Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
It's kind of crazy talk, I know.....and would mean we'd have to run the table here, Fassel-style........but........if we do run the table..........
We have beaten San Fran We have beaten Green Bay....whom prob will win that division, IMO By running the table, we beat the Falcons
So.....we could potentially be the #1 seed. It seems highly unlikely b/c the Niners and Falcons are just on fire......it seems hard to believe they will lose many games down the stretch.......but the Niners do have the Pats on the schedule and divisional opponents which give them trouble. The Falcons have the Saints and us.....maybe they lose another game?
Hey.....we can dare to dream! How crazy a finish would that be?
At the end of the day.....I just want us to win the division and hope that we don't face the Packers or Saints in round one. The Saints make me more nervous than the Pack.....but Rodgers always makes me nervous.

RE: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
I think the Giants would be content to be the #3 or 4 seed. It's highly unlikely they will get a bye or the #1 seed. What's the advantage? More home playoff games? If you have watched the Giants the last few years they may be a better team on the road than at home because I believe they thrive on the us against them mentality of playing on the road. They just beat a 15-1 Packer team in GB and a 13-3 SF team last year so road games don't scare them at all.

Re: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
I believe that the Giants can run the table. In fact, I am on record as saying that their only potential loss down the stretch is @ Baltimore. I am not afraid of the Saints, especially outside the Dome. The Giants match up really well with the Falcons I have faith that they will take care of the division. (so much faith, that I just bought a pair of tickets in section 115 @ MetLife against the Eagles ) But that's just me, I'm no expert prognosticator. Even with a 12-4 record they are not likely to get the #1 seed (it would be great!), but the Giants have no problems as we know on the road...but in the end, it would be very cool to see this version of the Giants win an NFC Championship Game at MetLife...just before Eli goes home to NO to play in The Manning Bowl against denver and Big brother Seriously, how CRAZY would THAT be?!

Re: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
when you watch them play games like they did against the 49ers and the Packers, you think this team is unstoppable, when you see them play like they did against the Bengals and the Steelers its like watching a horror movie with one eye open and your finger on the channel changer. You really cant predict how they will play one game from the next, ahhhh the joys of being a Giants fan, I thought they hade a real shot at 10-6 at the beginning of the year, 12-4 isnt that far a reach if they play like we believe they can. Its gonna be tough to hit the Number 1 or 2 seeds unless the Falcons and 9ers go into a bit of a slump, might be easier to catch the Bears for the number 3. Heck I'll take the friggn wild card as long as they make it, considering most "experts" didnt even think they would make the play-offs.

RE: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
I honestly believe they can run the table, but I think that even if they do they're not likely to get the #1 seed. #2 is a long shot too, but possible. I'd love to have the Giants be the #1 seed with all games in Giants Stadium, oops I mean MetLife (rolls eyes), and get that bye week to rest up, but its not going to happen. Most likely, they'll lose one or two more games and make the playoffs as a 3 or 4 seed. They'll get a home playoff game against someone like Chicago or Green Bay, and then they'll go on the road to Atlanta or San Francisco. I like the Giants chances against anyone.
Good teams rely on their stars, Great teams rely on each other.

You know, from a long time Giants fan stand point, it is so much nicer this time of year knowing the GMEN are still relavant and I think we can all agree that this team has the POTENTIAL to run the table once again, of course theres always that possibility that we see the same Giants team that showed up against the Bengals but I dont think so. IMO there is no team remaining on the schedule that truly concerns me, if we were playing the Saints in N.O. id be very scared, but we have them here. Anything can happen, but at least the Giants should remain in the conversation for the next couple of weeks and I am ok with that.

JDub19 wrote: I am an extremely supersticious guy and I think I just threw up in my mouth reading this thread. :-p Just to confirm Jdub.....I am certainly not predicting this will happen.....and I really don't expect it to happen. Additionally......it wouldn't bother me if it didn't happen..........given the schedule we were dealt. It would be an amazing accomplishment for the team should we somehow run the table. I just want to be in the playoffs. Given the history of Super Bowl Champs, this is not necessarily a guarantee......and I thought this squad was at least a playoff squad. Not Making the playoffs (barring horrible circumstances) would to me not be a very good outcome.

A dollar and a dream indeed JHF! :-p I took this thread just as you intended it and agree it is so nice just to be in the hunt most years in contrast to life as a Blue Fan in the 70s and early 80s...(and the Ray Handley era). I absolutely agree that there is no one on their schedule (or in the league for that matter) that the Giants couldn't beat on any given Sunday. Winning out and a high seed is a possibility to be sure. It is just the side of me that has witnessed so many Giant teams grab defeat from the jaws of victory that compells me to avert my eyes from the NFL Gods and hopefully avoid their wrath in doing so. :-D
I like your spirit JHF! Go Blue!

I just want us to roll into the playoffs healthy and hot. That's all we need not #1 in the NFC.

RE: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
wow...love the optimism!
How about just beating the skinz and then minimally winning 1 more game to clinch the East and then worry about other things?
We have a tough game ahead with a team that can bulldoze our weakness
Plus...I think having a week off seems to hurt teams mojo going into the playoffs.

There isn't enough pressure for the Giants to thrive on. Why overtax themselves in games for the #1 or #2 seed when they can leave something in the tank for January? I'm not condoning that they sleepwalk through one or two of the remaining games but we've seen it every year. If the pressure is not on them, they tend not to show up. They will play the last game of the year like its a playoff game no matter what because they believe in momentum. But I feel like it's too early for them to start treating every game like a playoff game especially with a two game lead in the the NFC East.

I understand the theory Capt, and I don't disagree in principle. The only thing that I can say on the other side of the argument is that the Giants reeled off six straight to win the SuperBowl last year. After a ten game schedule which ended with three weeks of the Sandy aftermath, they got a much needed week off and declared a SIX GAME SEASON. They won the first one against a formidible opponent in impressive fashion. They have plenty of talent, depth, and confidence. I'm holding out hope that they buck the trend this season and they began their Championship run Sunday night, and a BIG division win Monday night!

RE: Giants..........potential playoff No. 1 seed?
I'm content with the Giants being a #3 or #4 seed, but it all depends on if the Giants make the playoffs and if the Saints sneak in as the #6 seed. If the Saints sneaks in at #6, and if the Giants win their division, I rather the Giants be the #4 seed. Take on the Bears. That's what I prefer, but then again I'm usually wrong.

Unless you're nursing injuries the playoff bye doesn't seem to help teams as it has in the past. As Coughlin preaches, just get into the tournament. That's goal #1.

It's still not an impossibility.......both the Giants and final game of the year against the Bucs are potential losses.......but the other two games aren't overly challenging with the Panthers and Lions. You know......it's fun to think about our opportunities. I still just want us in the playoffs and not playing GB or NO in that first game. Looks like 1/2 of that wish may be coming true. I'll take my chances with Chi, TB, Sea, or whomever else makes it into the tourney......

They need everything to go right for them to make it to the last seed.
