Cap Room Saved After Cuts

Cap Room Saved After Cuts

By releasing Bradshaw, the Giants open up $2.5 million in cap space.

By releasing Canty, the Giants open up $6 million in cap space.

By releasing Boley, the Giants open up $4.250 million in cap space.

TOTAL: $12,750,000.  So, the Giants free up $12.750 million in cap space after the cuts.

If there are more cuts, I'll change the TOTAL.

Take note: the Giants must feel that Bradshaw's feet are shot, because they don't save all that much in cap space by releasing him.

Bradshaw: http://mobile.spotrac.com/nfl/...ahmad-bradshaw/

Canty: http://mobile.spotrac.com/nfl/...ts/chris-canty/

Boley: http://mobile.spotrac.com/nfl/.../michael-boley/

I'm surprised the Giants haven't cut T.Thomas yet.

Thanks for this thread. I'll look forward to updates.

Think this means a deal with Beatty and/or Cruz is imminent?

When can the Giants sign their own FA's and specifically their own UFA's???

RE: Cap Room Saved After Cuts

They're young Beatty and Cruz...

One thing's for sure...

We're drafting DEFENSE! First round...second round
anyone thing otherwise after the first cuts.

We already have enough RBs as mentioned.
Boley and Canty are cap generated for D.
We're gonna need and END for sure...so that's
already a given now and since our interior DL
run stopping stunk...a Tackle as well.

How much is Corey Webster worth? If it's more than a box of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, I say we cut him - since QB's snack on him anyway.

Releasing Webster would open up at least 7 million, but I don't know if it would open up more than that.  I can't figure out if the Misc. Bonus counts as guaranteed money: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new.../corey-webster/

$2.5 + $6 + $4.25 = $12.75, right?  Maybe I don't know the Cap Math?

Thanks for the correction--12.75 million is correct.  I'll change the total in my post.

Re: Cap Room Saved After Cuts

The moves were necessary for the Giants, who were over the projected salary cap for the 2013 NFL season. Cutting Canty saved them $6.5 million in cap space. Cutting Bradshaw saved them $2.75 million. And with the $4.5 million they saved by cutting Boley, they got themselves under the projected cap with a  little room to spare by clearing $13.75 million off their books. LINK

Giants cleared $13.75 million in cap space!

Awesome, I'm pretty happy that my numbers (once they were corrected by Ye) were pretty close to the actual caps savings.

Re: Cap Room Saved After Cuts

The Giants are now under, but not by a huge amount and they still need to tender Cruz and Stevie Brown, as well as resign Beatty.  So, I would expect another few cuts, along with a few restructures.

They still won't have the resources to sign a top free agent.  But I'm hopeful they can add a pretty good free agent, like a Daryl Smith for example.

Sage: I believe the Misc. Bonus does not count as guaranteed money... Only the signing bonus.

RE: Cap Room Saved After Cuts

Hell...Canty was due $250k...for working out!

I pay $30 per month at LA Fitness...I guess
he'll have to sign up to then.

#1 scenario:
Until Beatty gets signed...Diehl isn't cut.
Once signed..then he's toast.

#2 scenario:
#1 pick Rhodes
Webster is toast.

#3 scenario...and this took just a wee bit longer.
Since AB was cut and our OL stunk to open up holes.
Our run game was pathetic..but AB was hurt and Brown as well...STILL
we couldn't convert 3rd and short and also several 4th downs..cost us
at least one if not 3 games..THEREFORE and some of us have said so.
JR spent our #1 on Wilson..THE FUTURE IS NOW!
In order to "support" that pick...we NEED/MUST...have MAULERS to
make that pick and "future" run game effective.

So...We know 2 things for sure...we're gonna doraft HIGH for OL
and DT..this is a given...but the #2 scenario..still is in play here if
Rhodes is still available when at 19..if that happens as I mentioned
above...Webster is gone...savings another 7Mil

Webster can go for the 7MM. Anyone is better at this point.

They will not cut Webster. They will restructure his contract to be 7 cents.
That still may be to much of a salary for our cap.

I think Cruz and Stevie Brown receive first round tenders, meaning that the Giants will spend around 6 million on both players (around 3 million each).

Beatty will be an expensive player to retain.  The Giants will use the franchise tag on him if they don't resign him prior to free agency.  The franchise tag is around 15 million for offensive tackles and so the Giants will eventually need to work out a long term deal with Beatty.  Beatty will take up a lot of cap space, but he plays a huge role in keeping Eli clean.

The miscellaneous bonuses are for things like work-out bonuses, possibly incentive bonuses.  So, if they are cut before the workouts start, that money is not going to count against the cap.

Cruz, Nicks, Pierre-Paul all need to be signed next year.  I wouldn't bank on Stevie Brown getting a huge deal.  Yes, he had the interceptions, but was very inconsistent.    Beatty? not worth big money.  he is very replaceable.

All restructuring will do is lengthen his deal and mess up the cap down the line.  He is not worth it.

Diehl is gone regardless.  They can bring in someone at less than half the price to be as affective as he played.  Again, not understanding the love affair with Beatty.
