I am seriously enjoying watching the end of the Andy Reid era

Watching the Eagles crash for the last six weeks has been almost as enjoyable as watching the Giants [win or lose].  I am experiencing an incredible amount of schadenfreude watching Philly lose miserably week after week after week, now SEVEN in a row (with of course their last win coming against us in a game we should have won).

Philly is so down at this point that they can only pray to bottom out so they can start the rebuilding process.  They have the worst record in the NFC, almost no prospects for the future, and no foreseeable way out of the mess they're in for a LONG time.  They have to fire their whole staff, cut a bunch of bloated contracts, find a new franchise QB...pretty much everything.  They need everything.

Reid is done, Vick is toast, the fans are apathetic at best, and frankly I'm loving every minute of it.  I'll be rooting for them against Dallass, but really, when they lose I'll be smiling.

It does seem like the dynasty thing will have to be pushed back a bit, huh.

The only frustrating part is they'll probably still come into our house and beat us in week 17

While its great to see the Eagles thrown from their self-proclaimed lofty perch, it has not been that long ago when they went through a prolonged period as the doormat of the division.  Compared to the satisfaction I get from watching the cowboys self-destruct, this year's fiasco in Philly is much less appealing.  In addition, I have a great deal of respect for Andy Reid and am sorry to see him go through the past few seasons with this team and his family problems.

I have read Losing the Edge, the book about the Rangers in 1994 and 1995.  Also Nightmare on 33rd St, about the 2001-02 or 2000-01 (one of those dreadful years).  Really hope one of their beat writers does a book about this team.

I must say, I am totally enjoying their collapse as well.  This summer I was up in the Poconos, wearing Giants stuff.  Stopped in at a Dunkin Donuts and one of the employees started talking to me about football.  Most likely a HS or college kid, nice fella.  Insisted this was the Eagles year.  I want to drive up their today after work just to say hello to the lad.

Re: I am seriously enjoying watching the end of the Andy Reid

I didn't buy into the 'dream team' scenario.....I thought they were good the last couple of years...def a 10 win-style team.   The way this has fallen apart the last two years is amazing.   It goes to show that sometimes the message can just get lost from the HC.   I am enjoying the philly fans experiencing some irritation from this.   If.....for no other reason.....they don't seem to appreciate a good thing when they've got it.

Now......it's on to a new era for them......who knows whom will be leading that new era.   It's not looking overly good.   I guess Asomugha wasn't exactly everything he was cracked up to be.....but sometimes poor coaching gets players down.....not that it's an excuse....but it can happen

Oh well......I'm all torn up inside about it.....not.

+1 with regards to having respect for Reid and what he has been through.  I do believe he will land on his feet.   I generally have respected the Eagles but did not respect their hiring of Michael Vick.   I will assume they have the front office smarts to come back strong however and am still praying to God we don't go into Week 17 needing a win.   Until we beat them, they have our number...

How do you think Reid would fair as the H/C of the Cowboys?  Seriously doubt Garret will be standing at the end of the year, unless of course some christmas miracle happens and the boys run the table. hahahahahahahahahaha  oooo boy I can't believe I just typed that last sentence! eekeekeek

It's fine by me that the eagles are falling apart and stink.

Re: I am seriously enjoying watching the end of the Andy Reid

When you look at the eagles team from a subjective standpoint you realize that they have a group of talented players but they do not coexist with each other. Vick has always been a run first type of quarter back. Desean Jackson is a speedster wr who main value is the vertical threat. He is really a specialist who only is good at running streaks. He is explosive and I thought at the time he was drafted he would be a solid wr but he is what he is at this stage of his career. Maclin meanwhile is a better route runner yet he lacks the elite big play ability like a Hakeem nicks. I am glad the eagles over drafted for him. There is no question anymore that Cruz and nicks are ten times better than Jackson and maclin. Aso is an overrated corner back. He is good on man coverage not great. Dmc is better zone covering than man. Their two corners don't coexist with each other.

I do have some sympathy for Original Eagles Rule, our friendly enemy and astute poster. I have no sympathy, however, for those overrated braggarts in green who deserve to be on the stomped, rather than stomping end for a few more seasons. I always have a little empathy for fans, though. After all, 1971-80 was no fun at all. Nor were the R** H****** and Dan Reeves regimes.

Faithful Giants fan from 1967 - to whenever the Reaper comes a' callin'!

You know what, I'm tired of this fallacy about the Eagles being talented.  "Talented" is a backhanded compliment in the NFL anyway, but who exactly is so talented on this team?  Where's the core group of players they can build around for a successful future?  They have a bunch of overpriced mercenary free agents and one failed draft class after another after another.  They have a few decent offensive linemen who are hurt right now and who may or may not come back and play well, and perhaps a couple of decent RBs, but otherwise they have nothing.

And I don't have a lot of respect for Reid either at this point.  Five years ago, sure.  But on both a personal and professional level he has made bad decision followed by bad decision, often based in arrogance and a belief that he's smarter than everyone else.  And it finally all caught up with him.  I feel bad for him losing his son the way he did, but that's it.  I don't want him coaching my team let alone managing personnel.  No way.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him Fassel-ized and shut out of the NFL for the foreseeable future.

What's with the NFL teams that wear green? In the last 40 years only the Eagles have made it to a Super Bowl and they lost.

I do have a lot of respect for Reed as a coach. When the Eagles weren't the Dream Team he managed to get them to 5 NFC title games.

14 years 10 playoff appearances and at least 1 win in 8 of those playoff appearences. And only 2 seasons below .500

RE: I am seriously enjoying watching the end of the Andy Reid er

Living in the area it has made my year

Iggles have owned the Giants and them beating us the year plax shot himself was another potential SB year for us and still kills me

When Buddy Ryan was coach they had a bad *** team and always beat us too

So I am basking in the sunshine of the noise in Philly with the Iggles. Reid was a great coach who had great results but needed the big one to be one of the tops. He didn't get there with the Iggles.

When you lay down with snakes, you get up poisoned every time.

The Eagles aligned themselves with Michael Vick, a criminal of the worst kind, and they are paying for that sin now.

May every player that supported and every fan that cheered for that dog killer rot in sports hell for eternity.
