Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

For all you Fantasy Football junkies, I have found a very interesting tidbit for the Fins players this year.  As long as you make the playoffs, it usually comes down to the matchups in weeks 15 and 16 (standard playoff weeks for most leagues).  I've been evaluating the schedule for these weeks and I have found that the Miami Dolphins are the ONE AND ONLY team that plays against terrible defenses (against both the run and pass) in weeks 15 and 16....and I mean the only team.  We play the Detriot Lions and Buffalo Bills.  My friends in my money league will be saying "look at this stupid homer" as I'm drafting several Dolphins and I will be laughing all the way to the bank!

Player breakdown:

The no brainers that you can get in the last few rounds:

Chad Henne - will go undrafted in most drafts and he SHOULD be your backup QB.  If he has a good year, you will be ecstatic to have those matchups in the playoff weeks.  If your starting QB has a brutal matchup, plugging in Chad may help you win either of the crucial playoff games.

Dan Carpenter - had a pretty good year last year and I will have him in EVERY league.  You can get him in the very last round in just about any draft.  This way, you don't have to waste a pick on a kicker in any round but the last.  You will have a solid kicker for the season and he has GREAT matchups in the playoffs.

Players you should try to get:

Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown - you can get some great value here.  I'd be looking to get Brown regardless (in the mid rounds) but you will be glad to have a healthy Brown or Williams when it's time for us to play the mighty Lions and Bills.

Brandon Marshall - try to get him!  He will FEAST on these defenses if circumstances are normal.

While you typically don't want a lot of players from one team, this is the time when you want to be a homer.  It's not like you will be starting williams or brown and henne every week but having them on your roster late this season could very well payoff huge.  Marshall would be the only weekly starter here (unless Ronnie stays healthy and has a HUGE contract year on the field, which is a possibility.

The one drawback to this method is that we play a BRUTAL schedule in the first 9 or 10 games.  It's cake after that but you want to make sure you have other strong players to carry you through the first half of the season.  These players will payoff after that but you don't wanna be 3-6 to start.

Just thought I'd pass this finding along.  Be a homer in your draft this year!  Fins up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

Oh - not only do we play FF, some of these guys have like 7 teams  rolleyes disbelief
tongue
I only have 2  biggrin & was a total homer last year w/my Phins:
There's a Forum here (below the Main Boards) where it's more detailed:
Fantasy Football / Mock Draft

I had Ricky last year & he was very inconsistent week to week.  Same w/Fasano (used him a lot in the Flex position).  I dunno if I trust Henne just yet as a starter (for my leagues) - maybe a backup (last year I had Philip Rivers)....
I also had Dan Carpenter & that was a good choice.

My drafts aren't until Sept 2nd & 3rd .....banghead  - I need to do some Mocks, tho ....

ahhhh whoops, i forgot there was a separate forum for that.  my bad

I wouldnt trust henne as my starter either, but with the week 15 and 16 matchups, having him as a backup is a really smart play.  You can get him and carpenter in the last 2 rounds.  Then again if you had Rivers as a backup you certainly wouldn't want Henne over him. biggrin

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

I've joined a fantasy team for the first ever time.  Am quite excited about it to be honest.  I was picking last in a group of twelve so it was nice getting two picks in a row each time.  I took Peyton and Wayne first.  Prob should of picked a second defence but didn't know you could.   My team, '4th and Schlong' is as follows:

Starters.

QB     Peyton Manning

RB    Ryan Grant
RB   Joseph Addai

WR   Derrick Mason
WR  Reggie Wayne
WR  DeSean Jackson

TE  Jermichael Finley

K      Adam Vinatieri

Chicago Bears Defense.

Bench

QB    Tim Tebow    He was 'Mr irrelevant'.  I figured Peyton will play every week. On his bye Tim plays the Raiders.

WR's     Dez Bryant
               Davone Bess

  RB's     Laurence Maroney
                Reggie Bush
                Brian Westbrook

What do you guys think of my first ever draft class??

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

How many teams are in your league?  Looks like 12?  Not a bad roster if so.  I don't think Tebow should be on your team tongue (and not just because I'm a Nole but it's unsure on whether he even plays this year a lot.   Also, the Raiders have a pretty good defense, as far as your bye week mentality).

You do not need a second defense.  You can always make room for one when your bye week comes or even drop your defense if it's not any good.  I never draft more than one kicker, defense, or tight end and the only time I have 2 on my team is if I have one of the best at that position.  You can get a top 3 kicker and a top 3 defense off the waiver wire virtually every single year.  Just keep an eye on the stats of available players at K and DEF for the first 3 weeks or so and you will find a couple gems.  I'd try to upgrade over Tebow and Bess (there have to be available players better at each position unless you are in a 14 team league or something.)

