Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
Ive thought about potential hires for fball and this year is bad timing to find a coach since there are a lot of big programs that will be looking. Dykes has did a great job at LT and will bring the type offense that is needed to put the fans back in the stands. I think he would come here in a heartbeat as well. He only makes around 750gs right now so we could possibly have a good shot at a solid DC since we should have $ to spend.
My top 4 " realistic Hires" 1. Dykes 2. Leach 3. Smart 4. Butch Jones
I would be happy with any of the 4. With dykes and leach being from the same tree i think they would need to be paired with a solid DC.
Im scared that names like tuberville, cutcliffe, and fulmer will keep showing up. What say you? Who can we get to turn this ship around?

I would prefer Petrino go elsewhere. I hope the Belotti rumor has legs.

I Would take belotti over all candidates i have seen mentioned before. I just didnt think it was a possibility but i sure hope it is as well. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised by who might be interested in coaching the cats.

Belotti reportedly expressed interest in the CU job a couple of years back when Hawkins was fired, but pulled his name, supposedly to see his kid through school before returning to coaching. Seems this may be a good time with the right AD?

Why not Charlie Strong? After all, Louisville hired a former UK basketball coach, time for a little payback and hire away their successful football coach.

I am sure Mitch is going to decide based on this thread so I am going to think about it a little longer before posting my pick.

I really don't think Leach looks our way, he will try to make it work at Washington State, he is competitive so he will want to show his past employer that he made a mistake firing him. The other three could very well end up at UK if Mitch knows how to make the pitch.

Re: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
Why is Sonny Dykes being mentioned so much? Was he all that great at UofA, and I get the La. Tech offense has been very good, but that is an offense being run by Tony Franklin...who would probably be hired as HC at La. Tech if Dykes goes somewhere else. Dykes' defense hasn't been playing very well, either, so that should be a concern for whatever team hires him. Who does Sonny have contacts with that would be an upgrade at DC? Mike Smith, from the Jets? He's never been a DC at any level.

Re: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
If the Mike Belotti stuff is legit, he would be a good hire I think. You had pretty good luck with his former boss at Oregon. A proven coach is probably better than taking a risk on an up and coming coordinator or younger coach. If you can get a guy like Belotti and let him develop a great staff, maybe he can pass the baton in a few years the way he did to Kelly at Oregon.
They said Bear Bryant walked on water...Nick Saban swims through land.

Re: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
Cutcliffe is about as exciting as a hot cup of camomile and one of grandma's wafers. MB will swing for the fences and come up just short... of the outfield. He will then resort to his old ways and what he knows best, his connections. Look for him to make a pilgrimage to Oregon, but forget about the ducks. Corvallis is the destination, can the beaver come out and play? Remember the name Danny Langsdorf as it may prove vital. Who?!?! DANNY LANGSDORF. Look him up. His name is not on your radar screens but I, for one, would not be disappointed.

Bill Obrein isn't leaving Penn State. You realize he has a contract through 2020. GPGAM wrote: 1. KIRBY SMART=enough said!!!!!! 2. Bib O Brien PSU 3. Gus Maltzhan 4. Yeah, that is my concern. Plus, you know Saban is intimately involved at Bama. If Saban would come with him ...

RE: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
see Frank Solich mentioned. this would be an excellent pick. did a very good job at Nebraska (look what theta did after his exit)' and has done an amazing job at Ohio. I think this guy would bring Kentucky back to respectability. good luck with your coaching search.

Frank Solich is 68 years old for crying out loud. Why not just say Bobby Bowden?

How old is coach Snyder? Why is age such an issue? (I am sure Mitch wants to know)

RE: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
I have posted before: Go hard after Kirby Smart and just maye he would bring his buddy Chris Hatcher to run the offense. Kirby has been well schooled by coaches Mark Ritch, Bobby Bowden, and Lou Saban. Last five years has run the defense for Lou Saban at Bama. Kirby has the resume and is ready to become a head coach! He is a Georgia native and played for The Dawgs and just as important knows the SEC! I think he will be on the short list for other SEC schools and if Mitch is ready as he says to make major upgrades for UK football then make all out effort, hire Kirby Smart!

RE: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
I have heard that Saban is advising against any interest in Kentucky. Not that he's trying to keep Smart, but thinks Smart can do better. I tend to agree....someone will get that guy before UK can. Even if he's available, I think he's not interested.
I really don't think Patterson would come, either.
But you HAVE to make them say no before you move on.

Smart can't do better then UK. It's not like Saban's coordinators are getting great HC gigs after they leave.

Re: Realistic possibilities for Football Coach
Here's an Idea. Get Daffy Duck off that ESPN stool, give him a headset and a blue sweater, and let's get started.
Now I know why people hate UK.
