Joker resigned yesterday

Joker resigned yesterday

Anyone know the back story behind this one? He said "personal reasons", but that is usually just the stock answer. Chris Leak was promoted to take his spot coaching the receivers.

Nevermind, found this article. It says there were possible recruiting violations.

The recruiting violation thing was retracted by McMurphy via twitter, real good journalism there. I guess we won't know what the personal reasons were for a while.

I think the recruiting violation was what did it

I think McMurphy retracted his tweet that Joker was forced to resign under the pressure of recruiting violations. I think the report of violations are probably accurate. Some have speculated that the violations are not significant and nothing Joker should have left for. I suspect there is something more going on here. Time will probably tell.

I hated to hear it. I thought UF was a good place for him to lick his wounds and regroup for another run at the HC gig.

I am not sure he would get or should get another HC job. I suspect if he demonstrated he could be a top OC somewhere else, he should get that shot again. Otherwise, I thought being a WR coach was a good gig for him. I would have liked seeing him do the OC thing again, IF he was successful. I did not want to see him fail, again.

I get what you're saying and agree. Not sure how he did here is a good a assessment of his HC abilities though. This is a tough job and a tough conference to do it in, we really needed a guy that had the ability to think outside of the box. As great of a coach as Brooks was, he kind of hit the proverbial wall.

Re: Joker resigned yesterday

I think Coach Brooks hit the proverbial wall because you knew he was going to leave. He related well to recruits and often was the closer but you knew he was going to leave. But he had Joker as OC and the guy did a great job. Besides the Andre years, he and Sanders made Hartline a very good QB for part of his junior and senior years. I questioned the firing of several of Coach Brooks' assistants and then the performance of some of the replacements though I did not air it out on the net. The perception that recruiting had to improve greatly for their fortunes to rise was correct. UK is a tough job and t he only guy who has taken it on in the right way has been Coach Stoops. Coach Brooks and Coach Claiborne both did good rebuilding jobs and even Mumme was the right fit offensively for a brief moment. Bottom line is-you can't aim low, you gotta recruit and you have to outwork everyone else to climb.

I think Joker can be a force as someone's OC still, but does he even want to.

Too bad for Joker, I always thought he was a good person.

I had a one-on-one with Mumme a couple months after you guys smoked us, and came away thinking he was a good person also.  It was an interesting exchange, I will share it if anybody here cares.

Re: Joker resigned yesterday

I read this morning that there was a recruiting violation, contact during the no-contact period. Iffy as to whether it was "incidental" or accidental but it was reported to the NCAA by someone from the U ...supposedly. Don't think Fla will get in any trouble but it may have been a basis for firing who knows. WR Ryan Sousa, a former teammate of UK QB prospect Tucker Israel, was devastated by the news about his position coach. Florida fans on one board were mixed on their reaction, some praising his contributions but others wondering why the receivers weren't better or why they didn't get this prospect or that one-geez.. Most forget that he was also their RC and given the violation, probably unforgivable.

Re: Joker resigned yesterday

I think Joker is a fine WR coach. I doubt he is the best at assessing potential and talent, however. I also suspect that contact was going to be hard to explain. A "bump" in the hallway of a school or on the periphery of campus that last about ten seconds is not a problem. I think this was something more. For minor infractions, he MIGHT be limited to campus visits for a short duration, but unlikely anything more. There is more to this story.

It was a Bruce Pearl redo. Joker was photographed sitting at a table in a restaurant with a recruit and his dad during a dead period. That's a big no no.

Pearle's lie was the worst part of his infraction.

Re: Joker resigned yesterday

I'm not buying the recruiting violation hell he never did anything wrong at UK and he was here for several years.  I'm not surprised to see Joker resigning from Florida so quickly either.
