NFT: My Dad...Long Time Giant Fan...Passed Away last weekend

Hello Everyone,
The Big Blue Fan Base lost one of its longest-tenured fans this past weekend.  My Dad Owen passed away at the age of 83.   My Dad loved the Giants and was lucky enough to attend 'the Greatest Game Ever Played' against the Colts and unlucky enough to be at the Miracle at the Meadowlands game many years later.   I owe my own life-long love affair with the team to this man as he patiently sat with me and explained then game some 35 years ago when I started to take an interest.  We spent many-a-Sunday in my North Jersey home screaming at the TV as the likes of Craig Morton, Bob Tucker, Phil Simms, and Lawrence Taylor played their hearts out.  Like many of you on this board, my Dad has been pining for the Giants to upgrade their offensive line with some young road-graders for the past two seasons.   Therefore if Luke Joeckel or Jake Matthews fall to us at 19, I will know that Odie made it happen.

God Bless all and for those whose Dads are still with us, give 'em a big hug.

--Jim

Jim,

I'm sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family.  Thanks for sharing your fathers passion for the Giants and how you spent many Sunday's watching/yelling at the TV with your old man.  That's what's it all about!

God bless!

My condolences to you and your family Jim. I'm lucky enough to still have my dad with me to yell at the TV with. And if your dad's anything like mine, he's shaking Wellington Mara's hand and giving George Young an earful over the hiring of Ray Handley...

I'm sorry for your loss.

Any Giants fan has my respect, and your dad certainly does. I hope he gets the offensive linemen he wanted, because I agree with that need.

Jdub, sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Easy to type but hard to do, always take time each day to remember a good time enjoyed by you and your dad. I like other posts here deal with a loss, for about a year now with the passing of my dad. But paramount is the sun does rise each day and others depend on your guidance and wisdom. The circle of life....

Thanks to all of you for the words of support and wisdom. It is most definitely a surreal and sad time. What's funny is I don't think his loss will truly kick in until I want to talk with him after the first Giants game next year. That is going to be strange but time marches on. Thanks again everyone.

I haven't lost either of my parents, but I remember when my grandfather died in 1992 and the first time I went to their house that summer to cut the lawn for my grandma and I kept expecting to see him walk outside. Hard to adjust to.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

JDub.... I"m sorry that I'm late to this thread, but I want to express my sincere blessings to you and your family.  It's times like this when we hope that the fond memories of a life shared can eventually replace the pain of the loss...

My condolences to you and your family JDub19. My father passed on January 28, 2007, him being a Jets fan had everything to do with me becoming a Giants fan at age six. He took me to many Jets and Giants games in my youth and win or lose we always had great time. One of my favorite memories is going to Shea on a snowy sunday when I was15 and watching OJ break Jim Brown's 10 yr old single season rushing record, he bought me a Jets cap at the game as a joke and I still have it.
God speed.

I am so sorry for your loss. As I read this I got sad thinking of my own departed dad, and the good times we had at the stadium and at home cheering on our Giants.  Its been nearly 15 years for me, and I still miss him every day and get sad sometimes.  I wish you and yours peace and I thank you for helping me remember some amazing times with my own dad.  all the best!
