Really are we any better? No heart no desire today

I saw a team in the Miami Dolphins that didn't want to be there today. no desire, no heart. I saw little pride.  New England scaled it down otherwise they would've beaten us 49-0. This team is stuck in the mud.  Look at the last few years.
7-9 in 2009
7-9 in 2010
6-10 in 2011
7-9 in 2012.................Now that is progress! Puhleeze folks don't sugar coat this crap. This team is stuck in being a so so team. They lack many parts and I don't see them getting much better with the moron Ireland at the helm. Please fire yourself Ireland..

Our Defense is average at best. Our Offense is a total joke. Tannehill is an average QB that will be no better than Jay Fielder. He is not a franchise qb folks. Our offensive line is a disaster. Our WIde Receivers are not worthy to start on any other team in the NFL. We have no Tight End. Bush is not the back we need. It's a pile of crap anyway you look at it crap smells like crap. Our Coach Philbin? Seriously what has he done to make it any better. O yes there is hope light at the end of the tunnel. We said that with Tony Sparano and Chad Henne in 2009. Same old Dolphins we are a at best 8-8 maybe 9-7 team next year. So, get ready for another year of CRAP in 2013.

I am so sick and tired of losing and not being in the playoffs and getting my ass whipped by New England and finishing 7-9 or worse. THE DOLPHINS HAVE NOT MATTERED SINCE DAN MARINO....  WE live in the past and that for now is all we can hang our hats on THE PAST............Thanks Ross and Ireland. Look at your empty stadium each week. NOBODY BELIEVES OR CARES.......You have to build a winner and WIN and be good and Dominate again. When will it happen Ireland? When? For how long O' dear Lord for how long do we suffer as Miami Dolphin fans? I am off to watch Super Bowl 7 and 8.

Re: Really are we any better? No heart no desire today

Not sure this warranted a thread by itself when you could have just vented in the game thread but I'll bite.

You're obviously frustrated.  It's been tough being a Dolphins fan.

What do you think it takes to build a successful, winning franchise for the long term, not just the short term?

What steps should they have taken differently to build that winner?

I'm not talking about going back and playing monday morning QB in the draft because hindsight is 20/20.

I believe that winning franchises have 3 things: great coaching, great players that can execute that system and a winning culture from the top down.

1.  You need to have stability with your coaching staff.  We've had more turnover than about everybody in the NFL.

2.  See number 1.  We've changed defensive systems, offensive systems, blocking systems and are constantly in a state of flux finding the players to execute those systems.

3.  Character, integrity, hard work, team first mentality, competiveness.  These are all things Lombardi preached like the gospel.

The jury is still out on our coaching.  I like Philbins attention to detail and his aggressiveness.  I think he was pretty limited with what he had.

We have some pieces in place for the 2nd part: Jones, Pouncey, Wake, Hartline as a #2 and Soliai.  The jury is still out on RTH.  Let's give him a couple years and some weapons before you and everyone else throws him under the bus.  I like what I've seen out of Thigpen, Bess as a slot, Martin post 49ers, Vernon making some impact plays, the potential of Miller.

One thing to remember with this team, they are young.  The 2nd youngest in the NFL.

I think with a G, TE, CB and WR and we can be a playoff team.  A lot depends on RTH and his ability to become a franchise QB.

In terms of culture, I'm glad we got rid of Marshall and Davis.  I think Incognito needs to go.  I know it's been painful without Marshall and he puts up a lot of stats but he is a selfish loser.  He didn't help his Bears make the playoffs with a championship caliber defense and a much better QB situation.

I'm not sure if we'll get there under the current regime but I think we're as close as we've been in a long time.

It doesnt matter what chokesjd says, when you only make a bitch thread after a loss and nothing after a win, you're a nothing with zero credibility.

And all you do is rip people that are objectively critical of this never ending mediocrity.

Where's your credibility?

sadly many dolphin fans love the underacheiving team  .  i feel for the O.P   because  lets face it  not one person on offense  including Tanny  are the caliber  that can take us to the playoffs.

some people will make excusses   for how bad we are  regardless if we went  3- 13  or 8-8
we  need superstars  and seeing a empty stadium  and horible all white unis every game  and having a  the sorriest gm  its no wonder  Miami has  become a graveyard  for players  careers to fizzle  .  agood ball club is where players come to and they have a great career instead of the opposite.banghead

Re: Really are we any better? No heart no desire today

Obviously Ireland needs to go. Look at the GM's and Coaches let go. Some stiffs but a lot of them have much better resumes than what we got here;

I was a big fan of Philbin and Sherman but I think both were disappointments. You knew after listening to Philbin talk the first time that motivation was not gonna be a strength but you thought: "the man has brains and Sherman had a decent pro resume. Some guys get it done cerebral some force of will. Philbin and Sherman showed very little in the way of innovation, creativity or any signs of motivational abililty the whole season. !8 points a game? In this pass happy league? Not exactly Sparano ball but close. I can't stand Ireland but you have to believe Philbin wanted to get rid of Marshal and Davis and then when you combine that with Ireland's trading and drafting skills (one of those 3rd round picks for Egnew) and you got a mess. (not withstanding the "Philbin wanted Egnew" rumor)

Then Philbin says the main problem this year was "lack of turnovers". Come on coach!
Is that why you went 7-9? Because the ball didn't bounce your way? Way to go making an abstract coaching excuse. I'm sure Reid, Whisenhunt, Lovie Smith , Norv Turner, Chan Gailey and Fritz Shurmur are all kicking themselves because they didn't get enough turnovers.

