2013 Year of Denial
Well, as we set forth on another long offseason of bickering and preconceived notions foolish pride won’t let us drift too far away from, what better time than now to reflect back on how time stood still in the face of obvious truths.
I think it’s only fair to start at the top, (in this case the bottom) but since I’ve been reminded over and over it’s a QB driven league it seems like a likely place to begin.
The Vikings have openly committed to Christian Ponder. What have we heard about him and what are the truths we’ve witnessed so far?
They say he’s an athletic QB. While I sit here and ask myself how someone who looks like he’s running with a stick up his @$$ be called athletic? I’m left to consider the fact they say this because he’s athletic for a white QB. Because let’s be honest, if he was a black QB nobody would confuse him with the term athletic. I know it and if you’re honest with yourself you know it too.
They say he’s accurate. Which one of the 100 yard or less games are they referencing? Was he accurate when he majestically put up 36 total yards in Green Bay with 3 minutes left to play? How about the back to back ½’s of football where he had less than 15 total yards passing?
Yeah, I heard the excuses, in fact I pointed out last year that the Ponder fans would create an entire new list, even though they openly proclaimed last offseason that this would be the year he would show he’s a quality starter after a full year of excuses last year and wouldn’t need any this year.
Yes, excuses are for losers, and Ponder has been granted more than most.
But what about his WR’s not getting open, every game WR’s are thrown to by quality QB’s who are by and large covered. The difference is they have an accurate passer creating opportunities for them to catch the ball. While Ponder throws to an area his WR’s are at, they throw passes to points their WR’s are able to make a play in spite of being covered.
That’s not accuracy, heck any scrub can throw to an area. Walsh used to harp on Montana that this pass needed to be 6” here or there instead of where he threw it. Ponder deals in feet, not inches.
Right about now a few simpletons are about to bring up my past posts referencing Webb and my desire to have him replace Ponder at several moments during last year.
I haven’t defended the guy who had the 2nd worst passing game in Green Bay last year for Viking QB since that start. The question is are you willing to admit these truths about both situations?
One was starting his 11th consecutive game, the other throwing his 1st pass of the season.
Ponder had 36 yards with 3 minutes left to play, Webb 60 with 5 minutes to go. They both finished with over 100, the new standard of excellence since Ponder took over the position, yet absolutely horrible football by any normal unit of measurement for a QB (first game or 11th game) But where some get off saying Webb proved he doesn’t belong with his, and the EXACT same saying Ponder had excuses during his is beyond rational thought.
No, you won’t find that in here.
Hence this post, where only you see what you want to see and slam who you want to slam in spite of truth laid before all of us. The fact is, we need to find and address the QB position, and the only hope left on the roster is the only guy we have yet to see…

RE: 2013 Year of Denial
You are a one trick pony. Can't discuss anything other than Ponder. It used to be McKinnie, now Ponder. Either way, are you incapable of discussing anything else?
God forbid you give the team credit for making the playoffs.
You are the kind of person that:
-if someone asks about winning the lottery, you focus on taxes.
-the weather starts getting warm and the snow is melting you talk about how muddy and dirty everything is.
No matter what happens, you focus on the negative. I bet that is fun?????

RE: 2013 Year of Denial
The athletic QB statement is wrong. If he was black they would still call him athletic. I heard someone call Byron Leftwich an athletic QB. LOL. He probably runs a 5.2 40.

RE: 2013 Year of Denial
Bonger's new favorite whipping boy is Ponder, it seems.
Most fans are not sold on Ponder. He's had some awful games and some games where he has played pretty well. Probably less than 5 percent of Vikings fans are sold on him as the QB of the future.
Based on what we have seen so far, either of these can be true: - that Ponder is nothing more than a backup in the NFL - that Ponder can be a very good starting QB.
To pretend that he has already shown that he can be a good QB is crazy. And to pretend that he has not shown any promise is also crazy.

Re: 2013 Year of Denial
+ 1,000,000 EVERYTHING the OP stated here is dead on accurate (something little #7 is defiantly not)... What baffles me is the fact that so many "Ponderites" here in PT seem to think that all is wine & roses with little #7, and their excuses are like retread tires...the same old crap just glossed over to make look new. The "Ponderites" also seem to hold little #7 as some beacon of light when it comes to the most critical of positions in todays NFL... little #7 wasn't/isn't/and will never be a franchise QB, no matter how the "Ponderites" try to spin the facts....facts are facts, little #7 is the brakes that are holding back the Vikings drive for a CHAMPIONSHIP. Until the Vikings front office realizes this, and Speilman mans up and admits his mistake in drafting little #7 the Vikings will be stuck in the position they find themselves in now, a medicore team that is always going to be a wild card, one & done team. The Vikings could field a WR corp of Megatron, Larry Fitzgerald, Percy Harvin & Andre Johnson and they would still look like crap with little #7 "trying" to throw them the ball. bongbreath wrote: Well, as we set forth on another long offseason of bickering and preconceived notions foolish pride won’t let us drift too far away from, what better time than now to reflect back on how time stood still in the face of obvious truths.

RE: 2013 Year of Denial
Couldn't be bothered to read the entire rant but I'm certain I would disagree with it. I'm optimistic about this teams immediate future. I was a big Ponder detractor, and still believe that they could have won some games that were lost midseason if he had been benched....but the way he finished the season was very impressive. I'm expecting more good play from him in Aug/Sept and going forward

Bonger writes complete sentences. The other dude's writing looks like he dropped out of school at 2nd grade due to anger issues. kentis wrote: Is YourWifesFantasy Bonger replying to his own little thread?

Re: 2013 Year of Denial
Simple question: If Webb proved he didn't belong because of his performance in Green Bay, what did the arguably worse performance by Ponder in Green Bay prove?
Tough question unless you are a hypocrite or dislike Ponder...

Maybe but I know we could have Brady and someone would complain that he is not good enough.

Re: 2013 Year of Denial
It's hard to argue your points. The question is did he do anything last year that would give you hope that he can be a good QB . He had some flashes. Next year is it imo. He has to make great strides, if he doesn't then we will know that the vikes are wasting and have already wasted their time.
