Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

Why, looking at our receiving depth listed this morning on the Phinsider, and from what I have seen so far early theres depth as everyone knows at WR, but I like what I see a lot in Binns/Williams, I believe your gonna be forced to keep 4-5 DTs, gotta keep 4 DE, 3-4 RB, my point is if you keep 6 WR, one or maybe two of them will have to step up and work ST punt/kick duties, I don't think they can keep Thigpen. I also think think another long shot not to make the CUT could be Gibson (Big Contract)

Wallace, Hart, Landry, Gibson, Binns, Mattews (Williams)

Plug Williams into the 6 hole, slide Binns Matthews Williams UP, cut Gibby & Thig
Williams Wallace Landry combo on returns

I'd hate to cut Gibson after the season he was having last year, but it depends on his recovery status and how his contract is set up.

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

Unless they definitively slot Thigpen for returns, I would have to agree. Was concerned about that already as he seems to be a hard worker and asset. When he first got here, I thought he was going to be similar to what we expected Miller to be at RB. Only so many spots though. That would be too bad for him, but someone may pick him up with all the positions he can play.

If Gibson is really healed and back to form, I would be shocked to see him cut, even if Landry makes the team. I believe if Gibson is well enough he will be the slot receiver, with Landry being used some also with both hopefully both on the field at times. With Lazor's offense we should see some 4 receiver sets sometimes and with both on the field in addition to Hartline and Wallace, it should be fun to watch! He showed some talent last year and seemed to have great chemistry with Tannehill.

What kind of contract do we have on him or does he even have a contract? Thought he only signed for 1 year last year and not sure how they handle the next season after that. Do they sign those guys to some kind of basic contract so they can practice, while waiting to see if they are healed or what?  I would think they would try to trade him first before cutting him, if they have him under the right contract. But again if he has healed all the way or they expect him to be by early season, I think he stays in my opinion anyways.

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

Gibson signed a 3 year 9.78 mm deal, I think he got a 3mm signing bonus, but only 3.7 Guaranteed, equates to a 3.26 mm deal annually

I agree he can play, but I didn't like how he walked off yesterday with another knee issue, and the bigger question is how they see Binns/Williams/Matthews Vs Gibson

^ This is true.  It is concerning.  I read the icing of his knee and shutting it down for the day in the Training Camp update thread.

The funny thing about this is no one is talking about Daniel Thomas getting cut.

Thigpen is a special teamer, and can play both WR and RB. I think he stays. Too versitile

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

I haven't heard many people talking about him making the team...

Between Miller, Moreno, and the new guy Williams who took reps with the first team, I'd be surprised if Daniel Thomas survives regardless of what happens to Thigpen.

Apparently Damian Williams the wr has been playing very well in practice, and has good speed and experience returning from his USC days. Given his height (and subsequent value as a red zone threat), if he can return kicks as well I bet we keep him over thiggy.

You guys have a great Point on DThomas, conceivably if Daerkwa/ or the other Williams  has an excellent camp & Moreno gets healthy- they could Pop Thomas & conceivably plug Thiggy into the fourth RB spot albeit as a ST

So far Williams (The RB) has shown good stuff along with daerkwa, I was a little surprised to see daerkwa listed abobe Williams on the early depth chart- both coming in as UDFA rooks

Were going to lose some quality players come time to cut to 53, WR, TE, DB, DL being key areas we have good talent that may get away from us. If we could only trade for a decent center until Pouncey makes it back...

Thigpen was average at best on returns last year, I would love to see someone else do it.

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

seriously nate garner, for real, starting C
Satele not the answer
tired of the rotating turnstiles on our OL

I always ask the question of why have depth @ 6-9 OL if when it comes gametime they cant stepup and play

Now they are sliding DThomas out @ RT, maybe an experiment, maybe they don't like what they see early in James

Nah, they like James. They are just moving pieces around right now just to test things out. The Shelley Smith as C experiment is over I believe. 6 botched snaps in 4 days will do that to a guy. If Garner stays healthy he is the starting C for this team. He flattened E Mitchell in one on one drills this morning. He can move and is strong enough to handle the big boys like Wilfork and Dareus with some help.

I believe the starting O Line at the end of the day will be Albert, Colledge, Garner, S Smith, James.
I believe the back ups will be: Fox at T, Brenner G/C, Thomas G/RT, and 1 other guy. I think they carry 8 O-Linemen.

Damien Williams, the UDFA RB is playing lights out in camp. He's passed Gillislee and is starting to create a buzz for himself. I expect him to make the 53 and either Gillislee or Thomas to be gone.

Damian Williams, the WR, has also flashed but WITHOUT pads. Thigpen is on the cusp. He's versatile in that he can play RB and WR, but he really didn't play either position much last year. I don't expect him to challenge either area this season. Unfortunately I think he gets cut as there are plenty of guys who are more solid contributors at regular positions that can punt and kick return. Landry isn't one of them. He's too stiff, no wiggle, to return punts or kicks.

Dante interesting that your completely kicking Turner out of the picture
I hope your right on NateG being able to handle C- im doubtful
Between Thomas/Turner/Smith my least favorite is Smith but he should be able to be effective @ RG
The problem as I see it is the RG will have to be plugged in between NateG & a rook RT

According to what I've read on the practices, Billy Turner has a mean streak and is tough, but doesn't play with good enough leverage. He needs a lot of work on technique. That's why I don't think he's in the mix to start over Shellie Smith or D Thomas.

Nate G had a much better practice today. He's got the physicality and footwork to be a C, but the snap issues are very problematic and need to be solved permanently.

I agree about the RG. Tough spot between a rook at RT and a C that isn't normally a C. Hence why, again, I think Shelley Smith should be the guy there. He's a good RG who has experience and can handle his own while helping the other two on either side of him.

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

I unfortunately see Thigpen getting cut and then going on to be succesful somewhere else. Tom Brady, Drew Bree's, and/or Peyton Manning would make him a star. Unfortunaly here he just doesn't get the opportunities.
As for Binns. I listen to the Phinsiders podcast, read various camp updates, pretty much revolve my day around camp news and I can't remember hearing or reading Armon Binns name once. Not saying it hasn't but Williams, Landry, Hartline, Clay, Matthews these names stick out, Binns..not so much. Would hate to see a young up and comer get cut to keep Binns.
The center position is a head scratcher to me. Why are we trying to convert a T and a couple Gs instead of signing a guy like Satele who started on a playoff team last season and has actually played Center his whole career? I don't have a problem with Brenner getting a look, and Garner getting a look but they've been struggling. We brought in a vet to compete for the LG position and without even having a minicamp he quickly locked down the position. Satele isn't a probowler but he's better than Garner, Brenner, and Smith and keeps us from stretching our O Line depth.
That's all I got, I hope we get this center position fixed soon one way or another.

Personally I'm glad we did it. It's still not a position of strength as Satele is a free agent for a reason but he's a vet and obviously and most importantly a center.

Re: Early Call - I Say Thigpen Is Out

Thigpen is still list with the 1st team on kickoff and punt returns, 1st debt chart out.

Pouncey saying he could be ready for the start of season and is ahead of schedule. Doctors got to clear him though....
