Harrow
Anybody else worried about Harrow? I know he had the flu and all but he does not seem to be as focused as our previous point guards under Calipari. I could see him getting passed over for Mays, Goodwin and now Polson as a result, anybody else?

Actually, this may help him. Now he sees Cal wasn't joking...he has to fight for the spot. I think Harrow will be very good.
Now I know why people hate UK.

Good take on it. I hope you are right and I am over reacting, I just have been a little nervous about his play.

RE: Harrow
I hope Harrow turns things around. He's got tons of potential but can't seem to put it together in a game. If he wants to see the court under Calipari he's gonna have to grow up and be tough. Otherwise y'all will just recruit right over him next year and he's likely to never see starters minutes.

RE: Harrow
Evan Daniels warned us that, while Harrow has some potential, the upside at the PG position this year is nowhere near any of Cal's other guys at the position. It's going to be a process. I think he'll eventually be solid, but lots of work to be done.

RE: Harrow
Its our weakest position for sure. I posted a topic about my concern with harrow a couple weeks back. I think archie has to get better at point just like harrow. Archie can create for himself but hasnt shown he can pass at all so far, that has to change. They will get better and now it looks like polson can give us decent minutes from time to time so we should be ok with time at pG. But we have nowhere near the talent we have been blessed/spoiled with in the past.

I agree with you Catfever, other guards have had trouble early in their careers with Cal, like Teague, and all have come to the forefront by season's end. I expect Harrow to do the same.

Re: Harrow
I have a question. If your cal do you start polson vs. duke? What would you do? Honestly, he probably earned it. Im not suggesting he is better than harrow but maybe starting gives him that much more condidence and could light a fire under harrow. Maybe it could be good for both players. Just a thought.

Cal isn't really like that. I mean, when Miller would play great he would still start MKG. And until Michael told Cal that Miller should start, he didn't. Polson had a great game, I think he will not hurt us when he comes in but CAL knows that Harrow has to improve for this team to be able to go back to the final four so he will start Harrow against Dook, I believe.

Re: Harrow
Your right in saying it isnt his style. He will do the right thing which is probably to start harrow. He did have the flu afterall(or flu-like symptoms).
I wasnt suggesting that he should start going forward through the season just for Duke. It would be cool to see him rewarded for his effort though. Nice to know that he can give us solid minutes when we need them and he provides leadership and experience that this team is desperate for. Mays will also be crucial in taking on a leadership role on this team.

RE: Harrow
Please keep in mind this is November. Every team Coach Cal has had here went though this process. Didn't Davis get into foul trouble early last year. If this team does not get any better then all these comments are valid. Does anyone on here think this will be the case?

RE: Harrow
I would be shocked if anyone thought this team wont get better. Imo this team will improve more throughout the season than any of cals teams previously. We might take some lumps early and duke will be really tough for us to beat right now. The talent is there, no question about that. In feb and march we will hit our stride just in time for the big dance.

You'd think at some point that kid would get a flu shot. he seemed to battle flu like symptoms more than once while at state.

Re: Harrow
We don't call him Ryan "Bubble Guts" Harrow for nothing. This is what he'll look like when a walk-on is taking his minutes. At least if he picked up 2 fouls in 10 minutes, he's playing more than the "Matador Defense" he played at State. Kudos to your walk-on. He played a heckuva game.

Re: Harrow
I think he will get better but also don't just push aside what some state fans are saying about him because he looked just like this when he was at state two years ago. His talent has never been the question it's his toughness that's always been in question and that's something that takes awhile to get if you ever get it. Not a good sign that he played like this against Maryland who has a PG who isn't really a PG who was never athletic to begin with and coming back from ACL surgery. I suspect Polson will get more time once agin because Dukes PGs are better and are real PGs compared to Maryland's

Kudos to your walk-on. He played a heckuva game. Careful what you say, we could remind you of how bad ncstate has been now for awhile. Just because you are 6th early this year, doesn't mean you will stay there so be nice to Harrow okay?

