Rumor has it, Chris Snee to retire tomorrow

Hello all,

Yes, I'm back, finally.  Miss me?  :D  Anyhow, I plan on getting morning notes out again pretty soon, but anyway, here's what I read on BBI.... it really appears that Chris Snee is going to retire tomorrow.  Some pretty good information.  I was hoping it wasn't true, but this appears legit.  Thanks Chris!!

A report just came over NFL network saying that Snee is to meet w the Giants tomorrow. The issue of retirement is supposed to be addressed.

Guess we should know pretty soon whether or not Snee will be a Giant next year.

ALL IN, ALL THE TIME!!

The tea leaves seemed to be ultimately pointing in this direction Ed.    Snee was a highly solid member of the OL during the TC years.   Too bad his body has ultimately failed him.   I had a feeling the Giants just kind of let him give it a go.....and he prob wasn't going to go to another team.

What do you think of the changes on offense Ed?   I realize it's OT........or should I wait until your next missive is available.

Two weeks until the first Giants preseason game.    Crazy stuff.

Re: Rumor has it, Chris Snee to retire tomorrow

Not surprised.  A while ago I read that his contract is worded in a very weird fashion.  The thinking is that the Giants did not expect him to play this season.;  At the same time they did not want to cut strings in an abrupt manner.  According to over the CAP, there is 1 mil guaranteed.  His total contract is valued at 2.55mm which means the Giants will gain 1.55mm in CAP space if he retires or is cut.

The source of the rumor is from someone who supposedly knows an attorney that represents several NFL players.  Garafolo saw the BBI rumor and followed up saying that there is a meeting between Snee and the Giants to discuss whether his body can make it.  For his sake, I hope he retires.  As it is he probably has one or more conditions that he will have to live with the rest of his life.

I think he will retire.  With the extra cap space, we can sign someone else if needed.  I have to reserve any judgment until we see how things look during camp.

If this is true, then I salute you the way I saluted Diehl, O'Hara, Seubert, and McKenzie before you for the best OL my Giants fanhood has ever seen by far .  I'm sure after time away from the game, Coughlin will hire you in this organization.

I agree 100%. I have the utmost respect for Snee. He was a great Giant!!

I live near where he grew up, and its pretty cool when I have to go to his elementary school and see the display they have set up for him. Its not often when a guy from NEPA makes it to the NFL

ALL IN, ALL THE TIME!!

Sad if he is retiring but understandable with some of his injury issues.  He gave a number of good years.  Can't really ask for more than that.

Channel 16 WNEP-TV Scranton/Wilkes Barre reported that today is the day that Snee will notify the Giants front office of his retirement.

If he can't perform effectively any more then it is the right thing to do. He had some great years and will be remembered as one of the great Giant OG's.

Now that he has officially retired I would also like to say that he and TC have separated their personal and professional relationships admirably.  There was never any hint of nepotism influencing decisions for or by either TC or Snee.  They are both true professionals. Kudos to both of them......

4 Pro Bowls, an All-Pro selection and winning two Super Bowls. Not bad. He worked out great for the Giants. Hope his health improves in retirement.

As for the starting RG spot, that is now a wide-open battle between Richburg, Jerry and Mosley. Have to think that Mosley is the front-runner but we'll see how camp goes. Jerry's health is a big question mark. Maybe they'll bring in someone else?

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

Have to wonder if that Flaherty article was a smoke screen stating how Richburg  wouldnt be included in the battle for a guard position and was just on the field with that group to be kept busy. The center position in NFL very complex and making the reads for linecalls isnt the best spot to put a rookie.

They should move Schwartz over to RG. No question about it.

Re: Rumor has it, Chris Snee to retire tomorrow

We all salute Snee for his efforts and accomplishments, that being said what was really known during the offseason this year in regards to his health might have changed the draft strategy. Had they really thought that Snee wasn't going to be able to make it this year should they have thought about Martin a little bit more? I think Mosley might have ended up as the answer at RG anyway but.... teaming Martin up with Pugh for the next 5-8 years might have been nice.

Keeping Snee around to help coach should have been the idea all along. There was plenty of OL beef in the draft that should have been considered just in case, unless we are comfortable with Charles Brown and John Jerry protecting Eli. Just saying..

Agreed. But, you cannot overhaul an entire O line in one offseason. And you should acknowledge that you have an issue with your front office if you find yourself in a situation where you need to.

According to the Giants' web site Chris has officially retired.  Elbow and hip injuries were simply too much to overcome.

Grerat player and a great Giant.  Thanks for all of your contributions to the team, Chris.
