My ideal offseason

Posted: 1/21/2013 4:05 PM

My ideal offseason

Bored so I figured why not.

Resign: Sean smith
Let walk: jake long, hartline, bush, Starks
Release: Patterson, Marshall, incognito ( save roughly 14.2 million)
Trade: 5th for Rolando McClain LB Oakland

Free agents: Vollmer OT New England, Jennings WR Green Bay, Talib CB New England, Gholston S San Francisco, Cooke TE Tennessee, Fred Davis TE Washington( low cost contract), might still have enough money to get Wallace from Pittsburgh.

Draft: 1st: warmack OG Alabama
2nd: Hopkins WR Clemson
2nd: Lacy RB Alabama
3rd: Lemonier DE Auburn
3rd: Arthur Brown LB Kansas State
4th Dobson WR Marshall
5th: Glennon QB NC State or trade

Move Odrick into DT to help get more pressure up the middle.

RE: My ideal offseason

my idea offseason would be to bring back Welker and LET HIM RETIRE A FIN sign Jennings or Wallace draft 3 cornerbacks 1 safety . sign a vet de and a vet olineman and draft a big physical tight end.

No way is Welker a Dolphin, everything he accomplished he did as a Patriot.

Honestly, enough with dumbass Rolando McClain.

The guy has sucked. And, on top of that, he is a moron and a budding criminal. No thanks.

Resign: Sean smith (Should do this)
Let walk: jake long, hartline (Seriously???) , bush, Starks (No way. Not if he signs reasonably)
Release: Patterson, Marshall, incognito (All three stay.  Incognito is a starter and the other two are for nickle, dime and depth and don't cost a lot)
Trade: 5th for Rolando McClain LB Oakland (Good freaking greif really? What is GODS NAME has he done to deserve such high praise?)

Free agents: Vollmer OT New England (Will be re-signed by Pats), Jennings WR Green Bay (Injury concern, rather throw the sink at Bowe), Talib CB New England (McClain AND Talib in the same locker room and in South Beach, yeah that'll work out well), Gholston S San Francisco (Definite Upgrade to Carroll.  Good idea.  Won't happen.  Will want too much), Cooke TE Tennessee, Fred Davis TE Washington( Possibly one or the other, definately not getting both), might still have enough money to get Wallace from Pittsburgh (Are you kidding me?  There's something called a salary cap AND you have to pay your draft picks still. If Miami gets any of the big 3 WR FA's in wallace, bowe or jennings they won't sign a second from that group.  THAT would be poor cap management. Dwayne Bowe is the best of the 3).

Draft: 1st: warmack OG Alabama (So you are a bama fan I see.  No to an OG in the first freaking 12 picks of the draft)
2nd: Hopkins WR Clemson (WHO?  Patterson or DaRique Rodgers. No more slot guys playing WR)
2nd: Lacy RB Alabama (Wasting a 2nd round pick on a RB when there will be plenty of good options down the draft board. Oh wait, he's from 'Bama too)
3rd: Lemonier DE Auburn (What Miami does from this point forth is cool with me)
3rd: Arthur Brown LB Kansas State
4th Dobson WR Marshall
5th: Glennon QB NC State or trade

Move Odrick into DT to help get more pressure up the middle (He already plays DT on passing downs.  I do think he is better suited to play DT in a 4-3 and if they let Starks walk he will be shifted inside).

Re: My ideal offseason

First off, no i am not a bama fan but they do have some good players.  I am a Miami University and UNC fan (From Carolina).

Seriouly let Hartline walk? absolutly!  I watched him get pushed to the ground against New England and rolled 5 yards on a slant route which caused a sack on Tannehill.....and he scored about as many touchdowns as you and i did this year.  For the price....No Thanks!!!

Ingocnito is a penalty waiting to happen.  He made the pro bowl but only because he was a fill in.. And most inportantly he doesnt seem to fit the scheme Philbin wants to run... (light mobile lineman)

McClain is a shot in the dark... New England has been successful by taking talented players with troubled past and making it work.... they have a pretty solid model of effeciency up there.... why not!!!  (obviously at low cost)

WR- whoever we get will be a massive upgrade over our current situation.  Jennings knows the system and "IF" we cut dead space like patterson and marshall we could have enough for two of the top three wr's.

DRAFT:
Why not take the best player available and i havent been impressed with any of the other options so take a stud lineman.

