Did they make mistake with McAdoo?

Did they make mistake with McAdoo?

An Offensive Coordinator has to tailor his approach to the players he has. You have a two-time Super Bowl MVP who looks lost. Let's face it, he's not nimble and probably not suited for McAdoo's offense. Maybe I'm panicking too early, but from what I see thus far, we should have left this guy in Green Bay - where here never called a play.

He inherited a broken QB - Eli was totally lost last year too.  I disagree that the WC offense didn't hold the potential to work with Eli.  A QB that can read the D and make quick decisions should help overcome weak pass protection.  I thought maybe this scheme could improve Eli's confidence which was shot when the OL was so weak last year, but Eli looks even worse if that's possible.

I have certainly scaled back my expectations for this season. Not that I had SB on my mind.  I don't think we will see this team in sync offensively until half way through the season at best.  I am starting to think that McAdoo may have as many growing pains calling plays as the players will have trying to execute them. I may be wrong and things may come together sooner, but at this point I am not going to hold my breath.

Re: Did they make mistake with McAdoo?

yes - mcadoo must know his players better, who can do whats needed.

Eli - certainly not suited to this offense as of now. and to be quite hones, except for a short window of '09-11, ok and 12 he has not been great throughout his career. and the '07 year regardless of SB mvp honors want won because of his play (see NYG defense), now 2011 certainly was with his 4th quarter comebacks. 4 out of 10 years, 2 SB championships, pretty good.

but for the future...this is going to be a telling year if he thinks he can play as long as his brother and considering theres no major injury on his resume he probably thinks so, but his play is another matter. being the 20th "best"! qb or so, in a league of 32 is not good.

so while the nYg didnt make a mistake with McD, he has to know what players can and cant do.
in conclusion, Eli is not aaron rodgers. (now thats funny its so true)

wow a few weeks ago some were stating that McAdoo was head coach in waiting, now hmmm? I dont think Mc has the players he needs right now to make this system hit on all cylinders, but retooling is more than a one season process.

I doubt that McAdoo sold himself to the Giants as the long term builder of the Post-Eli era.  He is following a guy who left after a one-year blip in an otherwise almost unbroken string of top ten offenses.  With BMs complete lack of experience at this level he is not going to be given that much rope.  If the Giants offense is not at least top 20 I do not see this guy being around.

Comparing eli to paton is vastly unfair. Payton has been in ONE system his whole career, including denver,...

He also happened to design that system.

Absolutely.  The adrenaline starts flowing when the games count.

Yes, let us decide if a coach's offensive scheme is a failure before a single snap has ever been taken.  I also think the Giants 2030 first round pick is a bust.  That kid is stumbling all over his living room, granted he is in diapers and can't walk yet, but lets judge his football ability now too.

Exactly, can we please wait until some regular season games have been played before we decide who is good, who isn't and who should be fired. My goodness gracious.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

You got that right!
It's part of the culure. Everyone 'thinks' they are a genius and wants instant gratification.

Some of these guys should have been Giant fans from 64' - 80'. Our Superbowl was the draft.
Each year we'd take the Giant publicity 'kool aid'. Rocky Thompson was going to be the next .......
Most young guys during that era became Jet fans, Cowboy fans, Bronco fans etc etc
but not Giant fans. Always said, being a Giant fan is character building. biggrin Defeat & Victory are
just different sides of the same coin! And if you are a 'Character' you've found the right team.confused

But, I also agree that the players should determine the 'scheme'. Trying to take square pegs and
force them into round holes, doesn't work. McAdoo needs, though at least a season to prove himself
not half way through the preseason and a few preseason games. Maybe they can fire McAdoo and
bring back Ray Hadley, I'm sure he's available and you know, he was a 'genius'devil

It nice that everyone can get upset about McAdoo, OL, Eli, etc otherwise you'd have to listen to
the News and slit your wrists. I think the Giants are .500 team. With a little luck we'll challenge for a
playoff spot. A few injuries and we can be 4-12 team. Anyone who is expecting SB contention is
going to be disappointed. We still don't have the 'horses'. Need at least one more good draft,
but probably 2.  Check out Maureen McGovern "The Morning After" pirate

Re: Did they make mistake with McAdoo?

Let's remember that the Giants got a new defensive coordinator in 2007. The defense gave up 80 points in the first two games. They ended up being one of the best defenses in football that year and shut down the high octane undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl. The next year there defense was one of the best again. His name was Steve Spagnolo.

I am worried that the offense looks like it did last year. Missed blocking assignments, three and outs, sacks, turnovers, etc.

But it is way too early to say hiring McAdoo was a mistake. Not even one regular season game has been played. There not going to tip there hand offensively in a preseason game.

Patience is a dying breed...
