UofL fan here with a serious question.
First and for most let me tell you about me. I am 31 years old and have been a die hard UofL fan for 31 years. I love not only UofL basketball and football but I also love the other sports, womans basketball, baseball, soccer, vollyball, and etc... I think Tom Jurich is one of the best ADs in the country so I think we will be great with him at the front line. With all that said I can honestly say that i'm not a UK hater. There are certian things that i dislike a lot, and i will name them for you. 1. I dislike the over the top fans! Just like you guys that hate our over the top fans ( and I know we have them). I just dont like the over the top disrepect plain and simple. And like I said I know we have those fans as well. 2. I dislike how John C does things. I'll be the first to say that I think at some point Cal was cheating. Things to me just seem a little to obivious. With that said I dont "think" Cal has to cheat anymore to get the players that he wants. With the product that he has put on the floor the past few years and the fact that he is the first coach to really explode with the social media thing he has put together an idea place for players who want the one and done experience with him. Everyone is going to have to except the fact that this will be the case as long he is coaching. 3. So I guess its mainly the fans that I think we can both agree on as main problem. Not all fans just the ignorant fans that we both have. Now with all that said my question is, Is it possible to have a "more" (even a little) friendly rivalry or is the hate part just a part of it and we just have to live with it? In closing just want to say I can't for our game. It should be a good one. I dont think you guys have the talent like you have the past few years but I still think you have a good team thats only going to get better as the season goes. I really really like Poythress. Straight monster. One of my favorite players in college. Noel is what he is. A great shot blocker who is a little better off then people though. His biggest problem is to many people want to compare his to Anthony Davis as well thats just not fair. Only real weekest I see was pg but if Cal can get Goodwin to learn and play the postion then that could be great for UK. I dont think Harrow is the answer. Im still not sould on Kyle. I think hes going to have several really good games but I think if teams can shut him down from outside i dont see a lot more that he can do. With all that said I think with Poythress, Noel, and Goodwin I think you all have enough talent to do some good things. Cant wait for the game. Go Gards!

RE: UofL fan here with a serious question.
TungBird, let me have a shot at your question. I was born and raised in Louisville. My brother is a die-hard UL fan as I am a UK fan. We can watch the UL/UK game and do some serious trash talking with each other. In the end we are still brothers and love each other. The winner gets to gloat for a year and the loser gets to have a “Wait ‘till next year” attitude. It’s all in fun and has been going on since…birth.
Some people can’t cope with reality. They go crazy; their blood pressure could put them in a hospital and even refuse to talk to each other for years because of the UL/UK game. These people have a bigger problem than a basketball game. Unfortunately, these people will not go away. We have to learn to shut them out and converse with the other 90% of the population.

First of all you will never get UK fans to be civil when you say you dislike CAL because he has cheated sometime in the past. Second you are never going to stop some of your fans from being real dicks at our games, and our fans either. So the hate will exist because of these two problems and I think they will continue to be problems into the future.

I found it a little funny myself that a lville fan that said cal cheats wonders why things just cant be more friendly. Poor way to approach the situation.

And the fact their coach is so disrespectful to UK and UK fans on a whole when UK gave him his greatest achievement.
And he went to UK biggest rival and thought it would be ok.

Re: UofL fan here with a serious question.
This will never be a "friendly" rivalry. But I don't think it matches the hatred of say the Alabama-Auburn football or UNC-Duke basketball rivalry. It is what it is. There will be haters on both sides and extreme dicks. I live near and work in Louisville. I've never once had a heated argument with a UL fan and don't ever expect to. There is good friendly ribbing at work but in the end we are all friends and co-workers. There is definitely more to life than the UL-UK rivalry.

I've always felt this way and have assumed that it is a result of the fact that UofL can't ever sustain their success. They go from world beaters to first round losers faster than Billy Clyde driving to happy hour.

Re: UofL fan here with a serious question.
Tungbird, I agree with your assessment except for item #2. You can be assured that for the last 10 years or so there have been many interests out there, including two Louisville notables - Bosich and Forde, who have tried to connect Cal to just "one" of the NCAA infractions of which he has been accused . Needless to say, they have been fruitless and that really confounds his detractors. The same year Cal was hired a SI reporter named S.L. Price decided to do what none of the others had ever done before reporting heresay and rumors--he did some research and actually spent some time with Cal to get his side of the story. The result was a 9 page article http://sportsillustrated.cnn.c...82972/index.htm that goes a long way to tell the real story, If for some reason this link doesn't bring the article up, you can just google "Calipari SI Vault article". From the UK standpoint it is the best article I have ever seen from someone who doesn't appear to have an axe to grind. Just for the record, he was born in CT; attended UNC so I don't see anything there. My recommendations to you TB if you really want to have a more friendly rivalry, take the time to read this article and report back. BTW I'm not a Louisville hater, I used to go to both BB and FB games back in the 60's and early 70's when you could spend $10 at a local Convenient Food Mart and get a free ticket to one of the games. Re: UofL fan here with a serious question.
To answer the original poster's question, you know I try to be civil to UL fans..but I have bad experiences that ruin it.... like, I will just be driving around minding my own business and hear someone honking and when I look they flip me off, I notice they have a UL plate on the front of their car... sometimes I will have my wife and 18 month old child with me out for a Sunday drive... just out of no where we get flipped off or someone screams an obscenity at us...if you are screaming obscenities at people on a Sunday you just need to find Jesus or something...just saying. I come out of Kroger to find spit on my truck.... I just do not understand why they have all that hostility against me <Shrug>

And some of them are Louisville fans who got tired of not making it past the second round of the NCAA tourney with their hall of fame coach 67% of the time so they came over to jump on the bandwagon of a SUCCESSFUL team....like uhm...YOU. Now check your purse for a tissue, you are making puddles.

That's why I'm NOT complaining about it. You, on the other hand, keep crying about UL. You're obviously afraid of something.

Fever you seem to be in to it with someone on every thread you post on. Maybe you would find less resistance on the lville board since you are an admitted cardinal fan. Just a thought.
