well this isnt news to me but it does disapoint me

I am not clear if this was brought up but yesterday  msn and Yahoo  had the NFL 'S teams biggest playmaker .  and it saddens me that the Dolphins  best player  was at #30  .  I m not sure but isn't it  clear  that most people have the dolphins as the second worst team in terms of talent..

with the LB James leaving for Cleveland  it seems like Miami cant keep really good players long enough to make a dynasty .

part of what I dislike is when the thee stooges took over  Miami started to create more holes then they filled  and that has set us back 2 or 3 years.

back when Saban took over  we haven't built a complete team  so  what I want to know  is ,  after  wining the AFC East that one year   it seems like  we have tried to fix both sides of the ball when maybe  we should have rebuilt the offense  then draft defense the next year .   Is  this  figment of my  imagination  or  has this been part of the problem.

only reason I said anything  is  I am sure how long  it should take  to rebuild   a franchise , when t seems like most teams take 3 or 4 years  but  I am not sure which method of drafting and using vet players  would anyone else around here  would use to rebuild.

The Dolphins have been "rebuilding" for a couple decades now.  Wannedstadt absolutely ruined the team and it has never recovered.  The front office has been completely incompetent for a long...long...time.

I go back to Shulas last few years. He drafted HORRIBLY. That, to me, was the beginning of the downfall of the franchise. He kept the team afloat with aged FA pickups and had Marino to sling the ball around still, but there was no player development by Coach Shula in his last 4 or 5 years at the helm.

JJ did bring in a lot of talented D players and O-Linemen. What he never could do was bring in enough weapons for Marino or find that RB he needed to balance things out with Dan the Man on that side of the ball. He also didn't stick around long enough to get the team where he wanted it to be. JJ inherited an over the hill team that was low on speed and grit. He left part way thruogh the rebuild, realizing how long it would actually take AND that he would rather be fishing.

Im sure there are a gizzilion factors:

1: Trading 2 1st rounders and a 3rd round for a RB who ended up quitting the team 2 years later
2: Trading about a half dozen 2nd rounders for QB's that ended up sucking
3: Hiring sh#tting coaches who end up getting fired after 3 seasons for the next sh%tty coach

And no stability at coaching or the QB position.

Once Ricky Williams came on board the Dolphins were just a QB away from being Super Bowl ready. Wannstadt completely wasted that window of opportunity.

Ricky went off for 1850 yards that first season and Miami didn't even make the playoffs.

TOUR    you pretty much hit the nail on the head.   as far as coaches go  I wished we could have  hired  Steve Mariuchi  or Mike Martz .   the one thing I did like about Wanny  was our players respected him  a heck of a lot more then they did Cam Cameron  or Tony Sparano.

my question  is  was there another coach or a better one out there when Dave was hired.?

Exactly. I think we overestimated the talent on that team. RW was everything we could have hoped for and more that first season. We had Chris Chambers on the outside at the time, and a young Randy McMike at TE. They were good pieces, but they weren't GREAT pieces. It wasn't like we had Irvin and Novacek alongside Emmit. We also didn't have anyone CLOSE to Aikman at QB.

Our D? Fast, talented, great in the secondary with Surtain and Madison alongside Brock Marion at S. All pros with Zach and JT. Stout guy in the middle with TimBow ... but the rest of the D unit was poor. VERY Poor. No depth either. Hence why the team faded in the last quarter of the season so often and when they DID make the playoffs, were too short on talent, explosiveness, and depth to make a deep run.

In short, the dolphins of that era were a good team, but were far from SB ready.
