Home Attendance Predictions for 2009 - 2010

HOME GAMES ONLY

11/05 Bridgeport (exhibition) - 1400.  Game 7 of the World Series, Thursday is supposed to be a bit rainy as well. This game should take place on a weekend and they should make it part of an overall student body "olympics"

11/09 Stonehill (exhibition) - 980. A Monday night? Cant see much interest in this one.

11/13 CCSU - Why couldn't this be on a Saturday, 3300. Wasted Opportunity by the Powers that Be.

11/15 Fordham - Sunday Night Football may keep some student from attending *but* this should still be a sellout - 2491. Electric atmosphere but will pale in comparison to the HC game.

12/03 Marist - Thursday night; hmph. traffic keeps it light. 2450.

12/09 Holy Cross - boom! Finally the windows shatter for the matchup that was close to decades in the making - a return to Old School with HC at Alumni Hall. Packed to the gills, 95 degrees in the place and the Stags roll.

12/13 - SHU. Should be a good crowd DEPENDING on whether we're winning at this point during the season. I'll say we crack 4500.

12/29 - SFU - Crickets in Alumni Hall prove that AH is not AH with students. I'll say 1200

01/08 - Loyola -The Patsos Bowl - Friday night, students still on break. I'll go with 2000

01/10 - Manhattan - Sunday game; good start time (4pm). We crack 3500

01/16 - Siena - I am guessing Siena's rolling at this point in the season and it's a Saturday. I'll say if we're in the top 3 in the MAAC standings at this point, we get 6000 for this game. Should be a hoot.

01/18 - Canisius - Holiday and its Canisius, which never draws very well. 1900

01/30 - Rider - Another Saturday game, cool. If RT is having a monster year, I'd expect to see a decent crowd here. If both Rider and FF are in Top 5, look for 4000+.

02/05 - SPC - Friday night in the winter, snowstorms abound. 1600

02/26 - Iona - Iona always draws well. Again, a Friday night game. WTF?! Does Doris ever drive on I-95 on a Friday anytime between 2 and 8 pm!??!  2600

02/28 - Niagara - Sunday, MSG game, Senior Day - 4200 if FF and Niagara are in the Top 4.

Remove the two exhibition games and it works out to an average attendance of 3015(42,200/14 games). I think to high. 2100-2400 on average is more likely.

it's hard to argue with that but, if we're top 3 or top 4, we should draw fairly well. The Siena game really should draw well and so, IMO, will the Niagara and maybe the Rider game. Those should offset the Canisius and SPC games.

Right now, capacity for Stag games at AHY is 5,000 or so. It will be very interesting to see if FU decides to go with a full court setup for the Siena game, which is around 10,000 seats.  I think they should, especially if the Stags are doing well and/or if Siena is ranked.  Plus, Siena travels VERY well.  They could fill up a whole section or two for a Saturday game.  And of course I'll be crossing my fingers that at least 1,000 students show up - is that too much to ask? wink

The record crowd at AHY for a MAAC game so far is 5400 for Manhattan when O'Toole was here.  I think we can beat that for the Siena game.

RE: Home Attendance Predictions for 2009 - 2010

I've been wondering how season ticket sales have done this year compared to the last two seasons. Is there someone who can post the number of season tickets that have been sold for Fairfield basketball this year and the previous two years. I'm assuming there'd be a 15-20% dropoff this year simply due to the economic situation in the region.

As campion109 mentioned, attendance at a game can vary in large measure due to weather conditions and other sporting events occurring at the same time as the game. I'd love to see last year's early season success duplicated but without the midseason injuries and have all the pieces fall into place for the Stags this year.
