That "however" sums up a lot of discussions on this board.
Some folks just can't believe it when good things come our way.

Been around a long time...... Just waiting for his name on the bottom line...... Last fall was a good start ......

I know nothing other than what JW reports...... Why critise me for being a little concerned

Haha oh, gotcha! I was only seeking clarification.

Anyway, I'm telling you guys....I'm not sure how bball recruiting used to work.

But I know how it works now, and when a kid is committed, the competition drops off. I'm not sure if it's just not worth spending the resources, or what the reason is. But when a kid commits, even just a verbal, competition moves on.

It doesn't work that way in football, baseball, and other sports. For whatever reason, that's how it is in basketball.

The only reason a decommitment would happen would be something on WKU's end (not gonna happen in this case,) or if the kid's coach pushed him to reconsider, etc.

But WKU is in good with the coach here. I would be shocked--shocked--to see him decommit.

Sounds. Good JW. Football recuriting has no bounds....

But based on what you wrote early this staff has done a good h
Job with the player and his coach. Developing relationships. And this is what is needed to take us where we all want to go

Thanks for all your coverage JW

No problem friend biggrin. Always nice to hear people appreciate the work.

Yes, football is insane. A kid can commit somewhere and get new offers the very next day. And they'll rush to Twitter--"(Blank) school just offered me!"--it's incredible.

But basketball just doesn't work that way now. I've never asked why, but it just doesn't. Kids decommit in football all the time because they have college coaches bugging them all the way up to NSD about flipping. I even know of a handful of football recruits that WKU hasn't offered that they like, already committed elsewhere, but they're waiting because they know they can offer them in January and flip them if they need to.

In basketball that never happens. Very different.

Yes, the verbal commitment is sort of a gentleman's agreement, not really binding at all, but a man's word should mean something. Basketball coaches, for the most part, do respect it.

When Clem was our coach he had that great recruiting class with Tellis, Bryan, Kannard. He slept for three nights on Kannard's couch right before signing day because Denny Crum was parked down the street (Clem thought with a briefcase full of cash) waiting for Clem to leave. When Clem told me this story, I lost all respect for Coach Crum. You see, Kannard had verbally committed to WKU weeks earlier. That should have sealed the deal.

I kind of see it a little different..basketball is big business especially when you have millions of dollars on the line (not so much back then..). If this was a deal I was trying to make an the person picks my competitor till that contact is signed I'm going to try my best to change his mind.

As for players changing their minds it does happen after they commit...

Matt DcQuaid decommitted from  SMU but we don't have to go that from from home to see it has happened...

I didn't cover recruiting back then, but I've heard Cezar's verbal commitment announcement wasn't the strongest in the world.

Anyway, yes, there are always exceptions. Cam Justice decommitted from UT for Vandy, for example, but him and his family saw the coaching change coming. The rate of decommitments in basketball is ridiculously smaller compared to the other sports, and the cases of a kid just changing his mind are even less. The decommitments that do happen are usually because of a number of other factors, none that apply to McNeal's recruitment.

If you guys want to fret over it until November, that's fine. Or you can trust my reporting biggrin. Even though nothing is a sure thing in recruiting, so I do understand skepticism, but Toppers are in a good spot here.

I'm not fretting over it I'm not even worried about it I know there is a strong connection but for me personally...

till they sign that LOI it's not something I really care about. I realize that isn't the case for everyone and at some point in my live I was probably more like some of you. But then realized me worrying about a 17 year old changing his mind was useless..

probably changed when my oldest became a teenager :)

Cezar's  older brother worked against us in that instance.
