Will hill waived!!!

Will hill waived!!!

Considering that the three other teams in our division need safety help there's a good chance will be facing him sometime in the near future.. The redskins had the second-worst record in the league there's good chance they claim him..

And the Redskins will still finish 4-12 and Will Hill will get suspended yet again next season. Good riddance.

Re: Will hill waived!!!

Sorry but I don't see any other nfl teams waving arguably their best defensive player from last yr because they got suspended.
Plus why are they waving him now before training camp even starts?

Why would they bring him to training camp if they are going to waive him anyway?  He would just take reps away from the guys who will actually play.

Plus by cutting him now, they don't have to pay him anything.  Not a huge sum, but always good to pick up additional cap space to sign other players who may be cut.

Re: Will hill waived!!!

He's been suspended THREE times and is one more toke away from a possible lifetime ban.    When is enough enough?   I realize he might get picked up by a rival and I realize he was a great player that the Giants could have used down the stretch.    Problem is you need to deal with the other players on your team who are being asked to live by the rules.   What message does it send when you keep putting up with this stupid crap?   I fully support the Giants in this.  Will Hill is a fine player but no one is above the team.   I don't give  a damn if pot is legal in half the states or not.   Your employer has a clear cut rule and you broke it three times.   Bye bye.   Maybe Will Hill will use this as the life lesson he needs to get his stuff together.   Would love nothing better than to see this young man turn his life around.   His current trajectory is not good.

+1 Can't sum it up any better than that JDub.

Re: Will hill waived!!!

I am somewhat surprised.  What this tells me is that the Giants do not think he can stay clean.  I do not see it as a form of punishment.  I see it as a result of their assessment of the situation. They probably made up their minds before the draft and did not want to waive him till the suspension became official.

It also may indicate that they are confident with the safety talent that currently is on the roster.

Well said!

I'll add that Hill has local connections that could possibly be a part of his ongoing drug issues. Perhaps a fresh start outside of his home area will help him stay straight. The Giants releasing him may be a blessing in disguise for the young man.

Going away to Florida was supposed to help with that issue?

then again, that's like a virgin walking into a brothel looking for the bathroom

I agree that this is not a 'punishment' Gordon.   It is a statement.  The statement is put the team first or play somewhere else.  Even the Giants front office (and almost every poster on this forum) is clear eyed enough to know that a player of Hill's talents will not be unemployed long.   Hence, I am under no illusion that they are 'punishing' Will Hill here.   To me this is much more a statement that if you want to wear Giants blue, you will conduct yourself in a professional manner.    That the Giants want strong willed, disciplined players who will perform in crunch time.   Right now, I don't think Will Hill fits that description, despite his obvious gifts.   My hope is that this will come back to benefit the team when they need to come together.   I hope Will turns it around...I just hope it is in the AFC.  :-D

Re: Will hill waived!!!

I understand the positions of those who agree with this move. I would have kept him and see where we are after 6 games. Hopefully Stevie Brown returns to his pre-injury form and we don't need him. Also, a bit concerned that the Giants are moving too far towards "character guys" -- it's the NFL and like it or not, you don't win with choirboys.

Re: Will hill waived!!!

JDub, we are on the same page.  Bottom line is that the Giants can not afford to have a starter losing 6 games and be on the threshold of losing a season or ending a career.  In essence, the Giants have learned the hard way that the more the talent a player has the more he must be reliable.

Character and durability comes before exceptional talent.  Consistency and dependability is all aspects of being a professional football player places coaches in a position to design and implement a winning system.

Character and durability comes before exceptional talent? What nonsense is this? You don't win games without exceptional talent!!
Guys are getting suspended all over the league, I don't see anyone else getting cut. Brandon Browner got suspended the first four games and the patriots signed him for big money. Why? Because he has exceptional talent.

Re: Will hill waived!!!

It comes down to the number of violations. The Giants did not going to cut a player that can help the team getting suspended for violating the substance abuse policy one time. Things happen.

When he is suspended a second time, they still did not cut him. I am sure they spoke to him and explained that he could be a major part of this team, but he has to get things together and be responsible about what goes in his body.

When it happens for a third time, you have to start thinking about the team. If you have a guy you are depending on who is consistently getting suspended, then you are essentially playing down one man. Other guys then have to be pushed into a situation that is not ideal, which only hurts the team. so forget about "choir boys" and "character guys"...the Giants need players who can stay on the field. It is no different than the team cutting someone who is always hurt and can never stay on the field (i.e. Baas).
