Yeah i find this article hard to believe, other then Josh Gordon who exactly is a speedster on Cleveland? Joe haden and 5th round pick Travis Benjamin are the only 4.3 guys i can think of on that team..  Those are offset by Greg Little and Devon Best who are hardly speedsters themselves.

Oakland being so low on that list seems BS as well, They always draft for speed as a matter of fact all their receivers pretty much run 4.3's, Mcfadden runs a 4.3, Hell even their QB last year  Pryor ran a 4.3..

Other players make up TEAM speed. Defense, OL, TE's etc.... not just WR's

Re: Speed Kills?

Running 40 yards in your under-armor shorts versus getting off the line and getting open 40 yds downfield are two very different things, and that's just in regards to receivers.

Jerry rice and emmit know speed doesn't mean chit. It helps for sure but you dont make the HOF for being fast.

I agree, you don't have to be blazing fast to be great but speed is NEVER a detriment at any postion.
Imagine that along with all his other skills that Jerry Rice also had Randy Moss's speed.
Imagine Emmitt Smith with the speed of say, Bo Jackson...
Dan Marino moving like Steve Young....

Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in today's game.
If he were a 4.5 guy, he'd be Brandon Marshall.
Still very good, but not the best.
He's a superfreak because he runs 4.3

It was just surprising to me that the teams with the fastest players at key positions were among the least successful...

Re: Speed Kills?

I would also like to see the average age of the teams above....

I would surmise that the younger teams in the league will also be some of the fastest.....and that youth would mean the teams are going through a rebuild..... Hence why they suck

Re: Speed Kills?

You never know. Jerry Rice may not have worked as hard as he did if he had blazing speed. Mike Wallace will be dangerous in this league every down he lines up for until he loses a step, he relies on his speed cause that's all he has so when's it starts to go, so will he. Rice was able to play forever because he worked so hard so he could survive without elite speed so who knows. Maybe if he had elite speed he would've relied on it too much and never became the G.O.A.T.
