Giants Mock Draft

Giants Mock Draft

What they should do...

This scenarios calls for a trade down to the 23-26 range acquiring an additional 2nd round pick.

Scenario:

Rd 1: Kevin Minter (ILB LSU)
Rd 2: Larry Worford (OG Kentucky)
Rd 2: Sylvester Williams DT (UNC) / Datone Jones (DE UCLA)
Rd 3: David Amerson (CB NC St)
Rd 4: Alvin Bailey (OG Arkansas)
Rd 5: Jelani Jenkins (OLB FLA)

This draft can go in a lot of directions.. But I would be very happy with this.

Re: Giants Mock Draft

Unless a Chandler Jones or JPP type DE is available at 19, a trade down is a good idea.  They can pick up a ILB later in the first round, maybe even with one of the last picks in the first round.  In the meantime, an additional second round pick would help fill some of the holes.

A couple of dominant defensive players went in the second round last year: Wagner (MLB) and Heyward (CB).

I like the idea but your probably not gonna get a 2nd rounder for moving back a couple of spots. Last year TB traded the #36 and #101  to Denver for the #31 and 126th pick.

It is somewhat wishful thinking for the 23-25 slots...  But 26 - to the end of Rd 1, I dont think it is too far fetched.  Big difference between pick 19 and pick 31!

I would even trade down for a 3rd round selection.. Unless a couple specific players fall..  Sheldon Richardson, Chance Warmack, maybe Alec Ogletree...  I think Cooper or Minter should be our target for late Rd 1 to add the additional 2nd or 3rd Rd selection.

RE: Giants Mock Draft

I like trades as 4th rounders and beyond don't usually pan out.Last year I was riding high after the Super Bowl win and wanted to trade up to get Luke K. that rookie MLB for the Panthers. I kind of wish we did, he led the league in total tackles as rookie, had 2 ints, 1 sack and 8 passes defended. His tackle numbers might be a bit bloated since the Panthers are kind of weak up front, but he would have held down the MLB for many years.

Although, he ended up being drafted at #9 and would have cost an arm and a leg.

Trading down is an option only if (1) there isn't a player currently available that the Giants covet; and (2) a team wants to trade up to the Giants' spot.

Teams have no mechanisms to announce that they want to "trade down" to every other team.

In recent memory have the Giants ever traded down in the draft?

Doesnt this go without saying?

Chances are there will be opportunities to trade down to the back end of Rd 1.

Yes, when we drafted Kiwanuka.

True, but Reese wasn't the GM at the time.  Reese has never traded down in the first round.

The Kiwaanuka trade down didn't accomplish very much.  I think the Giants used the extra pick to move up for WR S. Moss.  Moreover, Kiwanuka hasn't exactly set the world on fire either.

Well they keep playing Kiwanuka at LB when its clear he's a DE.  Maybe he'll have a resurgance this coming year because he'll be back at his natural position of DE.

As for Reese not trading down in the 1st round, maybe its because he hasn't gotten
any good offers.  The Giants had drafted last in the 1st round in 2 of the seasons he has been GM.  Maybe now that they are at #19, they can get better offers.

Forget it...after getting JPP @ 15
he'll be looking for a similar
home run.

Re: Giants Mock Draft

I wouldn't mind something like:

1. DE - Ansah - BYU
2. CB - Trufant - Wash or S- Williams - GA
3. OT - Long - Oregon
4. LB - Thomas - Stanford or LB - Johnson - ALA
5. WR - Mathews - Vandy or CB - Gratz - Connecticut
