Dolphins sign Samson Satele

Dolphins sign Samson Satele

We signed him! I personally think Garner would have been a suitable starter, BUT Garner as a starter with Satele as a primary backup OR Satele as a starter with Garner as a primary backup is most definitely an upgrade over what we had. For years we've been subject to a front office that would not make the obvious changes (adding a receiver in '12, an o-lineman last year). Glad to see us bolstering the roster with some of the better talent available.
Somebody gave me a Hickey.

Re: Satele

Have to agree. He might be a sieve, but at least he gets snaps right. And Garner had them right today. But I agree on the Satele as a back up role. That may be what it is, and if so I am great with it. Agree on the activity of our front office. I cant complain over any move they have made. I whined about Fennigan getting 5 mil a year, but it looks like he is worth it!

Re: Satele

Us, OAK and IND got rid of him for a reason.  Training camps have started and he was still out there for a reason.  Just hope he can keep it together long enough to not get our QB killed and our record thrown in the crapper...

Stephen Ross...ur an assclown.
Sell the Dolphins immediately before you completely wreck this franchise.

Re: Satele

Pro Football Focus had Satele ranked as the 32nd best center in the NFL last year.
I'm not sure if that means he was the worst center in the NFL but let's just say he wasn't at the top of the list.

Desperate measures call for desperate signings.
Plan "A" was  Pouncey as the starting center. No way to anticipate Pouncey tearing his hip in June.
Plan "B" was to replace him with someone on the roster. They seem to have exhausted that possibility.
Smith, Arkin Larsen, and even Garner have struggled with the center snaps and not inspired confidence.
Brenner was an unproven possibility but hurt his ankle.
Plan "C": sign an available, healthy free agent veteran center so we signed Satele.
Is this reason to cheer? No, but as far as options, Satele was ... available.

I give the coaching staff and Hickey an "A" for effort  ... results "???"

Re: Satele

I read he only gave up one sack last season but sucked at run blocking. Not sure how many hurries he was responsible for but I do know his, he is a center. He can snap the ball traditionally and shotgun snap it. We will be better off with him in the lineup rather than trying to convert guards and tackles to play center and face constant pressure up the middle because we have a player completely out of position there who is focusing too much on simply completing the snap. Satele is not Mike Pouncey but then again there were people here who thought Pouncey would suck and couldn't play Center in the NFL and at least one of you who wanted Pouncey gone for his role in (I hate the term) Bullygate. I think we will all be anxiously awaiting his healthy return.

Re: Dolphins sign Samson Satele

The front office just needed more time to add the right pieces to the 90+ man roster. An entire offseason and draft to build the roster was not enough.

Whats even funnier is Satele was a 2nd round pick that we got from trading away Welker to the Pats and he is the worst center in the NFL.

Was definitely a swing and miss for a 2nd round pick, can he help us now for 5 or 6 games???

Hmmm... well there are 32 teams in the league so that tells me he is still "starter" quality for that last remaining NFL team .... and better than #33- #64 who would be 2nd string!!!!

The trials of being a Dolphins fan .... Welcome to a new era!! Will it work??

Re: Dolphins sign Samson Satele

He snapped the ball for a playoff team last season so if he can do what he did last season again and the other people on the team elevate their games till Pouncey gets back we will be ok I think. We don't need the #1 center in the league to get to the playoffs and we probably won't need Satele for the whole season either since Pouncey is working his ass off to be ready for week 1 which is probably unlikely but from what I read and hear he looks way ahead of schedule.

Is that what that tells you?
Thanks for that "starter quality" analysis.

Face it, Wanny, he is. And I`ll even throw this in there: He could probably start for most CFL teams and even a few high schools in Texas.

I'm quoting myself here because I feel like you ignored my post. The Colts made the playoffs with Satele in for the whole season, we need him for half.

Re: Satele

Let's clear the air here. I've got no problem at all with Satele
After reading about the daily center / QB exchanges problems,I was the first to point out the need for an experienced center immediately.

Is Samson the answer? Doesn't feel like it. Maybe his best years are behind him or maybe he never had any best years to begin with.
But with Pouncey out, Satele buys us time  And maybe someone else will develop. Or maybe Satele will surprise us and play well.

With the new pay scale, veterans make a lot more money because of tenure but teams are reluctant to pay the vets.
Now the" diamond in the rough" could well be a grizzled old vet a la Colledge.

Re: Dolphins sign Samson Satele

So is this what the Final NINE look like on our OL ?

Albert/ Colledge/ Satele/ Smith/ James

        Turner/Garner/DThomas

WHO IS OUR SWING TACKLE ? Fox isn't cutting it, garner ?
When Pouncey gets back, we probably bounce satele

Re: Dolphins sign Samson Satele

I believe Satele was more succinct.
He believed that  he would have at least 2 regular season games to produce before Pouncey returns.

Satele said this was not his "first rodeo" and he has all the incentive in the world to perform well.

Isn't Satele who we drafted with the 2nd round pick we picked up in the Wes Welker to NE deal?