I mean I know you guys play UNC and Duke.... but those aren't really big games unless like, you are playing for the conference lead or something.... I am asking, why would Harrow have a need to feel sick playing against teams that are supposed to beat you...its not like there is a whole lot of pressure in that scenario.

@ESPNAndyKatz: Kentucky says PG Ryan Harrow dealing with fatigue and may not make the trip to Atlanta to play Duke.
Maybe it's just games against ACC opponents. he'll be fine once conference play rolls around.

But, the pic of him in the photochop is of him at the press conference announcing Mark Gottfried as head coach. Nice demeanor, punk. I don't think he's off his mama's tit yet. Again, kudos to your walk-on. Beat Dook!!!

A big game at NCST is one where their playing for the pride of their cows that some wayward UNC fan has sodomized. Then they lose that game and say "#@@%$#ing REFS!!!!!!". What a joke of a program.

Re: Harrow
This one game does not concern me. But I do feel that Harrow may struggle to adapt to the demands of the position under Calipari because he is more a scoring lead guard than a point guard, so there will be adjustments.
Also, I think from looking at Polson, who is leaner, quicker, in better shape, that he may have been motivated feeling with Harrow he would have a shot at minutes.
With all this said, keep in mind, all point guards struggle early with Calipari and the demands of the position, and he is following some great past performers, it is a high measuring stick.
Overall I think Harrow will be fine, but not dominant. He will play both guard positions, and Polson will get to play a fair amount this season.

FunkBrothers wrote: A big game at NCST is one where their playing for the pride of their cows that some wayward UNC fan has sodomized. Then they lose that game and say "#@@%$#ing REFS!!!!!!". What a joke of a program. DUKE TROLLIN! He also said this UMD will never be top 10 in anything haha. What a joke of a program, somehow they luck into a title during the worst year in ncaa history, when all the top talent wasn't even close to considering going to school, and they somehow think they're relevant. And that was over 10 years ago! Since then its been NiT NiT NiT NCAA Choke NiT etc.
In the words of Mike Davis to some unc fans "GET YOU A TEAM!"
AND THIS:The PG matchup clearly favors the Cats. Marcus Page is a weak 4 star recruit and more comparable to past unc pg's Adam Boone, Jon Holmes, and Larry Drew than he is to a Felton, Lawson type. Harrison 1 will decimate him on both sides of the ball.
SG Harrison 2 should beast PJ Hairston, if he doesn't die of fright! Thats one ugly azz nikka!
SF: Wiggens>Everyone but LeBron/Durant/Kobe at the sport. And Reggie Bullock don't even play no D so thats lights out!
PF: Since Vonleh is probaly going to Cuse that leaves the Heels with Johnson(4* scrub) and Hicks. Hicks is aight but we seen how poorly top rated players achieve as frosh under Roy. Meanwhile they thrive in the dribble drive! And Randel is a man while Hicks is still a boy! Huge edge UK
DUKE TROLL SAYS:Should be a really good game! Hope the fans on both side can keep it civil and enjoy the match up of the top two programs in the sport!

RE: Harrow
Are we really going to do this every year?
I'm not going to talk about John Wall, he is just a freak.
After the UCONN game in Maui everyone was talking about how Brandon Knight was overrated and that he would be back for a 2nd year. He progressed into our best player and eventually lead us to the final four.
Teague looked terrible last year and I mean terrible up until around February many were saying Lamb was the better PG, we know how that turned out for us.
While many on here are saying Harrow shouldn't exhibit the same learning curve as the others because he has had a year under Calipari, the dude hadn't played in a real game in over a year.
Harrow is more athletic than Teague and Knight he is no bigger than 5'10 and puts his head on the rim with ease. He's not the shooter that Knight was and he is not as physical as Teague but the guy will be fine.
It was the FIRST game of the season, give the guy some time.