Last time i checked Hopkins is a speed guy who can stretch the field with one of the best YPC in college.  I have seen him play and he has big play ability written all over him.

Lacy is a stud!!!!  he looked good last year even with Richardson headlining.  Daniels Thomas has been a dissapointment and doesnt know how to run through contact.  I know RB's can be found anywhere but i was really impressed during the NC Game with him ability to make tacklers miss.

Just my opinion though!!!!

RE: My ideal offseason

Think they would want Cooper over Warmack he fits the zone blocking scheme. I do have a feeling Warmack will be drafted in the top 15, Cooper at the bottom of the 1st round or very early 2nd. Don't think we will get either

Don't know what kind of money Hartline will ask for, he may never see another 1000 yard season so he probably wants to cash in now. Don't think the Dolphins will be giving him 5 million so he may walk if he can find a team willing. Better to give Jennings 6 or 6.5 IMO, Draft 2 very high and TE

Need cornerbacks and even thou Marshall wasn't very good and didn't last long and Patterson had knee problems when we got him you have to find someone as good or better before you can cut them, Patterson should get a good look next season before he is discarded. May have to franchise Smith and pay a decent price for 1 in FA and still have to draft 1 or 2 but not until we worked on the offense 1st.

Jake Long is a problem, so cutting Incognito just to save 5 mill may not be in the cards, If we can't resign Long and can't find a replacement in FA that means spending 1 of top 2 or 3 picks on a LT and were not moving forward as a team IMO. Anyone thinking we can get by Martin at LT and Garner at RT is dreaming. Then there's John Jerry, yeah he's cheap and strong but he just doesn't get it and is a liability. Just ask Dallas what killed there season last year, OL and Tony Romo running for his life.

Lacy is a stud and is exactly the kind of running back we could use to spell Miller next year. I just don't see it. Lacy is a 2nd round pick and is not needed as badly as WR CB or offensive line help. Bush is more than likely gone so it's Miller, Thomas, Thigpen and maybe they pick up a kid that not been drafted and give him a try.

RE: My ideal offseason

I think I read John Jerry gave up 2 sacks last season. The season before he filled in for Jake at LT for a period of time and did good. Not really sure why he gets dogged so badly. Yeah he comes in over weight but when it comes to play he gets it done. Playing at RG last season he was a bit out of place as a pulling guard but he did what he was asked. IMO he would be a good RT and when he leaves Miami he will be another player who gets away and excels with somebody else.

RE: My ideal offseason

Jerry showed up to camp 25 pounds overweight and out of shape, guess that means no off season workout program for him, he's getting paid 800k and if he could show some desire and heart could make 2 to 3 million a year or more, that's a big incentive and he looked like he showed no awareness of his situation, that speaks a bit to his state of mind and you wonder how he does at film study, not that offensive lineman have to be that smart but you don't want them to be clueless either.

Pro Football Focus ranked Jerry 49th out of 81 guards Jerry rated out as a -2.7 and while he rated in the positive for pass blocking at 3.8 he rated very badly in run blocking at -8.8

Being an offensive lineman in the NFl is not all about how many sacks you give up. We still run the ball more than we pass. Hopefully he stay's around and gets himself into better shape and works on his blocking he certainly has the power to be much better.

I do believe you our right he will be given the chance to play RT if we don't pick up one in the draft.

Of course if he shows up out of shape with a indifferent attitude again he may be traded or just cut.

I am not saying he has played at a pro bowl level or he has the most discipline on the team but the same thing was said about Paul Solia once. I do believe John Jerry is a Tackle and if he gets to settle in at Tackle he will excel. Unfortunately it usually takes a contract year for some players to keep focused during the offseason but I think this is his year.

RE: My ideal offseason

I hope so, it would be one less thing to worry about on a team that seems to have opened a lot of holes. FA should close a some of them, hopefully the plan Ireland and Philbin are working on works out, we could use a big year to get everyone excited again.

I like John Martin and I think he will be fine once he bulks up but I think between Jerry and Garner we had a RT and should have went for a RG...I only have the time to do this because the lights went out on the SuperBowl. Looks like the last Superbowl in the SuperDome.

RE: My ideal offseason

We have some money to spend in free agency so there may be better options, we will just have to wait and see. Nate is a FA so we would have to resign him. All these playoff and super bowl teams are scoring a lot of points, 30+ guess it's what the league wants to make the games more exciting.
