ability, but IMHO not the motivation.  This year we will see what happens.

A++++++

I agree 100%.

I want players who want to play to win ALL the time. Nicks ahs tremendous talent, when motivated, but he is an injury waiting to happen.

Seems Reese is a hard learner. he did the same thing with Osi and we lost him also.

I wish someone would pick up JPP and slam him to the ground if that's what it takes to motivate someone.  I'd say the same about Eli but getting slammed to the turf is becoming his new calling card.

What are you talking about?

He's doing so great, he is the 3rd WR for Colts. If he wanted to accept a $3.5 million contract with the Giants
I'm sure they would have given him some consideration. That fact that he was pumped up in a meaningless
game, shows nothing. And his reaction to his ex-team mate , shows that he is still a *****. He'll be in CFL next
year. TC being probably one of the best judges of WR's made his judgement, which should be good enough
for any Giant fan. If he had the 'goods' he'd still be here.

Stop judging the GM, he's a pro and you are a fan. You don't have all the facts. You have an opinion like everyone
else here. Wait to the end of the season to validate your opinion. They haven't gotten out of pre season yet.

Ahh, leagued, I knew this post would set you off! I would LOVE to have a little wager with you your statement. Getting back on topic, did you see Nicks interaction with Coughlin? They sought each other out, there was genuine warmth between the two men, and then Coughlin did something I didn't expect - he put his hand up too Nicks cheek in what came across to me - and a few others I spoke to about it - as a very fatherly gesture. It's something I have done with my own children. I don't think you could see that interaction and come to any other conclusion but that the two men genuinely and deeply care for one another. I find it impossible to believe a blunt, old school coach like Coughlin would EVER share a moment like that with someone he didn't respect and care for. I have asked you, repeatedly, and you've never responded - find me ONE Giants player, member of the coaching staff, and/or front office that is willing to go on the record that Nicks was a problem. One. If he's bad as you have made him out to be, there should be a locker room full of guys saying how happy they are he is gone. All there is out there is an "anonymous source" who made a comment to one NY sportswriter. For all we know it was Stoney! wink (just kidding Stone!). If it had any validity, why hasn't anyone else come forward to support it? Cruz makes no secret that he and Nicks are still tight. Would Cruz be buds with a player he had no respect for? Cruz gives it his all. Hard to believe he would be tight with Hakeem if he thought Hakeem didn't play the same way. I know you have a genuine dislike of the guy. And you're absolutely entitled to your opinion. But given that the men who know him best are still close to him, I submit to you that perhaps your opinion may be wrong. I think JR mangled the negotiations and acted unprofessionally. So, divorce was inevitable. That's okay. I get it that it's a business. But your anger is palpable. Very odd that this guy, who I am assuming you have never met, can trigger you this way.

As long as we don't expect him to complete 70% of his passes, he'll be okay. tongue

Re: Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

I have no anger toward Nicks. I am, however, thankful that he is no longer a Giant because the guy was not a good football player the last 1 1/2 years. I'll never get the image out of my head of him not even trying to tackle the defensive back after they intercepted Eli last year. And him waving at McBride as he went out of bounds, costing his team a 36 yard gain and then laughing out loud and smiling about it for a minute or two was just ridiculous.

Did you see Pagano's reaction? He was not happy and he had an earful for Nicks after that possession ended.

The guy was a great player in his first three seasons. Last year he was not good and now he's gone. He was admittedly fired up for that game, in which the Giants didn't even game plan as it was a scrimmage. Let's see how Hakeem does all year long. And if you honestly don't believe he'll be injured at some point then you are one of the few with that belief. I'd bet my house that he is injured sooner or later as he has never made it through an entire NFL season without being hurt.

The bottom-line is I am not a fan of his and you are and we're both entitled to our positions.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

First off, where did I say anything about injuries? I did not. But since you brought it up, I would rather have a guy who is going to produce, even if he get injured, than a guy who does nothing. Right now, all I see is one WR on our team - Cruz. And he's getting hammered at the line every play. So, when he gets hurt, again, this season because he is all we have to offer and DBs will be pounding him, are you going to write Cruz off, too? What I did say in the previous post was I would love to make a bet on your comment that that will be Nicks best game of the entire season. I think that comment is ridiculous and, I suspect, you do, too, which is why you avoided it. I think you're worried he's going to have a field day against us when the game counts, November 3rd. As for the penalty, yep, it sure was stupid. He admitted that, apologized to his team, the coaches, and the fans. But once again, your hypocrisy shows. It's pretty telling how whenever you want to defends the Giants, the games are only a "scrimmage" (which you know is not true). Yet, you're so bothered by Nicks penalty. Hey, it's just a scrimmage, right? So, what's the big deal? Everyone knows if you're going to make a mistake, better it be a scrimmage than a game. Finally, as for your opinions, of course you're entitled to them. I never disputed that. I merely suggested you may want to reconsider them given that some of them appear based on one anonymous statement that has never been verified nor supported by any member of the team. You hold your "position" as long as you like. What you are not entitled to do, though, is to make up your own set of facts to support your position. The team got a second ring because Nicks was unstoppable that post season. I won't forget that because I never thought I would see the day when a Giants WR dominated other teams Ds like Hakeem did. Now, you would be 100% correct if you took the position of "what have you done for me lately". But if you want to apply that standard to Nicks, then you have to apply it to Eli, the HC, the GM, and a number of others, as well.

Re: Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

I wrote a long response this morning to what you wrote, Dweez, but when I went to post it for some reason it didn't work and I'm not going to write it all out again.

Bottom line is that I feel there are a lot of good young receivers on this team. Sure they are not proven yet, but I do like what they "can" be. I honestly feel they offer more than Nicks does at this point. So I don't share your view that Nicks is a great receiver and that the Giants screwed up by not keeping him. I think Nicks's best is behind him. I know you disagree so we'll "agree to disagree".

But more than anything, can we move on? Nicks is not even a Giant anymore. The only reason I took the time to argue with you in this post is because they just played his team. He's no longer on my radar as he's not even in the same conference anymore. He's gone and history and I am more concerned with the current Giants team. Can we talk about them from now on? No point in beating a dead horse here.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

Re: Only one quarter in a preseason game, but....

Hakeem Nicks screwed Hakeem Nicks.

He half-assed it last year cause Victor Cruz got paid and he didnt. Yes, he may have not been 100%, but he was dogging it alot. It really pissed me off for the first time and I was glad the Giants didnt re-sign him.

The Giants drafted a WR in the first round. Odell Beckham Jr. He is a great route runner, has good hands and is really fast. It sucks he has missed so much time with the hamstring. Hopefully he will get on the field soon.

Its not like the Giants lost Nicks and didnt get a replacement for him.
