Its really not a NCAA thing.  The acc programs have a different set of rules when it comes to the ncaa.  $100k,  I bet that is chicken feed in the acc.

I bet the NCAA doesn't dig in to find out where that 30 grand came from..... hey I know, they can invite the Duke compliance officer to attend the trip!!!!

Listen, I do not care if you can cough up 25% of the total purchase price...no NORMAL student WITHOUT A JOB is going to be given a 67K dollar loan for custom jewelry.

I have high 700 credit...but If I wanted to buy a house, which is an easier loan to get than jewelry, and I walked into a bank with 50 grand wanting to buy a 150K house...and I listed my income as 0, do you think I would get a home loan?

Nope.
So, then how does a student with no income get a 67K loan to buy jewelry with no income? And if he wasn't an athlete who was pretty much a sure in to get drafted into the NBA, would he have gotten that loan? Its ABSOLUTELY treatment that a normal human being wouldn't have got... which is 100% against NCAA rules, it makes him ineligible, it makes him a professional athlete, Duke had a pro player on their championship team and that season should be wiped from the books.

Yeah I know, I was agreeing with you. Doesn't look good for Duke at all.

I'll say this again for those of you who were not paying attention when I said it about North Carolina -  The NCAA will do NOTHING about this. It's Duke. And Duke has an advantage even UNC didn't have  - History. The NCAA had court transcripts to prove that Maggette took money from an agent while at Duke and they did...? That's right - NOTHING. They will do the same thing here.

I'm with you MyTeam8Rings. If the NCAA will not do anything to North Carolina and Duke for this latest round of monkey business, they will lose credibility (if they had any to begin with) with the rest of the nation. And they should..........Southforkwally

Really good article; IMO, what should happen to dUKe and what will happen to them are completely different

The NCAA has an announcement already for the media,  "dook has NOT broken any ncaa rules," it was written months ago.

the NCAA changed the rule for texting and phone calls after K got caught contacting Poythress during a "no contact" period.

I'm sure they will find a way to make this rule fit whatever dUKe wants.

8 Championships with 5 different coaches. Do the math.

They have to strip them of the 2010 banner right? You can't give a kid 67 thousand dollars of jewelry and it be ok , right?

Move on people there is nothing to see here, why do yall get all worked up over these small things. We should be more worried about how Nerlens paid for a $250 flight. Shew anybody can get $30,000 for a $100,000 jewelery loan without a job, but try to get $250 for a flight, yeah i didnt think you could. Just something fishy about coming up with a couple hundreds dollars.

Why is your dookbutt over here?  I would say that dook being known now as a cheat and a loser like unc,  probably hurts but hey the truth always hurts.  Oh yeah,  do any of the rest of the players go to the Castle?  I hear they have better prices, lol.

Kinda funny that the NCAA was getting on South Carolina for $20 in benefits to some of their kids a few years ago (I think a gamecocks booster gave a couple players some chips and a soda-not even joking) and then this pops up.

It also is a permanent fixture on ESPN's "scroll" a the botoom of the screen.  It's first up when the topic turns to Men's NCAA BB.

Re: Lance Thomas bought $100k jewelry during Duke's 2010 NT

If there was nothing wrong about where Thomas got the money and the credit wouldn't one assume that Thomas would come out and tell where the money came from.
The lack of any statement and the amount of money involved cries out wrong doing by perhaps a Duke booster or official(s).

Of course nothing will come of it, it is Duke, I guess the NCAA lost the phone numbers of the former FBI agents they have consistently hired to investigate UK every time some sports writer mentions the word Kentucky.

Again, the NCAA is a laughing stock

They do not need people to cooperate, a lawsuit was filed, and has now been settled, so now that the suit is settled it is a matter of public record (or will be within around 30 days once all of the appropriate paper work is done and filed, open cases generally are not made public and only the plaintiff or defendant can get access to the file, but now that it is settled, it should show up herehttp://www.txcourts.gov/searchable.asp within 30 days NOTE: its Travis County where the suit was filed) . When that suit was filed I am sure there were certain documents filed along with the county paper work , receipts, probably a credit app. ETC, and all of those documents are public record, the NCAA can get them if they want them.... question is, does the NCAA really want them.

If you search the Texas Gov site, all you will probably find online are actual documents submitted by the court, in order to view the entire case file, you would probably have to physically walk into the Travis County clerk's office and request to see the file, but what you can get from the site is the case number, so when you walk into the clerks office you can request the case by number...and again, the NCAA should be able to do this within 30 days.
