One other possible landing place for Morris

One other possible landing place for Morris

As of right now, it looks like we get to keep Morris at least one more year. However, what will happen if Chip Kelly goes to the NFL?? Any chance Oregon scoops Chad. Seems like it would be a good fit.

Re: One other possible landing place for Morris

I'll be stunned if he left for a job like Cincy. I know their last 3 coaches in a row have gone on to bigger and better things (D'Antonio, Kelly and now Jones), but if these conferences don't expand to 16 teams Cincy is on the outside looking in. Sure there's a good chance we see more expansion and Cincy will go to the Big Ten or come to the ACC, but until they do it would be like taking a Conference USA job.

I don't see anyway that the Big East can keep it's automatic BCS tie-in. Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers and no tie-in with ND. Sorry, but the Big East's automatic bubble will burst. No way Cincy, UConn, Boise State, Houston and South Florida can hold enough weight to carry that conference to an automatic bid in the future.

Yeah, Cincy was attractive back when there were other great coaches in the Big East. Ever since the mass exodus, most of the coaches to leave were busts. Randy Edsall comes to mind.

I think Chad wants to go somewhere that he can stay for a long time. He doesn't want a launching pad job. He wants a job.

Texas Tech open. He's gone.

Re: One other possible landing place for Morris

Wasn't worried at all about Cincy. Texas Tech could be a whole different story. I could see both Morris and even Kliff Kingsbury being interested in that job.

Andy why exactly does Tuberville leave for Cincy again? Whatever, but nice hire for the Bearcats.

Sheeh...he's not going. There are closer targets...coach at Sam Houston State...and Kingsbury was QB there, so....you would think he'd be targeted before Morris. Lubbock and Austin aren't similar.

Re: One other possible landing place for Morris

I agree, only problem with Kingsbury is there could be a lot of people that do not feel he's ready to be a head coach since he's in his early 30s and so new to the coaching profession. I didn't hear his name one time come up during all these coach searches. I know he was on the Houston staff for Sumlin, but I think this might be only his third or fourth year of coaching in his entire life. That could definitely work against him. It's one thing being able to call plays, it's another thing being able to run a whole team.

Doesn't look like many TT fans are sad to see him go. According to them he was making $2M a year and they aren't happy with his 12 wins in the past two years, plus his sideline incident this year as well.

That and Cincy's AD was with Tuberville at Auburn. Relationship thingie...plus, this will be his last job, most likely.

That's a good question - unless Tuberville doesn't like Lubbock (there isn't much to like in the Texas Panhandle, that is unless you own a bunch of acreage with oil and gas leases.....

But in Tommy's case going from the Big 12 to Big East doesn't make a lot of sense, unless he could feel a noose tightening around his neck for, say, maybe slapping an assistant....

Before everyone writes Chad off - that administration is the same one that fired Mike Leach to keep from paying him a big bonus.  Chad has to know that.

I think he'd be taking a pay cut to go to TT, and he'd be given zero budget money for assistants, and asked to beat the big boys regularly. The job BLOWS.

Re: One other possible landing place for Morris

There's nothing wrong with that job. Yes, the fans have high expectations after what Leach did there, but that doesn't mean your job is in jeopardy if you don't win big. There's a big difference compared to what fans expect and what the administration expects.

Tuberville was making $2M and year and in three seasons never had a winning record in conference play. Not only did he not have a winning record he actually went 9-17 in conference play, that's awful, and the Red Raiders still weren't looking to get rid of him. There's a lot of schools that wouldn't be that patient with someone that has a 35 percent conference winning percentage in three years.

Plus if someone did start winning 9 and 10 games again like Leach did, with Mack Brown's age, that coach could get a nice look from Texas when that time comes.

That thought DID cross my mind...which is why Kingsbury or the Sam Houston coach are, hopefully, way up on the list. Kingsbury was QB there, so...maybe some pull.

Texas Tech is a job that actually concerns me about Morris. Baylor was another one, but their HC stayed.

I'd be shocked if he took that job. It sounded like he would only leave for an established place that had everything in place to be a winner.

People really need to stop talking about Morris coaching at TX.

TX Tech won't pay him **** but the advantage of coaching at TT is you can get anyone into school.   TT- home of the juco.   Pretty sure there is no TB, Nuk, Sammy or Ellington on campus.

Sounds like some people strongly tnink that he would take it if true.

IOP what's your gut?

Re: One other possible landing place for Morris

The only thing TT has going in its favor is that their new starting QB played for Morris in HS.

Is that enough for Morris to risk his career on? Not in my opinion. He'd be better off waiting for a great job to open up.
