FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

Honestly, the fish have been so active in FA they are tough to figure out what they will do here -

I say draft Austin then trade Bess. I don't believe Trufant or Rhodes are that much better than CBs we can find in the 2nd or 3rd round. One more explosive player like Austin and we could potentially have the scariest passing game in the league. Why pass up the chance to land another guy who can score from anywhere? I don't think the O-line is complete, the DBs all have ?s at this point. Complete the WR rebuild this year and focus on defense the rest of the way.

No QB in the first round? I gotta believe there is at least one.

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

I think if Patterson lands with the right team that's not expecting much from him the 1st year he could be an exceptional receiver in the pro's not even Austin runs as well as he does in the open field, that said Miami runs or expects it's receivers to be able to read a defense and Patterson can't from what I hear, I also hear he has a bit of Vontae Davis in him, we all know how that worked out for Davis with Philbin.

I admired Patterson ability ever since Gonzorot found him.

I'm all for Austin at 12, I think both San Fran and St. Louis are both after him, how hard there willing to go I guess we find out. Both have a bunch of picks... it's going to get interesting...

Those teams I'm not to sure how he fits but with this Dolphins team Austin is the guy, when they handed Wallace 12 million I knew getting Austin would be the perfect compliment.

Not really sure why they didn't keep Reggie Bush and move him to slot, he's a 4.3 guy and can eat up space??? Not good enough receiver? Clean break force Miller to think of himself as the guy?

I think there could be at least two but with the moves made over the last week (Flynn, Palmer, Kolb) not sure where they are going to fall. I could see teams pulling an Aaron Rogers and grabbing one to groom behind a vet. Could also see teams trading back into the first round in the bottom half of the first to select one. And you could still see a team in the top 8 pick Geno.

Agree...Patterson is a more explosive receiver. If Austin has so much big play ability why did he only average 11 yards per catch? Patterson averaged 16.9. Of course as a Georgia fan I would not mind seeing us get Tavarres King who averaged 22.6 per catch. He is a 6' tall receiver who runs great routes and and would really fit in Philbins system well. OH, and we can get him in the third or fourth round!

So Star is on the board and we are reaching for Trufant? I hope the hell this doesn't happen and would prefer to trade back but if we are going to reach, would prefer Cooper and also surprised that you don't have Eifert as a #1.

Good greif ...

Patterson over Austin ... A Tackle or CB before Patterson OR Austin.  A playmaking TE over Austin.  Heck, I'll even say it, a DT or DE OVER AUSTIN.

I think we go DT in the first round (Starks and Solia's contract are both up next year)...   even maybe trade back to the later part of the first round for a Sylvester Williams.  We can use our boat load of picks to move up and down the middle rounds.

if not I say take the chance on the most electrifying player in the draft, and we all know who that is.

Yes too all of this.  Except maybe playmaking TE, I think we have that now.  That being said, I would still take the blank space made my removing the playmaking TE from you quote, over Austin.

It has to be OT, OG, or DE at 12....any of the 3 OTs, Warmack, Cooper, Woerner, Ansah, or Jones. You win the game on the line of scrimmage.

You might add Fluker to that list

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

As has been discussed, Martin is moving to LOT  and that means we don't have a ROT.
Cooper and Warmack are strictly guards.

Fluker is the highest rated Right Offensive Tackle in the draft. By all accounts he's a massive 340 pound guy but also extremely solid (unlike Jerry)
Because he's a mauler type blocker the rumor is that he doesn't fit our zone blocking scheme.
I think that stuff is nonsense and if he's our guy at 12, it's a good pick.

Bill Polian really likes this guy and rates him higher than Lane Johnson, he is a massive guy, not overweight like you pointed out in Jerry, and still agile.  Polian said he'd have no problem picking him at 12.

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

I agree that we need an OT, but Cooper is much much better than Fluker - a top 10 prospect vs top 50 -, and a much better scheme fit as well. Also Jerry has historically been a better tackle than guard for us, and he fits much better there in our zone scheme. If we took Fluker at 12, we'd be taking him out of fear that we can't find another decent tackle - if we took Cooper, it'd be because we felt he was bpa. 12 is high for a guard IMO, but I'd rather take a great guard and scheme fit because he was bpa than a mediocre tackle because we desperately needed one. And if we come out of the draft without a starting tackle, we've still got the space to sign Winston.

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

As best I can remember Jerry played guard for us, and Winston is still free to sign with other teams.

The road to the draft is filled with hype. Cooper is "perhaps" a better scheme fit than Fluker but that's a matter of debate with Polian and Kiper chiming in now for Fluker at 12.

It's obvious that you like Cooper but to say that Fluker is a top 50 pick and a mediocre tackle prospect when his name is coming up as a legitimate selection at 12 is odd.

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

Jerry has played guard for us, but has also played tackle during the 2011 season I believe, and I remember him playing pretty well. However, he just doesn't fit as a run-blocker in this zone scheme. He isn't athletic enough to get to the 2nd level.

As for Cooper being "perhaps" a better fit... he is a better fit. A much better fit. We are looking for athletic linemen, Cooper is far and away the most athletic in the draft. He is 6'2 311. Fluker is 6'5 339. Fluker moves well for a guy his size, but Cooper's strength is pulling. Right now the only effective puller on our team is Pouncey, and you need someone to pull to get to the 2nd level in a zone running scheme.

Also, it was a little irresponsible for me to call Fluker a top 50 pick when I'd only looked at one site, Walterfootball. They have Cooper at 11 and Fluker at 44. Most other sites have Cooper in the top 15 and Fluker in the top 30.

The point I'm making is that if we're going to take a G or OT in the first, we should take the better player. I believe a guard who can pull is as big of a need as a tackle, so if we're going OL I'd like it to be Cooper (assuming Johnson is off the board).

RE: FoxSportsNext Mock Draft 3.0

Even with our offensive line problems, unless it's a Left Tackle I'm starting to have a hard time thinking were using the #12 pick on a guard or right tackle. We could sign Winston for 4 or 5 million a year, just because he wants a multi year contract we don't and use pick #12, or trade for Brandon Albert with a 2nd round pick, yes his salary is high but a new deal could be worked out, it just doesn't make much sense to me to use the #12 for either a RT or guard both cheap in FA.

I know you can't get players like Cooper or Warmack in FA but still there high ceiling is 6 million, David DeCastro last year was just as highly rated and fell to 24. I personally wouldn't be disappointed if we did take either player I just have a hard time seeing it happen.

Milliner falls to them or starts to slip to where it only cost them a third or fourth to move up he will be a Dolphin. Possible
Lane Johnson slips they may even give up a 3rd and 5th. Don't think there willing to give up a 2nd or that could just be me..Possible
If Rhodes was a better zone cover corner than everyone thinks it could be him, from what I hear he is not though. mmmm I think not, but what do I know
Kenny Vaccaro Dolphins taking a long hard look at him. Possible
Tyler Eifert knock on him he's not worth #12 don't believe that. Possible
Tavon Austin everyone already knows what I think. possible
Both Cooper and Warmack possible but unlikely
Trade down to pick up an extra 2nd possible
