This guy parades around on television as a conservative but is really a liberal who represents the special interests in Washington rather than the good folks in South Carolina.

He always has been in favor of granting amnesty to illegal immigrants, which will destroy South Carolina and America.

The GOP needs to run a strong primary opponent against him in SC.

you're probably 6317 in disguise..if the gop opposes immigration reform with the zeal you profess, obama is only the first in a line of consecutive democratic presidencies..there will be immigration reform within the next year or two and it will provide a path to legal residency or citizenship for many illegals..no way the republican pols in washington turn their back (again) on our changing demographic,.

Its funny, Grahams stance on immigration doesn't really bother me. The only problem with immigration is our broken welfare/entitlement system, and that's not immigrants fault.

Let's see...amnesty was tried during the Reagan Administration and three million illegals were granted amnesty. After his presidency ended, Reagan admitted that it was a mistake.

The GOP thought that they might entice these three million people to vote for them. Guess what? They vote for the Dems.

The GOP is committing political suicide if they vote for amnesty. The illegals will be in the Dem column and will never vote for GOP unless it becames the mirror image of the Dems.

I don't support amnesty, and the deals being discussed don't either. In fact, what I've heard is more of a screw job than a path to citizenship. Fines, back taxes, and back of the line...going to end up taking 10 years and 200k to walk that path.

Question, how are illegal immigrants ruining us? They're just being opportunistic. If you have a problem you should address your fellow citizens b/c they're the real problem...all those liberal tradesman employers.

Let's not pretend that the 11 million (ish) votes are up for grabs or anything.  The Republicans will be the bad guys if they fight this, or if they go along with it.

And if it hadn't been us, it would've been Spain or someone else. The difference now is, the original immigrants to this land came here with a work ethic, not an entitlement mentality. Now we have more people riding in the wagon than are pulling the wagon. It cannot sustain itself, and idiots like cgreg think this is the way to go simply because they got brainwashed at some point in their life to believe America is bad.

You may not be saying otherwise, but I don't think new immigrants are usually the ones with an entitlement mentality.  I'm sure there are exceptions, but most immigrants -- legal and illegal -- come here for work, and they're usually willing to work very hard.  Now, if work isn't available, or if things break down for other reasons (divorce, injury, etc.), I'm sure immigrants are just as willing as anyone to take whatever help the government has made available.  But I would say the freeloader problem is much greater among those who have been here for a long time and have lost the drive that leads people to pack up and move to a new land.  And it's not a racial or ethnic issue.  It's not even a socioeconomic issue -- rich people freeload too.

lawtig, I'm not sure if you've ever worked in healthcare, but if you had, you'd have heard the stories of illegals coming here for the sole purpose of taking advantage of free and better healthcare, especially birthing children. Not saying they didn't work afterward, but it wasn't 'looking for work' that brought them here. There are any number of reasons they come, and it isn't always about looking for work.

Many came here simply looking for a better life, regardless of their intentions once they got here. Funny how that fact is lost on the America hating liberals. If their vision of America is reality, no one would want to come here. The influx of Hispanics and Russians in this area says otherwise.

Never worked in healthcare, but I'm sure you're right that some immigrants come here with no intention of working.  I just think they're the minority.  They get more attention, but they're outliers.

Just for the record, I'm not even remotely an open borders person.  I think we need to have strict rules and we need to do whatever it takes to enforce them.  I'm just not comfortable with the stereotype (not saying it's yours) of immigrants as freeloaders, when my experience is just the opposite.  I also sometimes try to put myself in the shoes of a poor Mexican farmer and think about the lengths I'd be willing to go to provide a better life for my family across the border.  Not saying that's the basis for good policymaking, but it does tend to change your perspective a bit.
