The Giants still control their own destiny

The Giants still control their own destiny

I'm looking at the standings, and if the Giants win their next two games (against the Ravens and Eagles) they make the playoffs.

Take note, while the Giants don't have the tie breaker advantage over the Cowboys and Redskins, they do have the tie breaker advantage over the Vikings and Bears.  Also, the Cowboys and Redskins play each other in week 17 and so one of those two teams will lose another game.

The Giants might not win the division, but they will get at least a wild card if they win their next two.

They could even get in at 9-7 but would need help. So if we lose to the Ravens next week, and things break right we could head into the Eagles game needing a win to get in at 9-7.

But we still have a shot at the division title and 10-6 would pretty much guarantee us a playoff berth.

However.....if we beat the Ravens.....then lose to the Eagles.....we would be in BIG trouble at 9-7 if a lot of teams were tied with us.....

RE: The Giants still control their own destiny

Do they REALLY control their own destiny or do they need another team to lose in order to get the wild card?

I don't think they're going to beat Baltimore on Sunday. The Ravens need that win to get in so they'll have Lewis and Suggs back and all be going completely nuts. I expect more of what we saw today. But I'd be happy to be wrong.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

The only thing we have going for us leagued is that our NFC Conference record would be excellent compared to our other playoff teams should we beat the Eagles.   The worst case scenario for us is finishing in a tie at 9-7.   If we finish with a tie at 10-6, then we likely break any tiebreakers with the rest of the NFC.

But.......it's hard to see this team putting together a winning streak.......so they have us and the league right where they want them.

Why would you want the Giants to make the playoffs? Right now this team is in desperate need of a major changes and if they make the playoffs some of the people we want gone will surely return. I know is tough but right now it`s time to think on what`s best for the team and that is for them to miss the playoffs.

Becuz change aint happening unless we are 3-13. Its unfortunate but its the Giant way.

Jerry Reese has his hands full and whether we see Kildrive gone or not ..and/or fewell, this team will look alot different next year

You guys must drink alot of something alcoholic to even say that the Giants can win the 2 last games. Did I miss anything today that gave you guys optomism? Eli making horrible choices and throwing weakly because he doesn't step into it? Eli going back to the chuck and duck because the O-line sucked? The defense getting run over, around and thru? The vaunted pass rush with another supreme effort? The DB's getting torched? Tynes being unable to kick the ball straight? Killdrive calling the ever so important draw play- nope they won't see that coming the 8th time? Could I go on and on? Yes but am too freakin frustrated. This team is causing an ulcur .

Oh positives ( always end with a positive in any statement)I do think that both Wilson and Lumpkin did well for what space they had.

Did you feel this way before the game? Of course not. The Giants were coming off a blowout victory. Don't read too much into this loss. Just as we shouldn't read too much into last week's victory. The Giants can beat anyone on any given Sunday. They can also lose to anyone on any given Sunday. They certainly make life interesting for us fans.

As much as I hate to say it, I don't see the Giants winning the next two games. The Ravens will be out for blood and the Eagles will be out to ruin our season. I see us finishing 8-8.

Joe Delaney is a hero.  Thanks for the reminder.  As for the Giants, I have been thinking so much of them winning out and was so disappointed today, I appreciate your post.

Wonder how Snee is?  The line is suddenly in question again.  When that happens, the Giants don't seem so big and so blue anymore.  Today was such a disaster.banghead

Iteresting note from ESPN's Dan Graziano:

If Giants and Cowboys each go 2-0, Redskins go 1-1, Seahawks go 0-2 and Bears and Vikings each go 1-1, WAS, DAL and NYG all get in.

It feels good to cling to delusions. Fact is, without two wins it ain't gonna happen, and nobody is going to lie down for us the way we lay down for the Falcons. Better start looking at draft picks 18-22, or trading up with some of the deadwood we may fool other teams into taking.

Why are so many ready to throw dirt on this season?   Are we in such a hurry to start talking draft like so many of the perennial NFL also-rans?!   Who the F*&k cares if they finish with the 18th versus 22nd pick?    There are SIXTEEN precious, regular season games guaranteed to all NFL teams.   These are games I wait all year to start and never want to end when they do.    Thank you very much but I am going to be ALL IN and thinking the best until someone tells me they Giants don't make the tournament.   For the life of me, I cannot see the catharsis or productivity in giving up with two great games left and a CHANCE to turn things around.   Ask the Cardinals or Chiefs if they would trade their 'lets talk draft choices' for our 'let's talk wild card scenarios' discussions.  Guarantee they would trade in a NY Minute.   C'mon folks!   There is plenty of time to talk draft position and changes IF we are freakin eliminated.    WTF??????!     Props to Sage for thinking forward.    Any given Sunday baby....

+1 Season ain't over till its OVER! This Giants team although flawed is talented in key positions. They destroyed the 49ers and Packers who happen to be the #2 and #3 seed at the moment. They destroyed a Saints team who demolished a Playoff contending team (Bucs). Yes the Falcons game STUNK! But it was just one of those days. I can see a scenario where the Giants win the last two games by 10+ points each. Its not time to give up so we can get a better draft pick. NEVER GIVE UP ON THE SEASON UNTIL THE PLAYOFFS CAN'T HAPPEN NO MATTER WHAT! Now if for whatever reason the Giants are completely out of the Playoff picture I prefer them to lose every game for a better draft pick.

Re: The Giants still control their own destiny

I know it stinks what happened in Atlanta, but they can still clinch a playoff spot in Week 16

Giants win
Dallas, Washington, Minnesota, and Chicago losses.

Losses by those 4 means they can't beat the Giants on W-L record and would have to go to tiebreakers.  No way they miss the playoffs on 9-7

There is a whole heap of guys on this team that have been on 2 Super Bowl runs and y'all think that it would be best to not make the playoffs? Good lord

RE: The Giants still control their own destiny

Baltimore has clinched a playoff spot, despite losing 3 in a row, so the Giants have much more motivation to win the game on Sunday. That said, Baltimore knows they can't go into the playoffs on a 5 game losing streak. They will probably have Lewis and Suggs back for Sunday and they'll be extremely fired up. The Giants season is truly on the line Sunday and we'll see what they have. Last year at this time, I gave up and said they stink and need to make changes. They then blew out the Jets and Cowboys to make the playoffs. That was last year, however. Let's see what they've got this year. As mad as I was about the "performance" yesterday, I'm looking forward to Sunday.

Good teams rely on their stars,
Great teams rely on each other.

The explanation as to why the Giants make the playoffs if they win out:

http://mobile.nj.com/advnj/db_...ll=true#display

The Ravens game is very winnable.  Like the Giants, the Ravens also can't play pass defense.
