Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
Giants re-signed LT Will Beatty to a five-year, $38.75 million deal. The Newark Star-Ledger reports the deal includes $19 million guaranteed. It's a nice haul for a player who finally stayed healthy last season after missing 14 combined games between 2010-11. Three days shy of his 28th birthday, Beatty allowed just three sacks and 22 hurries in 967 snaps last season. He was never expected to reach free agency.
If he can stay healthy we have our LT for years to come which is really nice news.
Who is expecting DD to hit the chopping block SOON???

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
The beginning of the end to the Jerry Reach error, twenty extra large for a player who only started a season and one half, injured every one of those years....once again... we find Reach betting against himself, the first re-signing of his draftees, and half the money is guaranteed...hash tag Clueless.

RE: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
stewie
never been a big Beatty fan as many of us forget that he is /was injury prone. But not sure where else you can go with the OL with so many holes. Go draft and pray? FA and pay the same amount?
I agree that its a risk but based on the status of the OL....Beatty had us at hello.

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
If a slightly above average tackle like Beatty (I say that because he can never stay healthy) can pull down $40 million, with half of it guaranteed, imagine what a guy like Jonathan Ogden could have pulled down in today's market? They'd have to give him a $150 million contract. Insane...

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
GOod news. One of the guys on the team that has been reliable. Seems like he got what is generally a solid starter's contract. I wonder how much of that is going to hit this year's cap number.........
Seems like this should get us closer to some action on the DD front.
I also wonder what this meanns for Boothe........

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing to me how so many Giant fans just don't realize how good Beatty is. He was a shutdown OLT last year that never needed help with any speed rushers. Plus, he was a vastly improved run blocker as well. Beatty was certainly one of the best, if not the best, offensive players on the Giants last year.
On the open market, he would have received top dollars. Good OLTs don't grow on trees and the Giants have one of the league's best locked up for years to come. Good job Giants.

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree Beatty is a very good pass blocker, but I still believe he leaves a lot to be desired as a run-blocker. I agree with keeping him, but that price is VERY steep.

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
Good one Rich, Reach finished second (to a Bangkok prostitute) in playing hard to get - The master negotiator once against proves, he will not be out bid for a player he likes...even if he is the only one doing the bidding. Lets compare Recent contracts. Duane Brown, PB LT for the Texans, signs a 7 year 56 plus 12 signing bonus...22 of which is guaranteed...Brown started 60 games in four years, Beatty started 31 games in four years...I don't get it...where is Beatty going to go? there isn't a single GM in Football stupid enough to give William Beatty the contract which he received, and FA hasn't even started. http://www.rotoworld.com/playe...852/duane-brown

RE: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
If Boothe gets signed then DD won't last till the ink dries.
This still leaves holes on OL
RT & Center(have to draft one to keep on the blocks for Baas is GONE next year and with this signing of Beatty it won't leave much room to FA sign a Center...WE DRAFT ONE.
Extra money is now spent on Cruz and JPP....crap forgot about Nicks

Phil loadholt..next question which teams are knocking down William Beatty's door? answer...none next question...William Beatty one of the top LT in the NFL? answer...whatever, if you remove holding from the equation, he is OK, great feet, weak upper body, and poor hand placement, likes to go up against dancers, got immense help from Boothe, who bye the way had zero holding penalties and allowed one sack...next question This is the same panic negotiating style which landed Corey Webster, Eli Manning, Chris Canty, and Antrelle Rolle in the millionaire boys club, players whose salary out- weight their performance. You want to know why Giants are always scrambling to find holes in their cap, to sign even marginal players...here is why. One year starter, made the highest paid Offensive Lineman in Giants history (yearly salary) Beatty accomplishments...scoring high on PFF's scale...which doesn't believe penalties mean anything when grading Offensive linemen.

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
If he stays healthy its a good deal. Its the nfl so health is always a large concern. Hope its not another one of those contracts well be regretting in a couple years. Interested to see how the money is distribite over the five years.

Beatty's agent is probably dancing in the streets right now. Actually, JR is probably a sports agent's dream come true. He overpays every time.

Reach...we want to offer William, 30 over 4 years, 10 bonus, with 10 solid. Beatty Agent...that sounds great Jerry, we can work with that ! Reach...OK OK, this is my final offer...38.8 over 5, 12 bonus and 19 solid in the bank, but you have to sign today, we don't want any other teams getting a chance to but William through any physicals. Beatty Agent...you drive a hard bargin Jerry ! Reach...don't let Victor Cruz find out, he want's big money...JR don't swing that way....

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
stewie, 1. Phil Loadholt is a RT, not a LT. 2. Do you not like Jerry Reese? That is a reasonable deal for Beatty who has done a tremendous job protecting Eli Manning's blindside. I think when FA start and we see some of the deals being done for left tackles, Beatty will be a bargain. When you look at today's NFL contracts, you have to look at the guaranteed money. $19 million guaranteed for Beatty is fair for both sides, IMO. Glad to see the Giants already locked up there top priority UFA. Cruz is there top priority RFA.

Glad to see the Giants already locked up there top priority UFA. Cruz is there top priority RFA. Loadholt is a RT because the Vikings Drafted Kalil, and before him. McKinnie was a star - until getting fat - Loadholt 6' 8" with good feet, nasty temperament, will cost you 3 million less a season because he was a RT....I believe...he has started on the Left-side due to injury...younger (27) never missed a game....better Offensive Lineman Resume.... Eddy, how much is Hanlon kicking back this year Beatty 28, in year three of this contract, (the same slackjaws )screaming for the Giants to get younger, and applauding this deal...will be bending over and grabbing their cankles over this signing. Great response WASP ! only you would relate constipation with reasoning

Re: Major Beatty News!!!!!!!!!!!
You're right, stewie! Today is a terrible day in Giant land. They should've let Will Beatty walk into free agency where he would've gotten more guaranteed money. Pro Football Focus @ PFF 5 hrs Only 8 OTs allowed fewer total pressures than Beatty last season and none allowed their QB to hit the deck fewer times than he did (sk+hit) LINK Jerry Reese is stupid for locking up this guy and I'm sure Eli Manning is pissed the heck off right now, stewy.
