Dolphins set to hire Marino

"The news broke shortly after the team's 25-20 victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night in their home preseason opener, though no official word is expected for the time being until final details on the deal are worked out"

Sell the Dolphins immediately before you completely wreck this franchise.

To me hiring Marino as a special advisor is putting him on payroll and keeping him around in case we have to clean house and fire Hickey and Ireland. Ireland can roll out to Harbaughs crib with Dan the Man an old nemesis and try to lure him to Miami again with Marino as the GM. Write it down folks!

I'm assuming when you say Ireland you mean Ross?   Please tell me we didn't hire Ireland back.  eekbiggrin

If my assumption is correct, then that's an interesting theory for the future, I agree.

Dan Marino was the greatest QB in Dolphin history, but as a Team executive?

Having listened to Dan conduct local radio interviews over the years and watch his TV work as an analyst, he does not strike me as an outgoing, sales type or people person.

Definitely has the work history credentials and could sling it, but never showed much  gift of gab.

Hopefully, he's exactly what we need, and will mesh well with Philbin.

Man. I don't know Wanny. I think Dan might mesh well with the Silver Fox over a bottle of wine at Anthony's SFG, but he and Philbin don't seem like they would be on the same page at all. noidea

Re: Dolphins set to hire Marino

Joe has his weaknesses but he strikes me as a guy that respects HOF players and coaches and doesn't let ego get in the way.
Philbin has always welcomed Ex-Fins at practice.and he's been very respectful of Shula as well.
Philbin has difficulty with loud, mouthy, in your face types and Danny is more "low key".
Competitive, intense but low key.
I think they can get along.

I'm not sure it will make any difference on the team's results this year.

Re: Dolphins set to hire Marino

As I said once before, Dan Marino will be advising Tannehill on how to take no **** from his WRs, and how to yell at them and show the correct pass pattern with hand gestures when they screw up a route.  Or he will simply do it himself on the sidelines or run out onto the field during time outs.  Marino will be like the manager going out onto the pitching mound when the fast ball seems to be losing something, and there needs to be a little pep talk.

Re: Dolphins set to hire Marino

When I 1st heard this I thought his "role" wasn't very clearly defined but at worst, even if it's just symbolic, I don't think it's gonna hurt.  Doesn't look like he's trying to be John Elway - but he IS Miami through & through, & ALL about us.

It's also kinda weird - we have a Moreno & THE Marino thumbup.gif.  Hope they both do great things.
