GM all. I covered Ryan at draft time and he was far down on my list of RB's. That being said you should see what the pats are doing with a kid who wasn't even on my list! He's got the most yardage of any draft pick I just can't remember his name.
Part of this growing old thing is you suddenly have memory failure it's not like you can't remember but certain things like my brothers new cell phone number in LA no matter how many times my wife screams it at me-- I just can't remember it.
The funny thing about Torain-- he can't pass block! So if you take Lumpkin & Torain and mold them together in a DNA scrambler-- you'd have a decent back.
Here is the skinny--
COACH SHANAHAN HAD RYAN AT DENVER!
Denver has proud history of nailing mid round RB's in the draft so there actually was quite a bit of buzz surrounding Torain as he came to Bronco camp. He promptly dislocated his elbow. COACH SHANNY WAS SO IMPRESSED HE MADE THIS COMPARISON:
"He's one of the most gifted running backs I've been around for a long time. He is very similar to Terrell Davis when he came in,"

Ironically it was on that very same day of the compliment that Torain was carted off the practice field.
Now at this point remember that Torain had missed a lot of college ball his final 7 games and the elbow and then he's ready to play finally and...
"I want to take up that big role that everyone is counting on and take it and run with it," Torain said. Well he ran. He ran all the way to WASHINGTON where coach Shanny was aware of his potential so starting job there right? No. Flash Forward to Washington DC.
The Washington Redskins have released third-year pro Ryan Torain, ending a perplexing season in which the running back struggled, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. .
Torain entered training camp as the favorite to start. But he broke his left hand during a training camp practice and Washington traded for Tim Hightower, who did well in the preseason. Torain never managed to rekindle the promise that he showed last season.
WOW TOUGH LUCK KID. Ankle in college. Elbow at Broncos and now hand.... he's the extremity nightmare! What's next lost toe due to harvester mishap? Bruised tongue?
In the fourth game of the season, with Hightower banged up, Torain rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries against the St. Louis Rams. But his production dropped off significantly after that. Following the Week 5 bye, Torain gained only 22 yards on 10 carries against the Eagles, and hasn’t had a run longer than six yards since. He did run three yards to the ice bucket but that didn't count.
Since the Rams game, Torain has produced only 65 yards on 40 carries. Oooooph
What's that 1.7 a carry!

When asked about Torain’s ineffectiveness, Shanahan could offer little insight.
“It’s hard to say,” said Shanahan, who in 2008 drafted Torain in Denver and brought him to Washington last season. “ But what you look for is consistency at every position. The people that are consistent get more opportunities. If you’re not consistent, you don’t get as many opportunities to show us what you can do.”
Sixth-round pick Aldrick Robinson, a wide receiver, was promoted to the 53-man roster, filling Torain’s spot.~si
