NYPost: Kenny Phillips has contract offer from Giants
Reportedly, the offer is not good enough for him to sign now and he will test free agency. The approach to Bennett is the same way the Giants are handling the majority of their 17 remaining unrestricted free agents – making modest offers to re-sign their own players. The team has expressed an interest in bringing back safety Kenny Phillips but, according to a source, it’s not enough of an offer to prompt Phillips to sign right now and he’s headed to the open market on March 12.

It's what we can do right now with the lack of $$ but also not over paying for injured & average.

Still need some more money from cuts (Diehl and Webster), extensions (Eli extending for a few more years at a lower rate, which means he can restructure more in the future), or restructuring (Snee, Rolle, Tuck).

Jets cut a boat load of salary Now the Cowdungs reworked a BUNCH.
What have we done? small potatoes
Rolle and Webster...need as well...BIG. If not...I say cut Webster because of his UNwillingness. Kiwi did at least one mil.
I'm also thinking that DD is gonna get the boot here soon.
There should be ZERO love for KP...I'm more worried..maybe to strong a word..but I hope he takes the modest deal...
But KP hasn't been watching the Combine! The DB squad was VERY athletic and a BOAT LOAD of that talent not seen in years. In my view...u don't want!...cya

Yeah not too fussed if Phillips is not resigned. I don't think he is that good. Smart player but just doesn't make any plays

RE: NYPost: Kenny Phillips has contract offer from Giants
Unless he can come at an extremely reasonable (cheap) price for a veteran player, I do not want the money spent on Phillips. I am one of the few here that has never been really impressed with him. His first couple of years he was mostly a training camp phenom who could never back it up on the field, or stay healthy. In the last couple of years he started to play better on the field, but still hasn't stayed healthy. Some guys are just prone to injury and he's one of them. Besides, safety is one of the few positions that the Giants have good depth right now and can afford to lose him.
Keep the money and spend it on a FA LB, DT and/or OL.
Good teams rely on their stars, Great teams rely on each other.

Re: NYPost: Kenny Phillips has contract offer from Giants
Solid but injury prone with the knee issue. I don't remember him being a real game changer or getting that cruicial stop when they needed it. More athleticism is needed from that position. I'll let him seek offers and if h comes back he should get a lower contract because so much money is already tied up at that position.

Giants fans seem to say this every year. Last two years, everyone was in love with what Philadelphia was doing in the off-season. I wonder what Giants fans would trade results? Cutting Canty and Bradshaw were substantial moves. Signing Beatty was a substantial move. I'm not sure what people are expecting? It is as though some people are holding Jerry Reese accountable for their off season boredom!

It is as though some people are holding Jerry Reese accountable for their off season boredom! The Giants can't do anything until March 12. Jenkins is technically not an Unrestricted Free Agent because he was cut and therefore is eligible to negotiate with other teams (even though he can't be signed until March 12. Negotiating with UFAs before March 12 is a violation of the CBA.

Lets be honest, the secondary was better with Stevie Brown, he made more plays in one season then Phillips have his entire career...JUST BEING HONEST and nothing against Phillips, I would love to see him comeback for the right price but he can't stay healthy and Stevie Brown makes more players and just fits Fewell's Cover-2 Better

When Tuck is good, he is very good. But the fact is, he didn't make plays last year. I've never understood why he is looked upon as a leader. When the team is struggling, he sits by himself with a detached, far-away look in his eyes. He doesn't seem to be any kind of leader except that the media flocks to him for interviews. I'm not sure why he was so unproductive last year. Explanations seem very vague. But there have to be reasons and the big questions is, can those reasons be fixed?

I'm not sure why he was so unproductive last year. Explanations seem very vague. But there have to be reasons and the big questions is, can those reasons be fixed? Honeslty, he hasn't been the same player since Strahan retired. Didn't he admit a year or two ago that his heart wasn't in it or he was down on himself for some reason? He definitely has a confidence issue, which is frustrating because he's supposed to be the veteran leader on the defensive line. But the fact is, Linval Joseph is becoming more of a leader than Tuck is and he's only 24 and played a few years in the league. I think Tuck is close to being done. Osi will exit this year, Tuck will probably be gone the next.

RE: NYPost: Kenny Phillips has contract offer from Giants
They really need to resign Kenny Phillips. Without him, one could make the argument that the Giants will need to spend an early draft pick on a safety.
The problem is, with the exception of Brown, the Giants don't have a safety who can provide quality pass defense. Will Hill might be more of an athlete than football player. It is well documented that Rolle gives up too many big plays in the passing game. He doesn't get interceptions and he never knocks down passes. In other words, if the Giants lose Kenny Phillips, they are left with only one quality pass defense safety. In Fewell's scheme (the 3 safety look), this is not enough. With Kenny Phillips out for most of the year, the Giants pass defense was second to last in the NFL.
If the Giants lose Kenny Phillips while retaining bad players like Corey Webster and Antrel Rolle, should we expect any improvement in 2013? Since the Giants don't have money to spend in free agency, they will need to make improvements through the draft. In my mock, I take CB Desmond Trufant in the first round. If the Giants don't resign Kenny Phillips, I think there is justification for taking a safety in round two.
Remember Joe Delaney

Stevie Brown had FAR MORE blown coverages than he had interceptions, and was at least partially responsible for Webster's bad year (not giving CWeb a pass, just being honest). The Giants defense gave up less points, less passing yards and less rushing yards with Phillips on the field than without..that is FACT. I like Brown, but neither he nor Hill have proven enough to be full time starters (especially with a 3 safety set) and rolle can't play both positions. Mark me down for wanting KP back MORE than Boothe and Bennett.

Interceptions are not overrated but how the interceptions come about can make someone look better than they really are. Some of those interceptions were thrown right to Stevie Brown. Kenny Phillips is a better safety than Brown. I want Phillips back.

Re: NYPost: Kenny Phillips has contract offer from Giants
sooner...here are the stats that support my point: With Kenny Phillips in the lineup this past season: Points per game allowed: 16.85 Rushing yards per game allowed: 112.85 Passing yards per game allowed: 226.7 Total yards per game allowed: 340 If the Giants had a full season with Phillips and averaged those numbers, they would have finished second in the league in points per game allowed. With Kenny Phillips out of the lineup this past season Points per game allowed: 25.1 Rushing yards per game allowed: 141.89 Passing yards per game allowed: 275.8 Total yards per game allowed: 417.11 From BigBlueView.com: "Without Phillips those rankings are: 30th in passing yards per game, 31st in rushing yards per game, and 27th in points per game." Giants record with KP, 2009-2012: W28-L13Giants record without KP, 2009-2012: W12-L15
