Re: Ah Some Nice Hilltopper Dreams to watch

Seen a new rush of negativity from some of y'all in the last few weeks, not sure if you guys know something about the team I don't?

All indications are it's been a great offseason. Nice schedule (outside of the NAIA games,) some veterans finally healthy, Big Ben got overseas experience, new freshmen look good.

Some of y'all posting like the team's gone downhill the last few weeks. I don't get it.

Jordan,

I think it's a result of "certain people" trying to drum up the D2 Ray Club membership.
Nothing of consequence in the negativity to real Topper fans.  We should have an exciting
year and I am looking forward to it.

We should be good this season, no doubt.....Seems to me some posters are downgrading us so the bar is low and its not as bad if we do not met expectations....I thought this next season "is the year"....If its not when will "the year" be?  Will be a while before we have so many guys  again with this much experience playing D1 basketball....I fully expect this team to win at least 24 games even with little production from Lawson and Rostov, if not I for one will be disappointed....I am concerned when we playing power conf. teams we will be over matched down low as well as a couple of CUSA teams, but hopefully our resume is good enough in the end...

quick count of 6-3 ON THE ROAD in a conference loaded with beasts down low???

really?

win at ole miss ON THE ROAD when we couldn't beat them in diddle and we added no bigs to matchup with their sec level bigs.

i hope you're not putting money on those easy peasy road wins at usm and middle.

no wonder zeke wants to quit posting breakdowns.  if he's said anything in his breakdowns he covers how hard life is on the road.  not his opinion.....by his numbers.

but we're gonna win 70% of the road games i just mentioned with a d2 roster and no bigs?

I love you guys. It's gonna be a fun year.

But seriously. Am I the only one who thinks we beat UofL at home?

I never said we have a D2 roster....My only concern when playing top 75 teams, matching up down low. with 2 unproven "bigs"...Ole Miss could go either way but they did lose Marshall which actually might be a good thing, so yea your right, 24th win in CUSA semis and loss to Ole Miss, you swayed me on that one....

Trust me I know life on the road is tough, that's why I think most of or losses will be on the road....USM should be beatable and I think MTSU is not going to have a good team this season, they lost way too many players from the past 2 seasons, this is season it finally catches up to them....

HOw many wins you guys think we get, 15?  Is that our goal?   Does everyone agree we need  to be than last season or no?  I know record wise may not line up but eyeball test, I hope we are better than last season....If not than when?

Please give examples of this "negativity rush".  I certainly don't know why you posted this on my thread sharing some good old topper contests during the summer months of boring nothing.  Who is being negative? I'm excited to see how we play and I think we should be a good team. banghead

Re: Ah Some Nice Hilltopper Dreams to watch

It's so hard to tell..... we have not done a good job of protecting the home court in a number of years....

Life is very rough on the road..... If we are improved.... 20-12 this season against this schedule would not be bad

*** can all argue until we are blue in the face..... but we won't know until the season if we are ready for this completion or not..... some say we have the talent others say we don't..... I know its hard to believe but I am in the middle..... just not real sure ..... I always hope for the best..... on paper I cant see why we wont be better.

24-8  may not even get you into the NIT..... we are playing with the big boys now......

wont know till the season ... 24-8 could be 100 rpi or a 40 rpi.... just depends on too many factors.....

woodie yes we did beat UL IN 08.... TENS DAYS after a 40 pt drubbing at murray county and then 10 days later another 40 pt lost at Evansville...... but history will show UL a top 5 team..... we usually get drubbed....and its one game ..... 08 was the strangest start to a seson that I ever witnessed that finished so well.... with an ncaa win and almost another sweet 16.

Despite height changes, conference changes, personnel changes, and personal internet opinions or debate....

This team has to improve in 3 areas....

1.  Gotta get some offensive production in the paint from somebody other than GF...  that just didnt happen with any consistency last yr.

2.  Improve perimeter defense...

3.  Gotta improve FT shooting, especially at critical times.  Can't let opposing teams shoot a full 5% better percentage at the FT line for the season.

I know Gary. I was in attendance for all 3 of those games. Murray, UofL, and Evansville. I was meaning does anyone think we will beat them this year. I think we catch them at the perfect time for them to come to Diddle. They'll have a ton of unknowns on this team. Should be a good chance for us to get the marquee win under Harper that so many people are looking for.

Ah, there's an idea......"A Marquee Win"........yes we all would love this it hasn't happened in a while.  Not even in Stepphon's, Sergio's, or AJ's senior campaigns they got smoked by Vandy (30) and Louisville at home when Smith and Siva lit us up.  I can't recall if we've had a top notch win in the past five seasons.  Came close to KU, and close to S. Carolina and Ole Miss at home the latter not really being marquee teams either though.  Going back to the Div II teams on our non-conference, I would rather see a tough schedule with some hard fought losses against a Xavier/or Cincy type of matchup than two high school teams.  I also think that the more tough teams we play we will win a few and it will give us better recruiting.  Scheduling a tough team like Dayton that is regional would draw both fan bases and has a team much like ours would be a good challenge.
We talk about selling seats but we are reaching down the bar rather than up on our scheduling.  I think its an issue, do we schedule weak to maintain a near twenty win season and maybe a ncaa appearance.  Or do we fill the seats with a quality schedule of tough opponents that people want to see win or lose.  I would love to get with Xavier, Cincy, Dayton, Vandy, Purdue instead of games now with the Belmont's and Chicago State's etc.  The more good quality schools we play the better recruits we will get and more national exposure and more fans in the seats.  People are tired of watching UALR/Lamar/Texas State.  They now only come to see the big games, so schedule MORE of them Not LESS and don't be afraid to lose.

Those teams won't give us a home and home. The best they would do would be a 3 and 1, if that.

It's not like we are a top 50 program anymore Snitch, even at 1 home 2or3 away we need the better games not games that do zero for our program.

Is single digit losses too tough to ask for?  Or are we now accepting it as the norm

We definitely are not a top 50 program and I doubt we ever will be again. However no coach in is right mind is going to agree to a 3 to one. It's all about wins and losses and agreeing to the 3 to one ratio guarantees more losses than wins.

agreed trekster. but add interior D also. IF we somehow improve perimeter Defense, we are undersized and will get beat down low at this level.
