Chris Chambers released..
Chargers released WR Chris Chambers. The move locks in Malcom Floyd as a starter. The writing was on the wall for Chambers throughout the season's first half. Struggling badly to get open, the 31-year-old managed just 122 yards in seven games. He's simply lost his explosiveness, and never had reliable hands. Legedu Naanee now becomes San Diego's clear-cut third receiver. Chambers will probably get another look elsewhere, but his days of being an impact player are long gone. Nov. 2 - 3:01 pm et Any Takers?

Re: Chris Chambers released..
I saw the writing when he was here, lol. This is bad news for us though. It may be a bit tougher to get Vincent Jackson as the Chargers may value his services a bit more than I thought. Still A.J. Smith is a bit of a moron when it comes to his own free agents.

If we sign Chambers, he starts for us immediately. Sad to say but even as a Charger discard, he's an upgrade over anything we have right now.

Norv Turner addresses decision to cut Chris Chambers Posted by Mike Florio on November 2, 2009 4:52 PM ET The San Diego Chargers formally have announced the decision to cut receiver Chris Chambers.
"There are a number of things that went into the decision," coach Norv Turner said in a team-issued release. "The reason we're able to do this is the play of Malcom [Floyd] and the way Legedu Naanee is performing. Certainly there are a number of other things in terms of our football team that we need to address. Defensively and in the kicking game . . . we need to get some help."
In other words, the Chargers opted to dump Chambers in order to create a roster spot that can be used to address other areas.
As we previously mentioned, any team that lands Chambers on waivers will be required to pick up the balance of his $4.55 million base salary. If he clears waivers, he'll be entitled to collect the remaining $2.4 million as termination pay. He would be permitted to keep that amount even if he signs with a new team as an unrestricted free agent.

Should Dolphins bring back Chris Chambers? > Posted by Omar Kelly on November 2, 2009 05:15 PM
Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland likes to refer to his job as if he's a nut harvester picking up acorns.
If there's something out there worth exploring Ireland openly admits he'll pick it up and give it a good once over.
Well, the Chargers just dropped an acorn by releasing veteran receiver Chris Chambers, and it couldn't come at a better time for the Dolphins, which just saw it's offense put up a total of 104 yards in a win over the Jets.
Chambers, who averages 14.2 yards per catch throughout his career, and was once a Pro Bowler with the Dolphins, might be older, and he might have slowing down some. But considering the state that Miami's receiving corp is presently in, and how young and impressionable Chad Henne is as a first-time starting quarterback, it's worth exploring Chambers.
If the Dolphins REALLY think they are still in the hunt for the AFC East crown ,and a playoff berth, and are one receiver away, why not show the team and fan base you're making every effort to do your part by signing the veteran receiver, bringing Chambers back to South Florida.
Chris chambers The need the Dolphins have might make it worth claiming Chambers instead of waiting for him to clear waivers. That way there's no competition (unless another team wants to eat the remainder of his $4.55 million salary, which is about $2.4 million for nine games).
It all comes down to how desperate this franchise is at that position, and based on what we've seen from the first seven games, Ireland should be pretty desperate.
However, this is a gamble. Do we really know how much Chambers has left? He's had a ton of issues off the field this season, so that needs to be explores. And so does his drive. Does he still have the heart to play this game?
It's funny that the same issues people had with Chambers in San Diego (not tough enough, doesn't fight for the ball, inconsistent hands) are the same issues Dolphins fans have with Ted Ginn Jr. the receiver, his former protege.
But Chambers would immediately become the most polished receiver on this inexperienced unit, and it's possible he could make Henne better by becoming the one receiver that consistently creates separation.
It's at least worth Ireland picking up the acorn, right?
Why should Chambers be interested in returning to Miami?
1. Everyone always wants to come home, and it doesn't hurt that the Dolphins are still in a playoff hunt. The regime might have changed, but this is a familiar area, and familiar team considering he spent six-plus seasons with this franchise.
2. What NFL team needs a receiver more than the Dolphins. This could be his opportunity to earn another decent deal on the free agent market in 2010. And if things play out well this could possibly be more than a one season deal.
3. What better way to prove San Diego was wrong about you by helping the Dolphins, the team they gave a second round pick to for him, make the playoffs.

RE: ex dolphin Chris Chambers released (merged)
so if we did sign him we will have to release someone + it prob pushes pat turner down again here`s what sparano said about turner
On Pat Turner: "As far as Pat Turner goes, Pat's had a couple good solid weeks of practice, getting better and better. Sooner or later we'll see him."

Re: ex dolphin Chris Chambers released (merged)
I dunno, IMO, the new Dolphins regime has been rebuilding with youth. I don't see them going after Chambers when he's not doing much better than the WR corps we have now and he's longer in the tooth than all of them.
The Miami Dolphins -- STILL the ONLY undefeated team in NFL history!! 2007 Digest Pick'em League Champion!
