Tight end Will Yeatman is now offensive tackle Will Yeatman.

He obviously doesn't have the kind of footspeed or quickness the Dolphins are looking for in a pass-catcher but is quite agile for a tackle.

He worked as the RT for the 2nd team offense today.

A tight end who joined the Dolphins after being claimed off waivers as a rookie last year, Yeatman has been switched from tight end to offensive tackle.

His jersey number also has changed, from 89 to 60.

Coach Joe Philbin explained the move after Friday morning's practice.

“He’s a guy that caught our eye with some of the things that he did in the spring," Philbin said. "We like his physicality and the effort that he plays with. Just based on the position, we felt like we liked him as an in-line tight end. We thought he had excellent growth potential and has real good measurables, obviously his height and arm length, but he was kind of fighting to keep his weight down in the low to mid 270s, and we just felt like his best chance to make this football team would be if he had a position change with him.

"He was receptive to it, and we were receptive to it, and I noticed that he did one or two things well. Obviously we’re going to look a little bit closer, but we’ll see.”

If he can play T decently, he'd be great in goal line situations as a Tackle eligible receiver...

That's a very good point NBFF ... It also isn't out of the realm of possibility that Yeatman is kept on as the extra Tackle if he grows a bit stronger and can handle the position. It's happened before elsewhere.  Trying to remember the name of the Saints TE they converted to Tackle for the same reason.  He was a blonde headed guy who was a madman but was too slow and had poor hands.
