Without going down the list of draft picks I'd say there were a lot of first round picks over the years who didn't perform as well as the Vikings would have hoped.  It's kind of a crap shoot in the draft sometimes.

The correct answer is maybe....To early to tell

But yah,  the franchise has made a significant investment in Ponder. They absolutely have to determine over the course of the next 12-18 mos if he's the right qb or not.

IMO they have to stick with him the rest of this year minimally and probably into next year too...I'd like to see what he could do with some better protection up-front and at least one more good receiver to go with Percy.

Underwood was actually projected by most to develop into a pretty good NFL player. He was just a total psycho. Doesn't mean he was a reach.

I'd say there's a great chance of it. 2nd to 3rd round talent and we panicked and took him in the early first. Great decision.

i think you'd better read up on Underwood a little bit. his own college coach, Nick Saban, thought the guy was a total flake and told several teams not to waste their time on him. and Denny used a 1st to get him.

Definitely the biggest reach that I can think of. A 4th round talent, taken 12th overall. Yuck.

y'all are crazy. Ponder's not even on the same planet as Underwood when it comes to 1st round reaches.

Remember, coaches at Michigan St told the Vikings to avoid him even!!!!

I'm sorry ... no one remembers #7 overall pick Troy Williamson anymore?   His ~1000 yds in 3 yrs should be considered biggest bust.  But boy was he FAST

D. Underwood was at least a #29 pick ... but then again taking a workout warrior who's own coaches didn't recommend him was a bad idea too.

i can't even imagine the circumstances of what it would take for another player to overtake Underwood as a bigger reach.

can't even come near Underwood, Williamson, but none of you probably remember James "Duck" Williams, that was back in the old days, but I don't think he started a game for the Vikes.

Gotta agree with Hauts here.  As bad as Williamson was, he did manage to stick around for 3 years.

Underwood went AWOL day one. They tracked him down.  He came in and signed a contract.  Then he was gone the next day I believe....complete, and total waste of a pic.

Williamson, while bad, is a close 2nd IMO...

Oh booo hooo, we dont have one of the best QB's in the league. Woe is me... Ponder sucks, *sniffle*, we cant ever find quarterbacks...

What are you guys 12? We get the point, you dont like Ponder, don't worry we wont forget.... Maybe its time to find another team with a better QB since your so bent out of shape with our current situation.

boy,  ponder?  underwood?  troy williamson?     taking derrick alexander before warren sapp?

i'd go underwood just because had vikes did their research they never would of taken him.  HC saban said he was worthless.  hardly played his senior year cause he said he had sprained ankle.

also, the pick after underwood was  patrick kearney DE  falcons   who went on to be a pro bowl player.