We were all quick to defend Philbin including myself because Ireland has been so bad but if Ireland is staying and Philbin's mission next year is to get more turnovers where we headed?

We're still gonna get excited as the draft approaches and we sign FA's but unless Ireland leaves and Philbin grows a sack it'll be business as usual next year.

Wanny, I think the problem is that the OP will post such scathing and sky is falling posts when the team loses, but doesn't comment on anything positive with regards to any progress the team has shown, EVER.  It's one thing to want the team to be better and to acknowledge they are not playoff caliber (that's obvious), it's another to constantly keep chiming in about how the TEAM SUCKS and can't do anything right and the 1st year coach sucks and the D sucks and the O sucks and the rookie QB sucks and management sucks and the fans suck and the uniforms suck and everything sucks.

That's bogus.  Yes, Ireland is a waste and I hope he is canned, but I also don't think Philbin doesn't have the Cahones to get his guys, as you mentioned.  He got RTH drafted did he not?  the 18 points a game.  Did you watch this team?  Did you see the inept play at WR?  Did you see a lack of playmakers on both sides of the ball?  Does that fall on Philbin or the guy who is buying the groceries, Ireland?  Did you also not see improvement in the O-line, some flashes of future talent in RTH, excellent D - Line and LB play, and a safety in Reshad Jones that looks like the real deal?  7-9 is unacceptable.  Know what else is unacceptable?  Firing a coach after season 1 when he had little to no tools to work with.

(I don't disagree with the sentiment that Ireland has not produced playmakers and that I also think he is in over his head as GM).

Our Defense is average at best (Our Defense was top ten in points allowed, the only stat that matters.  Not only is that good enough to compete it's good enough to be a playoff contender, IF there was a competent offense on the other side). Our Offense is a total joke. Tannehill is an average QB that will be no better than Jay Fielder (You can already tell this after 1 rookie season where he had little to no weapons to throw to?  Glad you are a prophet.  Did you predict the end of the world like the Mayans did as well?  Didn't work out now did it?). He is not a franchise qb folks. Our offensive line is a disaster (The line is FAR from a disaster.  Teams in Chicago, Green Bay, Cleveland, and even the NY Giants would love to have this O-line.  There are holes, but the line as a whole, wasn't horrible). Our WIde Receivers are not worthy to start on any other team in the NFL. We have no Tight End. (Agreed with these points, but yet Tannehill will never be a Franchise QB?  How about giving him some weapons over the next year or two and THEN see if he fails to call him a bust shall we?) Bush is not the back we need. It's a pile of crap anyway you look at it crap smells like crap. Our Coach Philbin? Seriously what has he done to make it any better. So, get ready for another year of CRAP in 2013. (Sparano and Henne were not the answer.  hindsight is 20/20.  Quit comparing Philbin to Sparano.  That's an embarrassing comparison that no one who knows anything about football would ever make).

I am so sick and tired of losing and not being in the playoffs and getting my ass whipped by New England and finishing 7-9 or worse. THE DOLPHINS HAVE NOT MATTERED SINCE DAN MARINO. (Actually, that's not true.  They made the playoffs 2 of the 3 Feidler years and went 10-6 the year they missed out with him at QB.  They were relevant then). ...  WE live in the past and that for now is all we can hang our hats on THE PAST............Thanks Ross and Ireland. Look at your empty stadium each week. NOBODY BELIEVES OR CARES.......You have to build a winner and WIN and be good and Dominate again (How does one 'rebuild'?  They changed the HC and coaching staff, they drafted a potential franchise QB inspite of your personal opinion of him, and they are in a favorable position in terms of salary cap and draft picks this off-season.  I don't like Ireland either, can't stand him, BUT this team is poised to take the next step.  The basis for a competitive playoff team is there.  O-Line, Defensive Front 7, safety play, RB's and a young learning growing QB who has less than 2 years TOTAL experience as a starter in both college and the NFL.  The dolphins last rebuild failed under Parcells, Ireland and Sparano.  That cannot be denied, but let's not run Philbin and co out of town until they've had a chance to bring in players that fit their scheme draft some playmakers). When will it happen Ireland? When? For how long O' dear Lord for how long do we suffer as Miami Dolphin fans? I am off to watch Super Bowl 7 and 8. (Quit with the melodramatics.  Frustrated?  Yes, many of us are. Know what though?  It's only football.  As much as I love the Miami Dolphins, I don't 'suffer' when they lose.  You have a propencity to post comments that are perpetually negative and show no perspective whatsoever. Try posting some positive stuff when they happen once in awhile, you'll feel better about life in general and people might take you as a more serious and objective poster rather than someone who comes onto the forums to just flame threads).

As a season ticket holder FROM MASSACHUSETTS from 99-09, i think anyone who questions my fanhood is a huge toolshed. I havent been toa game in 3 years, except for in NY in 11, so to say I'm happy with losing seasons is a lie. But, sure, praise someone who only posts after losses like a coward. I'll be here after wins AND losses.
