And THIS is why . . .

And THIS is why . . .

even though Peyton may be the best regular season QB of all time almost all of us would rather have Eli when it comes to a playoff game.

If postseason Eli mixed with regular season Peyton, then they'd be the best QB ever to play in the NFL.

I said this 4-5 years ago, and it still holds true

I thought they lost because the safety forgot how to play football and Peyton tried to be a hero when he should have thrown it away. Shows how little I know! :O

.....pretty bad loss for the Broncos yesterday.    Pretty embarrassing to get toasted late on a deep pass like that.   Helluva throw by Flacco.......that's taking advantage of that Denver air.

It's amazing how little Peyton threw the ball downfield.    I think that was their MO during most of the season....but.....wow.

I guess we have to take our loss to the Ravens with a little more of a grain of salt.    Damn I hate our schedule.

Why isn't people talking about the game changing interception thrown that Manning made that kill any chance of the Bronco's winning the game. If Peyton had a few more first down, Prater would have kick the field goal and Denver Broncos win.

It it wasn't for Trindon Holliday 2 TD's on Special Teams, that game is not even close!

Re: And THIS is why . . .

That loss had little to do with Peyton per se, because he had avery good game, moreover I feel there was just too much Kapernack for Denver to deal with. Denver had no answer for him. I do not care what anyone says I feel the non athletic pocket passing QB's will eventually pass the baton on to the Robert Griffins, Wilsons, Andrew Lucks of the NFL. I do not think you can get away with being a passer anymore in this league, mainly because defenders are just too strong, powerful and fast for a QB to be a stationary target. The Mannings of the league eventually will be nothing more than target practice especially as they age. coolcoolcool

Re: And THIS is why . . .

What's the phrase: Victory has many fathers; defeat is an orphan?

In this case, as in most NFL games, defeat has as many sires, unwilling
as they may be to own it, as any victory.

Peyton fits the bill, but would have escaped most popular scrutiny if some
of the other "dads" had not contributed so much.  John Fox set new standards for the "Cowardly Lion's Offense" so favored with a game winding down by most NFL coaches (Mike Smith got away with it in Atlanta today, thanks to some near-miraculous late work by Matt Ryan and Co; TC got away with it in Green Bay during the first magic run, refusing to take any chances to give Tynes better field position, luckily having Green Bay keep giving the ball back; Kelly of Notre Dame got away with it a ton this good and lucky season).  Alas, sometimes you pay the piper.
My focus is on the two awful non-calls that set a tone for the game early: if the obvious and blatant pass interference is called on the Raven's intercept and TD, Denver still has a drive going, with the Ravens showing no signs of stopping them. That flagrant non-call was HUGE: stop the Broncs, give the Ravens the cheater's six.  And then made worse in the following drive when there's a long ball to Raven's five yard line, two guys go down in a heap, and the call is "incidental contact" - replay clearly showed Raven defender extending leg for a deliberate trip.
Broncs still scored on drive, but needed seven or eight more plays to do it.

IF those calls are made, momentum may have been all Broncs going into second quarter, with score 14 or 17 or 21-7, their favor.  So, long after replacement referees replaced, officiating still straight outta Clown College.

Not saying Broncs woulda won with those calls; just that Ravens woulda had a much more serious hill to climb, and the many goats on the Denver side may not have been in position to be same, including Peyton, who did a ton of good things yesterday - enough to win most games with a competent head coach, and something more than sandlot scrub brains in the d-backfield.

But the OP's point is well-taken: amazing how ordinary Eli is, body of work, regular
season, how extraordinary big brother.

Exactly. The Denver had statistically the best season as far as offense and defense in the regular season but it didn't matter in the playoff. That game could easily been a blowout. Peyton had a poor game.

Someone said it the best. If we combine Peyton with Eli, we have the best quarterback in the history. Peyton is the best regular season QB when there isn't a lot of pressure situation. Eli is one of the top clutch QB in the playoffs. He is the coolest QB in the league.

Re: And THIS is why . . .

Well if Peyton choked in the post season after putting up a fantastic regular season, I guess Eli came up short with yet another mediocre 9-7 record huh?

Or am I gonna have to hear about how its a team game when it comes to Eli and that the WRs drop too many passes and the OL doesnt block and the RB fumbles too much?  Am I gonna have to hear about how Eli played on a new team, with a new system, new coach, new no-name WRs, no running game....oh wait that's Peyton nevermind.

There's nothing more pathetic than having to downgrade someone else just for the sole purpose of making your own guy look better.  Celebrate Eli for what he is.  Don't have to downgrade a great QB to award Eli some watered down honor.  Furthermore, all the people who claim to be sick and tired of Eli getting compared to other elite QBs seem to have no problem doing just that when it suits them.

Fox has always been conservative, which is why he fizzled in Caroling. But, that last interception tossed by Peyton was nothing short of feeble.

Yeah and if not for Desmond Howard, Brett Favre NEVER wins a Superbowl.

Great logic Cashus, forget that all three elements are a part of the game.

Bottom line, the Broncos were up 7 with 31 seconds left in the game and Baltimore at it's on 25 yard line.

Let's ALL say it together: BLOWN COVERAGE. Inexcusable in that circumstance.
