Any shot we sign Kenny Phillips at Safety

Any shot we sign Kenny Phillips at Safety

Love this kid former 1st round pick from the U and he's only 26 years old. Kid can ball and is one of the best safeties in the league when healthy. He is an UFA what do you guys think? He and Reshad Jones would be a nice tandem.

Id honestly love to draft one of the Georgia Safeties in round 3 or 4 to challenge Chris Clemons this season, Shawn Williams or Baccari Rambo would look nice in a fins uniform.

I know Clemons doesn't make many Interceptions but he is a solid tackler and a leader in our secondary.. He is the guy i saw making coverage adjustments in our secondary and with his speed and tackling ability i would give him one more shot to fight for his starting job against a relatively high draft pick..

I wonder if Major Wright is a free agent because that is one guy i REALLY like at FS when he comes available.

Kenny is the best available safety in free agency this offseason and I feel he is one of the top 5 safeties in the league when healthy. I just don't think we will have the money to resign our guys bring in a big name receiver and still sign Kenny

We've got other priorities IMO. Clemons will be cheap, played well, and I'd rather keep our safeties consistent rather than have another starting duo like we do every year. I like the player, but pass.

Kenny would be a major upgrade from Clemons but the Phins will settle for the cheaper route as always.

He would be an upgrade, but not a major one. Clemons played well this season, keeping just about everything in front of him which is his job. Also, Clemons has experience playing with Jones, and the more the season went on the better their communication was and fewer bigger plays were given up.

Also your as always comment is pretty unfounded: Dansby, Brandon Marshall, Richard Marshall, and Burnett were not cheap (particularly Dansby and B. Marshall). Wake & Fields signed big contract extensions too.

You've just gotta pick your battles. WR, TE, CB, OL, and DE are all bigger holes that we need to fill through Free Agency. Clemons is solid and cheap, and allows us to address other needs with our cap space.

I'm not to sure we need to worry about DE this year either Oliver Vernon who is only 22 should be giving a bit of time to grow into that position. He made a few plays this year hopefully he has a great offseason and turns into a beast. We also have Derrick Shelby two young guys who need this off season for development.

Clemons was solid if unspectacular so I do think he should be resigned if the price is right and it would be a great time to extend Jones contract so we keep him around a while.

Also like Gonzo's approach to pick a safety in 3rd or 4th round if they have already taken care of business on the offense and found another CB or 2 in FA. I think that pick could also be used to try to find some speed and cover ability at linebacker someone to push Misi.

I can rarely tell you I want a defensive player in the draft in January. My past 3 were Cromartie, Cromartie, and Sean Smith, this year I want Rambo. I don't know if he will be there in the 3rd and depending on how free agency goes it could be a hard sell in the 2nd.
