Reports are that Chip Kelly of Oregon will coach the Eagles

Reports are that Chip Kelly of Oregon will coach the Eagles

As a Ducks fan, this is very bad news. It will hurt the Ducks quite a bit.  As a Giants fan, I am also nervous. If he can duplicate his college success at the Eagles, it is going to be bad for the Giants.  I am interested to see what he does in the NFL.

RGIII, Jerry World, Chip Kelly...the NFCE will be awfully interesting the next few years.

Lou Holtz , Nick Saban .... to name a few .

Not any successful College coach can make it in the NFL.

Time will tell with Chip Kelly noidea

Great, another gimmicky offense the Giants need to deal with 2 times a year. Bill Belicheck has applied Chip Kelly's offense to the NFL, so its going to be interesting to see how well Chip does. Desean Jackson going to be a pain to cover even more now. And a hurry up offense is going to limit what the Giants can do defensivelt, so the secondary is going to have to be spot on in these games.

Chip got "Out of Dodge" with the Nazi NCAA on his tail. Just like the other carpetbagger Pete Carroll.

The Eagles have away to go but I do believe that the team was in disarray last year and had given up, even though they still managed to beat us .
2013 is shaping up as a very interesting year , we could be in heaven or we could be in hell with that dammed elusive NFC East title open to all.

I too am uneasy at Chip Kelly's hiring. As much regular season success Reid had against us, I could (almost) "count" on his team messing up in the playoffs--which brought me some consulation when the Gmen weren't good enough to do it themselves.

That being written, this is a copycat league.  Somewhere, somehow, some Defensive Coordinator is going to find the "scheme" that can beat this spreading college-option type offense infesting the league.  Remember when the Bill's COULDN'T be beaten?  Some guy named Belichek (spelling?) DARED to play a Superbowl against them using only 2 down linemen & flooding the secondary.  It worked enough for the Giants to squeak out their 2nd SB victory.  DC's all over the league took notice, and while the Bills still won many more games, well you know the rest.

I think our present DC is much easier to "like" as a human being over BB (hell, a troll would be--no insult to PF) but if he can't figure out RGIII, Wilson, Colin K, and whatever Chip Kelly throws at us, I hope he's studying film when someone else solves the puzzle.

The spread option-read is just an offensive evolution.  Its easy to beat on paper, just fool the read.  Not so easy to do come gametime. If the read is not fooled, its very easy to beat on paper, just beat the downfield blocks and whatever you do, NEVER have the LBs crash the line.  If it is employed, the better personnel packages can beat it.  What Kelly does that makes him successful is not the option, its the relentless pace of his offense, the incredible complexity for a "hurry up" offense and the incredible down field blocking.  Plus he has shown that speed beats size, and when he gets both, its fun to watch.  I just can't wait for a big sign on the Eagles sideline with pictures of John Madden, the Pink Panther, George Bush and the Hindenberg being the play call.

Its nothing like Pete Carroll.  The Ducks have a minor infraction which probably will be a big fine and the loss of a few scholarships.  He was not getting suspended like Pete was.

RE: Reports are that Chip Kelly of Oregon will coach the Eagles

On the READ...they pass a lot to
the TE on in-Seams. They also
pass mostly to the right on the Oregon
offense.

Look at the Stanford game and you'll see
how the Ducks got locked down on offense.

This is why I had mentioned on another thread
that our next coach should be from Stanford.

We're already lousy at game changing to match
the plays...we need..coaches need to CHANGE on the fly.

NOW...especially NOW..it'll be more important.

Our DRAFT picks will be..MUST be NOW impact players
and SPEED will be of utmost importance.

Re: Reports are that Chip Kelly of Oregon will coach the Eagles

I heard a conversation on ESPN  Kelly while at Oregon scored a whole lot of points on  the new DC for Dallas Monte Kiffin, I guess Kiffin might come out ahead now as he has a better roster than Kelly has to work with.
I'm surprised Dallas went with someone 73 years old , no matter how Young at heart he is,  NFL with it's incessant workload  can wear out even the most well condition coaches.
Obviously not talking about Fat  Rex or Andy Reid when it comes to conditioned coaches.

So Chip is going to get the Eagles to rush to the line of scrimmage ,play after play while Reid could barely get them to run 2 play in 2 minutes..and DeSean is going to run down the field ,,,I dont see it

To add to this, Chip Kelly has the numbers on his side. By forgoing punting he is giving his team the best chance to score the most points.

As a giants fan I am nervous about Kelly joining the division because I want to root for him (punting is way overrated, hurry up offenses not used enough, etc), but its the eagles and I cant root for the Eagles.

This will be the most interesting division in football.

Well.....I'm not sure he's going to get away with not punting in the NFL.....but I could see how his system could be successful.

Of course....part of the challenge is that the talent pool is much more even than it is at the college level.   He's not going to be able to take advantage of that part of the inequity that he can take advantage of on the college side.    Regardless.....if he has a QB that he can trust to run the system and threaten the D with the pass, it will potentially be a handful.

I think it's an interesting signing......if it fails....they can move on in 3 years or sooner.   I give them credit for looking outside of the box.

Very happy about this move.

Early guess (I will bet 10 mexican pesos if someone gives me 100 to 1 odds)

Three Eagles QBs in 2013

Vick
Tebow
EJ Manuel (Fl State, 6'4, 4.6 40).
----------------------------------------------------------Let's party like it's 2004 2005  2000

The Eagles have got themselves one of the best college football coaches to become there next head coach.

Time will tell if it is a good move or not and I think it's absurd to predict his teams will be tough to defend or on the other end he will be a disaster.

The good thing OER, is that a peso is worth like 8 cents, so you're not going to lose that much.
1. Why would they bring back Vick for $15 mil, when he's
a. too stupid to run Kelly's O.
b. only going to play for somewhere around 12 games if he starts anyway.
c. already been outplayed by Foles last season.
-and-
d. a turnover machine, when Kelly supposedly hates turnovers more than anything, and is on record praising Nick Foles pretty highly.
2. Tebow???? You're kidding. Right?
3. Why waste a draft pick on a QB again, when there are so many other more important needs to address this year?
The more that I read about Kelly, the more I'm beginning to like hiring him too. As long as it doesn't involve keeping Vick around, to turn the ball over to our opponents 20-30 times a year for $15 mil.

He will be much more of a Greg Easterbrook punting type of coach. He is a big believer in math.  Check out http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=ea sterbrookpreview/070904

He believes that if his offense averages 4 yards per play and its 3rd and less than 4, it makes no sense to punt anywhere past your own 40.  If its less than 2, he brings that back to his own 30.  A few times he has gone for it inside his own 20, but only against teams whose defense he does not respect.  He might not make a few. But Easterbrooks stats suggest that going for it in these circumstances will result in about 1 more win per year on a 16 game schedule.  Its interesting, and I would like to see it in practice because we all know computers do not always predict things, but it will be fun to see someone actually try it out in the NFL to see if those computers are right.
