Beason needs surgery - 12 week recovery

Kimberly Jones & #8207;@KimJonesSports 1m
NYG LB Jon Beason has sesamoid fracture in right foot. Surgery required. Expected 12 week recovery, according to someone aware of diagnosis.

12 weeks from now is Sept. 5th.  Giants first game is Sept 8th.  Could prove to have a silver lining in that someone is going to get a lot more work at MLB and the Giants have plenty of time to scheme around not having a MLB.

Here is a video that explains the injury

Un-freakin-believable. This was the one player on defense we couldn't afford to lose. Think about it, anyone else would have been more replaceable on defense than Beason. The backup MLB is Kennard and Herzlich. So far the Giants have Herzlich running third team MLB and that means that now its a rookie, that played DE and OLB in college, to be the Giants starting MLB. That is not good, not good at all.

Beason will not be ready for the season opener, let's face it. We're looking more at the second or third week for him to get back. You can't just play a football game with no practice and not being in football shape. This is why most people wanted more depth at LB but none was brought in. Beason is an injury-prone player so putting all their eggs in one basket was not smart.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

Re: Beason needs surgery - 12 week recovery

“The prognosis is X amount of time and it (the Sept. 8 opener) is within that timeframe,” Beason said today. “I expect to be back (for that game.)"

“We haven’t decided if it’s something that’s invasive or something that you just kind of let heal on its own. The timeframe is about the same, but it’s not season-ending, so I’m happy about that.”

The treatment options will be determined after Dr. Anderson examines Beason and consults with Dr. O’Malley. Anderson is the team orthopedist of the Carolina Panthers, for whom Beason played from 2007 until his trade to the Giants last Oct. 4. Anderson operated on Beason’s torn Achilles tendon in 2011.

“He knows my body,” Beason said. “I think the world of him. I was impartial to doing it here with Dr. O’Malley, but I think they wanted to make me feel comfortable to go down there and get a second opinion. He wants to do some more tests to determine what he thinks is best and then those two will sit down and figure out the best plan for me.

That sucks but it could've been worse.

It's actually good news.  12 weeks from mid June is much better than later dates.  As far as we know, the defense isn't changing like the offense so Beason should be ok.  Stationary bikes won't put him in football shape but it's not like he's done for 2014/15 either.

It's def not crushing......but it's certainly not great news either.    I'd figure Beason might be in football shape by mid-season.   I guess we'll see.