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

Ive done 6 drafts on ESPN and 3 of my 7 money leagues here in town, and I gotta disagree with you on Henne.  He will get drafted in EVERY league....that is if there are knowledgeable fans drafting.  Hes gone in every league Ive drafted so far.
A funny side note....I have a buddy who is a Niners fan.  I was drunk the other night and he was giving me **** for being a homer when I drafted Marshall.  I popped off telling him that we should do a draft on ESPN where you have to have a starter from your fav team at EVERY starting possition and start someone from your favorite team EVERY week at EVERY possition.
Well, we did the draft on ESPN tonight.  Little did I know, there was a fellow Dolphin fan drafting too.  Our rule was, you take someone at every possition and start him every week (except the bye week).  So Im cruising along and have Henne in my queue to draft with my next pick.  Its pick 81 and Henne is listed on ESPN as the #122 player.  So Im pretty sure Im safe.  Pick 182 comes and there goes Henne!  Im like WTF???  The same team reached for Ronnie early, but I didnt really peg him as a Dolphin fan.  So I drafted Ricky since Ronnie was gone.  But I was like WTF do I do now???  So if I cant get this dude to trade me Henne for Flacco or Kolb, I have to pick up Penny and start him everyfrickin week!!  WTF???

Without the trade, Ill be starting....

Penny

Steven Jackson
McCoy
Ricky

Marshall
Colston

Fasano

Carpenter

Miami

The bye week I will be able to take the Dolphins out and put in Flacco/Kolb, Marion Barber, Mike Wallace/TO, Shiancoe, whatever kicker I pick up, and CIN.

He will be starting....

Alex Smith

Gore
Mendenhall
Javid Best

Crabtree
Roddy White

Vernon Davis

Nedney

SF

On his bye week, he can put in Roethlisberger, Portis/Bradshaw, Mason/Hines Ward, Owen Daniels, but then he has to drop 2 players to get a kicker and a defense.

Stephen Ross...ur an assclown.
Sell the Dolphins immediately before you completely wreck this franchise.

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

That sounds horrible and fun at the same time, lol.  You guys have to do something about the rules though....you can't be starting a backup QB man!

It depends on how big the league is for Henne to be drafted.  In 12 team leagues?  Sure, he will be drafted in every one.  He will be drafted in very few 8 team leagues and 10 team leagues would probably by 50/50.

To be fair I've only done one draft so far and I drafted him!  I wouldn't say "knowledgable fans" would be looking to grab Henne as one of the 16-20 best QB's in the league (UNLESS they are looking at the playoff schedule).  That's the gem here, week 15 and 16, nobody has better matchups than the Fins.

Re: Fantasy Football - Dolphin player breakdown

ED - so, you've crossed over to the dark side, huh?? tongue  You'll become like an addict & have to take "stat hits" every chance you get - every computer you walk past, every football sports highlight, every ticker tape rolling across the screen - when you start checking your stats on the toilet, then you KNOW you've gone over the edge devil
Otherwise, it's great time-consuming fun banghead

biggrin

Timing is EVERYTHING, too, because there've been times when my guys have gotten hurt in practice & I caught wind of it & jumped on the 'puter right away to pick someone else up & literally, within less than 60 seconds, my choice(s) were goneohlord  crazy
So it's SERIOUS business boxer.gif

DeSean was a fantastic pickup because he returns punts (I'd say the best in the game, & you can really rack it w/those returners) - but a lot of Fecals fans are uncomfortable w/him in that role (understandable).

Agreed w/DCNoles on the K & Def - you can ALWAYS pick up an acceptable substitute (they're not worth carrying extras on your roster spots), and I don't know about y'all but it makes me physically ILL when I have to drop my good K/Def on their byes & some other ahole comes along & picks them up flushedflushed
It's helpful to glance @ when the byes are BEFORE you draft, but sometimes you have to grab first & make adjustments later....

Just on TEs:
I watched Visanthe Shiancoe (sp?) last year & was SOOO mad I didn't grab him when I had the chance banghead
I won't make that mistake again this year if I can help it (BRT - if you're reading this - close your eyes tongue)....him & J Finley.
My boy Chris Cooley got injured last year,  but I was pretty happy w/Heath Miller/Fasano.

Last year, I wanted Marion Barber BADLY & now I'm glad I didn't get him....he's not even on my radar this year.

It may be the wrong strategy, but I look @ the matchups more than I do individual stats
noidea
I know Chzamp does ESPN, but are y'all on Yahoo leagues?
