Fate of the Big East
Some UL fans have been bemoaning a trip to Boise next year and the league that scheduled the trip, but whether that league will exist next year hangs in the balance. So, would UL's football team be better off playing a BE schedule next year or going right the ACC and filling Maryland's schedule?

Re: Fate of the Big East
Bad from my perspective as a UofL fan I'd much rather go next season as to wait until 2014. And there are discussions to that effect. Mike Brey, the ND basketball coach, says that he believes that ND and Louisville will head to the ACC for 2013 regardless of UMD's situation and that would give the ACC 16 b'ball schools and 15 football schools for 2013. I certainly hope this is what happens. I would prefer the ACC and UMD to come to some "conclusion" about UMD's situation. It is a foregone conclusion that UMD cannot pay the "50m" fee simply because the athletic department is dead broke, bankrupt, kapute. I'm guessing that an arrangement will be made between UMD and the ACC for some amount less than $50 million and that would be paid over a number of years from UMD's new found wealth in the Big10????. However, I don't think the Big??? will be real pleased with that deal, but what can they do. I guess it'll just be tough noogies. In any case I just hope we are in the ACC for next season instead of 2014. I guess we'll know something fairly soon. If you are looking for a "bad guy" in this whole scenario you can flat out blame the original "five Providence mafia basketball schools" since they hindered everything the BE attempted to do to strengthen the football side of the BE. And, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they felt so reluctant to have the football schools be successful. Now they are looking at the possibility of splitting up and some of them heading to the Atlantic 10 or the CUSA or wherever. Oh well, we'll know soon enough.

You look for the bad guy. I could not care less about who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. That is subjective banter for fans who care. I do not.
But, I know many UL fans who do not want the dream season ruined by the better teams in the ACC. I understand their position.

" . . . but, I know many UL fans who do not want the dream season ruined by the better teams in the ACC . . " With all due respect Bad, but that is BS. I'll bet I know a bunch more UofL fans than you do and I have not heard a single one of them say "boy, I hope we don't go to the ACC until 2014 so we'll get the easy BE schedule in 2013 . . ." Bad you generally think before you speak, but you missed the boat on this one. If we are playing an ACC schedule in 2013 we'll be in a much better position to improve our football image than otherwise.

No. It is not BS and you know it, if you are a UL fan. And, why in the world would you think you know more UL fans? That is ridiculous, Gocs, and you know it. ROFL!

Bad is right on the money with his assessment. Lvile fans might not admit that the #1 reason for both bcs bowls and this years 10-2 record is the cupcake big east schedule, but it is a fact. And most card fans are all pointing to next year when some say an undefeated record is in reach. This "dream season" will no longer be possible without the luxury of playing the SEC junior varsity(big east) whether cards fans choose to admit it or not. Enjoy it while it lasts. It will all be over very soon.

RE: Fate of the Big East
First, I have never, and would never, say that our schedule this year was anything but easy. Second, Bad I have many friends that are UK fans, but for me to say that I have more UK friends than you do, you being a lifelong UK fan, would be absolutely ridiculous. Just as your comment about you having as many or more UofL fans than I do. That's still BS. The reason that we are in a BCS bowl is that we are playing by the rules that were set up, period. Too bad that UK fans don't realize the difference between being a victim or a volunteer. Since that may be a little over your "level", I'll explain: UK fans are volunteers to get the living crap kicked out of them game after game in the SEC. Why? Because the money is worth it. It's that simple. If you want to be an SEC team then you'll have to develop your program beyond anything it's been since Bear was there. And, by the way, I remember the Bear being at UK and, of course, all of the coaches that have been there. The dismissal of Blanton Collier was a horrible mistake.

First they complain that no one will play them and now they complain that games at Boise and Cincinnati constitute some kind of killer schedule.

You are silly. I grew up in Louisville. I have family members who played for UL. Most of my friends are UL fans. You are clueless.
Let me add that I have a degree from UL.

