Re: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next
I think Dottino overreacts a little bit. The Giants aren't in an ideal cap situation, but they are only a few additional cuts away from opening more cap room. Moreover, when we talk about possible cuts -- Rolle, Webster, and Diehl -- we aren't talking about valuable players. All three players pretty much suck. Webster was once a very good player, but he isn't the same guy.
The Giants got rid of Boley but he sucks. Canty was OK, but has health issues, and never lived up to his contract. Bradshaw will never stay healthy. So, the Giants didn't lose very much. . . .
Take a chill pill, Dottino.

Only thing going for Rolle is that he didn't get injured last season like Webster and Diehl did.

Honestly, I would LOVE to see a bunch of these guys go. Some of the coaches too. Starting with Fewell. If we performed in such pathetic fashion at our jobs like these bozos did for the second half of the season, we'd be fired. I have NO sympathy. There was no heart at all in these guys. Sorry.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
I think he got those names from our board.
Not like nobody didn't already speculate this was coming...He just gets paid to say the same things we've been saying for over a month.
If you need a story to write about...all the info you need is already broken down.
You ain't kidding about being canned if we don't perform...these days there's 200 applications for you job...
One of which is mine...got laid off a week before xmas..DAMN...need a job quick...anyone have a connection in LA?
THANK YOU on the last question of the program. It's EXACTLY what I said...any thread..NFL post.. any person who thinks otherwise... NO FLAG and with the same exact reason I saw and commented about. One thing's for sure..and he's right...with cap space limited..unless a FA is out of work after the "gates" open..we're not gonna sign anyone with a name for a need position because we cut players that are/were overpaid. If we do..that money is gonna come from another that WILL be cut. We know Eli has already done it...so he's out of the equation. Cruz will get a tender with Nicks getting the money that is available. Same thing happened last year when we signed Kiwi before ponying up cash for Osi. It sends a message. Is Tynes worth 1.5 mil? No..because he can't hit'em over 40s..time to bring in a kid.
Those draft picks MUST be immediate impact players from the word go because of the tight money situation. Sign them low..get rid of the dead weight of others. Expect the same from JR & Co....out of left field picks no one saw coming....Stoney brought up this fact earlier today on the Teo thread. I'm having a heart attack about this crap.

Until Beatty and Boothe resign, I think Diehl sticks around as an insurance policy. Cutting Webster now leaves the Giants very thin at CB. Rolle is too valuable to Fewell to be cut. He's a restructuring candidate.

Restructure Rolle, yes. Not Webster. They can get someone off the scrap heap for 1/10 of Webster's salary to suck. Not sure about you, but I don't feel the need to pay $7MM for dog **** when I can get it for $700K.

suburbanites wrote: I think when all is said and done Webster and Rolle restructure and Diehl goes. I would be ok with this scenario. I still think Rolle is mis-cast in this system.....but I can live with him at a reduced salary. I think Webster could be past his prime.....but at a reduced salary and coming into the season healthy, he could be an asset. I don't feel like we need to keep Diehl around. I feel like we can scour the FA market for an affordable backup G/T. Seems like there are going to be a lot of guys out there in the FA market. Hold on to your hats....could be an active off-season.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
Diehl will be gone...he just can't be cut until Beatty's deal is finalized. If something happens and Beatty is not resigned, they will need to keep Diehl around.
Rolle will be kept and restructured (assuming he doesn't balk at that). He is a valuable piece when used properly.
I keep going back and forth on Webster. He should not be paid like a top corner, but he does know the system and, if Prince can take the next step and defend the other teams top WR, then Webster could be valuable at a much reduced price.

Re: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next
Well things are def getting interesting. I think dhiel is gonna get cut. I also think they will ask both c web and rolle to restructure. Some of this new cap space clearly is going to go trying to hold onto nicks, Cruz, Bennett but I can see them trying to restructure or release dhiel and Webster to try and sign a couple of impact free agents too, Who won't break the bank, to replace them. (b. Moore/ maybe even Talib with some of websters money )
At the end of the day, Webster just makes too much money for his play. If the giants cut those other players I just do not see them visualizing 7 million for c web being financially prudent. Just my opinion, as well as many others, but I so see a restructure or cut and using his money for a replacement as imminent.

Re: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next
Beatty will be resigned because he will be Franchised.
Restructuring contracts only delays the cap hit until the following year. So if the Giants are indeed looking to clean house of their aging vets, restructuring isn't the answer.

Like with Webster. They can find an OLineman off the scrap heap who is just as bad as Diehl for a lot less money.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
yea i know restructuring just stretches out the years on contract and delays hit....and i am fine with that for one or two of that group remaining (tuck, webster, rolle) I think dhiel is gonna be cut. Of those other 3 i am fine keeping 1 or 2 of them around with a restructure for some leadership and for the fact that tuck/rolle were not completely useless. i amy be wrong but i doubt we go ahead and cut the 3 we already did and flat out cut tuck, rolle, c. web, and dhiel.

What are the numbers if Rolle, Webster and Diehl are cut?
What is the cap saving and what is the dead money?

Eddie:
Webster - I believe around 9 million Diel - Pushing 4.5 Rolle - Around 7 million
Diel is an obvious choice. I believe the others are likely restructure candidates although if we have a viable replacement for Webster, that would be tempting.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
Tuck isn't going anywhere...let's get that straight. He is banged up though and that has reduced his overall play...but he's not over the hill.............................yet
Diehl..we know is toast. Webster was bad from the first game....so that $7 mil is wayyyyyy to much.
It's Friday...so if a cut is coming...should have been done. Expect news Monday afternoon or Tuesday on next one gone.
Not much time before combine...so the board is building.
I'm on board with X. Rhodes as #1 or Warmack if he's still around. DJ Fluker as #2. If any OL player is taken as 1/2....Diehl is certainly gone.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
Keeping Diehl around for anything more then his cap if relased is a dumb idea. More then $3 million to crap it up on the field? Sorry, I don't think so. Webster shoul be cut and then brought back for less money, more as depth move then anything else. Its about time to sit him on the bench like they did back in 2007. Maybe he rebounds and maybe he doesn't. But it will be for less money for 1 year. And Rolle needs to take a pay cut. he's been overpaid since he arrived.

RE: Dottino speculates that Rolle Webster Diehl could be next cu
You can't just cut guys and not have a replacement on the board either in the draft or FA. We just have too many holes to fill and too much $$$ that was pushed forward AND too many current players that need to be resigned
It's a perfect storm for JR and he needs to handle this like a rock star not to be set back years as a team.
Diehl is replaceable by our backups like Brewer...even if he isn't as good.
Rolle- not sure unless we have a FA in mind or think Hill and Stevie are next years starters.
Webster- we are too think at CB already with the often injured Prince and Holesly. again FA?
We shall see JR earns his pay

They can cut him and easily sign someone with similar ability for A LOT less money. They can't keep him at his salary just because they do not CURRENTLY have depth at the position.
