Swimming recruiting?

Swimming recruiting?

Checked out swimming recruiting rankings.   Really amazed how well Georgia has recruiting and how seemingly poorly we are recruiting.  Georgia dominates top 20 swimmers.

Any thoughts on our swimming recruiting?

Hadn't checked out how the men are doing, but wow....uga women are going to be a dynasty.

Heard uga swim coach Jack Baurele was on ATL sports talk radio. That right there is incredible, since he's been coaching in Athens since '79, and I can't remember him EVER been interviewed live on radio before.

To me this begs a different question.  Now I don't know much about Georgia Swimming but I don't think of them being a swimming power especially not prior to the last 4 or 5 years.  So what has changed this guy has been there for 30 years.

Another thought also I know that Auburn has been successful in recruiting foreign athletes this is especially obvious at this time of year with the Olympics going on.

I guess you are saying that Schmitt is able to put a lot of points on the board.  That explains why they may have had a good team during that time, but doesn't explain the recruiting that is going on.

I believe she's uga's first individual gold medalist.(  At least, in swimming. )

Their pool is 15 years old, so I really can't say. Why does any program get better ? Often it's to fill a vacuum , from when other, more successful programs use to hold the top spot. noidea

If Missy Franklin ends up in Athens, that'll be a ton of star power for their team. Nothing attracts a crowd like gold.

RE: Swimming recruiting?

I think this is a classic case of a "little" knowledge being a dangerous thing.

UGA women actually have 4 more SEC titles than Auburn women and 1 less NCAA. They won 3 of each before Auburn ever won its first. UGA won the NCAA in 1999, 2000, 2001-Auburn won 2002, 2003, 2004-UGA won 2005-Auburn won 2006 and 2007. I think every time Auburn won UGA finished 2nd. And they have finished 2nd the last 2 years as well.

In the SEC UGA has won 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012 Auburn won 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008

I'm not saying Auburn has or hasn't declined. I don't know much of anything about swimming or swimming recruiting. But I doubt many of you all do either, so I think it could be a bit dangerous to start scrutinizing things. I'm sure there are a few knowledgeable swimming people around here that could help us though.

RE: Swimming recruiting?

I personally believe we're running out of David Marsh's recruits quickly. I'm very concerned about the direction our program is headed. I don't know what it will take, but he was a  master recruiter and coach. The jury is still out on our current coach.