I will admit that I completely agree about us this year and the big east being awful but the year we won the orange bowl 3 BE teams were ranked in the top 10 and those games were hard ones too and plus for the record I would much rather play in the ACC even if it meant we wouldnt get an AQ

RE: Fate of the Big East
Bad sometimes the truth hurts. And who cares if you have a degree from UofL or if you had family that played for UofL. Hell, I went to both schools and have a degree from UofL. In my business life I did some incredible construction work for UK and very, very little for UofL. In fact, there are still people at UK that I have great relationships with that are still my friends. None of this means crap in the big picture. So you can talk about all of your UofL connections you want, but this pissing contest is over as far as I'm concerned. Now as to the football game next year. It should be a good and interesting game, but there is a reason that a team goes into their rival's stadium and is a favorite. And I assure you that UofL will be a healthy favorite next season at CWS regardless of whether we are playing as a member of the BE or the ACC. And the major question that I've heard about going to Boise State from UofL fans is " . . . will there be enough snow for the ski slopes . . . ". You UK fans have got to get over this obsession with UofL and our schedule and apparently you are spending more time on the UofL boards than you are willing to admit.

RE: Fate of the Big East
You must realize how ridiculous this reads. First, you post obssessively on a UK board. Second, I never claimed UL would not enter Commonwealth the favorite. Will not be the first time. Third, you and I both know your claim about Boise is irrelevant and false. Many UL fans on the UL board are complaining about a conspiracy in the BE. But, again, irrelevant. As to friends of mine, I understand their desire to kick arse in the BE and get back to a BCS, realizing that is far less likely in the ACC. Get to that bowl and you at least have a chance to win. Chances of getting there in any other conference, even the ACC, are not nearly as good.

If I'm a UL fan (and I'm the farthest thing from it) I'd want to go ahead to the ACC. You can only prove so much by beating up on little sisters of the poor, so you might as well step up and make a trip to Clemson for a night game. As much as it makes Louisville fans feel good to crow about making a BCS game, the rest of the country sees it for what it is...a political accomodation to keep the DoJ out of football. The ACC is still the weakest of the leftover football conferences, but a step up from the Big Priest.

-------------------------------------------- I don't understand what the fuss is all about. I prefer to post here rather than the UL board, for several reasons. This board appears to have less traffic and more opportunity for real conversations. The UL board is full of twits. What conspiracy in the BE are you referring to? Regarding UL fans wanting to defer going to the ACC for another year, note that every UL fan that has posted on this thread wants to move asap. Admittedly a small sample size.

RE: Fate of the Big East
MCG, some UL fans have suggested that the trip out west to Boise next year was payback for UL leaving the league.
And, I note that there are 2-3 UL fans that post regularly on this board. They represent a segment of the UL fan population on issues, but are not representative of the whole fan base. Admittedly, a ridiculously small sample size, and, to some degree, a defensive lot.
In fact, I remember hearing fans call Drew Deener's show expressing their delight that UL would get one more season against BE competition and other UL radio personalities describing it as the best of both worlds. Please, let's not pretend that a substantial portion of your fan base feels this way. And, many do so unabashed, which I do not condemn or criticize.
I KNOW that UL made the BCS this year in accordance to the rules. There has never been an argument to the contrary, Gocs.

Those schools will never be significant in college athletics if they can't put a team in the Football field. As for the BCS bowl, it would be a trade off. I'm sure there are some fans on both sides of the fence. If Ky was wearing that shoe, I might side with those that wanted a shot at a BCS game. 30 years from now, people will see a BCS banner hanging in the stadium. No one will care who they played or how they got there. Getting there is the goal. As a Ky fan, I might give a selected appendage just to play in such a game. I feel for Cincy and the other Football schools and hope they end up in a real conference where Football is the priority as it should be.

Ok, thanks. The UL fans in the circle I run in are pretty much all wanting to move to the ACC today, but I understand where you are coming from.
One more very small question:
"...a defensive lot...."
Me? I'm being too defensive? I've always tried to be respectful and think smack-talking is immature, but I can change if that would be more appreciated.

Both fan bases have those who are defensive and arrogant. It's sports. Being a loyal fan of one team does not require one to regard another team with contempt. Recognizing UL has the leg up right now by a Ky Football fan is not an indictment on his "fanhood". Nor will it be when a UL fan recognizes the tide has turned.... as will be the case in a couple of years .
I like friendly banter. It keeps your mind sharp.
