Feels like 2001 all over again

Feels like 2001 all over again

This ECU team seems eerily similar to our overhyped, underperforming bunch from 2001.

In 2001, we lost a home Thursday night game vs. VT.  An embarrassing loss, worse than this year.  We also lost in Chapel Hill.

In 2001, we sat at 6-3 with Louisville coming to town on a Thursday night, followed by Southern Miss with our destiny decided at home.  I recall losing to Louisville, with a rare Leonard Henry fumble contributing - along with a terrible defense.  We proceeded to lose again to USM & meet Marshall in the GMAC bowl.  You know the rest.

Season ended at 6-6.  Lots of returning players, including a senior QB (worlds better than PP, but Garrard did turn the ball over.  Don't get me wrong, I'd kill for a Garrard type QB now that can get the ball downfield).

Are we headed for 6-6 again?  Hope not.

Very much agreed LP.   The USM demon needs to be brought to heel this year.   If we can play defense like we did against  VATech and add in some of what I like to call..................offense, we could prevail.   This is the time of year when injuries tend to change the personalities of many football teams.   Skip has shown that he can deal with injuries well.    We'll see this weekend.

RE: Feels like 2001 all over again

see our problem is no longer building a big lead and then watching it melt away (Marshall GMAC bowl, Boise St. bowl game, etc.) We simply can't score more than 21 points. If we can hold an opponent to below 21 pts we have a shot

this thread is dead-on though... i would keep thinking how in the world do we keep losing w/ Garrard and Henry?? Eerily similar yes. And we might finish below .500 if we go to a bowl game. Akron can beat us

I agree with your assessment Louisville Pirate.  The thing is just because a guy is a year older, it doesn't mean that he becomes more talented just a little more experienced which sometimes is overrated.

It is just hard to win games, everybody else out there is trying to win too.

Just keep this in mind - if the Pirates finish with a winning record this year it will be the first time EVER that the Pirates have completed 4 winning seasons in a row.  I will take that and lets go for 5 next year !

Also remember that we are in C-USA and not in a BCS conference and we scheduled 3 BCS opponents for this year.  We could have taken the Boise State route and scheduled North Texas and Western Kentucky etc. but we shoot for bigger goals than that here at ECU.

I just look forward to that magical day that this announcement is made:  ECU joins the Big East Conference and becomes a member of the BCS.

The moment that announcement is made will be like waking up from a bad dream and finding out that you are going to be okay.

Then lets begin a new day.  In the meantime, we will fight the good fight, schedule BCS teams and we are having winning seasons as we go.

So go become a USC fan. They have room on the bandwagon.

If you have nothing constructive to add. Not even coaching change advice. Why do you waste your time here?

Here you go.

Louisville, I feel your pain, the the previous Thursday night loss to VT was in 2000, not 2001.

Everyone on this board is entitled to their own opinion be it blind optimism or a glass half empty POV. If you don't like something i write or whatever simply choose "ignore this member" underneath my name. That's right. drop me like 8am French class!

I like most everyone here would like to see the Pirates succeed and do well but the way we fall flat on our faces time after time leaves me w/ a sobering hunger for something that ECU might not be able to deliver. My problem is i expect the Pirates to improve and they don't. Can i change that? No. Can i ***** about it? YES! Forums are good for that.

Coaching change? How bout a FIRE SKIP HOLTZ thread? tongue All jokes aside i'm not the person that could offer insight on personnel changes. Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier are just a phone call away

No, that name is not to be uttered.

My real life is better than VD007's dreams.
